Solar Storm Alerts! G1-class geomagnetic storms Today, CME to pass close to Earth: NASA Warning

Solar Storm Warning: There is growing concern over the possibility of minor G1-class geomagnetic storms occurring today on July 13 due to a close encounter with a passing CME (coronal mass ejection), as per a recent report by SpaceWeather.com.

While NASA predicts a glancing blow, the models from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) suggest a miss, creating a discrepancy that raises questions about the potential severity of the situation.

The impending solar storm, if it materialises, could disturb Earth's magnetic field, leading to the mesmerising spectacle of high latitude auroras. However, the exact impact remains uncertain, leaving experts and netizens alike on edge.

A G1-class geomagnetic storm, classified as minor, has the potential to ignite auroras in higher latitudes. It also poses a threat to smaller satellites orbiting closer to Earth, as the increased electromagnetic radiation heats up the surrounding air and creates drag.

Additionally, wireless frequencies used for critical services such as GPS navigation and emergency communications could experience disruption.

To monitor solar storms and gain insights into the Sun's behaviour, NOAA relies on its DSCOVR satellite, which has been operational since 2016.

Data collected by the satellite is meticulously analysed at the Space Weather Prediction Center, where parameters such as temperature, speed, density, degree of orientation, and frequency of solar particles are taken into account.

While the mismatch between NASA and NOAA models raises uncertainty, it is important to stay informed about the potential consequences of this solar storm.

As the anticipated date approaches, experts recommend remaining cautious and prepared for any possible impact, even though the severity of the storm remains unclear.

As the scientific community continues to monitor the situation closely, updates regarding the solar storm's development and the potential impact on Earth will be crucial in understanding the true extent of this celestial phenomenon.
