The arms were seized from a Kashmiri doctor's rented accommodation in the neighbouring city.
As it happened, a high-intensity blast ripped through a car parked near the Red Fort Monday evening, leaving multiple vehicles in flames and window panes in smithereens. Several people are feared injured, officials said.
Police have enhanced surveillance at all border points connecting Delhi with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Security has been stepped up in sensitive zones such as railway stations, and metro premises. An officer said all district units, including the Special Cell and Crime Branch, have been put on alert, and teams have been directed to conduct random checks of vehicles and lodges near the Delhi-Haryana border.
"Extra pickets have been deployed, especially at Singhu, Tikri, and Badarpur borders, while patrols have been intensified," the officer said.
The Haryana Police, in coordination with their Jammu and Kashmir counterparts, arrested Dr Muzammil from Faridabad's Dhauj area, and recovered explosive materials, weapons, and timers from his rented house. Dr Muzammil, a teacher at Al Falah University, was reportedly wanted in a case related to terror outfit, Jaish-e-Mohammed, in Srinagar.
The Delhi Police said it is maintaining close coordination with intelligence agencies and neighbouring state police to monitor any potential spillover or linked activities in the National Capital Region.

Police raised a high alert across the city, while seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the area was cordoned off.
The explosion, which occurred near Red Fort Metro Station Gate No. 1, was so strong that it damaged vehicles parked meters away and was heard in nearby buildings.
&ldquo;The blast occurred in a car parked near Red Fort metro station gate number 1. The intensity was quite high. Injuries are feared,&rdquo; said a senior Delhi Fire Service official. Footage from the site showed flames rising from the burning vehicles, while panic gripped the area as several cars were damaged.
An eyewitness recounted, &ldquo;I was at the gurdwara when I heard a strong sound. We couldn&rsquo;t make out what it was; it was that loud. A number of vehicles nearby were completely damaged.&rdquo;
Forensic teams are examining the scene, and police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the blast. (With PTI inputs)

Eight people, including three doctors, were arrested as police uncovered a &ldquo;white-collar&rdquo; terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind across Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

Eight people, including three doctors, were arrested and 2,900 kg of explosives seized with the uncovering of a &ldquo;white collar&rdquo; terror module involving the Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind and spanning Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Monday.
Among those arrested following a 15-day operation were Kashmir's Dr Muzammil Ganaie in Faridabad and Lucknow&rsquo;s Dr Shaheen, who was brought by air to Srinagar for custodial interrogation, officials said. An AK-47 rifle was found in her car.
The joint operation by the police forces of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana as well as central agencies has achieved a major breakthrough, officials said. They did not divulge details of exactly when the arrests took place.
With this, the police have successfully thwarted the destructive designs of both the terror groups, the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), an offshoot of the ISIS in India.
The 2,900 kg of explosive material includes ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate and sulphur. Of this, 360 kg of inflammable material suspected to be ammonium nitrate and some arms and ammunition were recovered from Ganaie&rsquo;s rented accommodation in Faridabad, said a statement from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The recoveries from various places include a Chinese Star pistol with ammunition, a Beretta pistol with ammunition, an AK-56 rifle with ammunition, an AK Krinkov rifle with ammunition as well as explosives, chemicals, reagents, inflammable material, electronic circuits, batteries, wires, remote control, timers and metal sheets, it said.
Ganaie, a teacher at the Al Falah University in the Haryana town abutting New Delhi, was arrested after the Jammu and Kashmir Police named him as a wanted person in a case involving putting up posters supporting the Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar.
Of the eight arrested, seven are from Kashmir &mdash; Arif Nisar Dar alias Sahil, Yasir-ul-Ashraf, and Maqsood Ahmad Dar alias Shahid from Nowgam in Srinagar; Maulvi Irfan Ahmad from Shopian; Zameer Ahmad Ahanger alias Mutlasha from the Wakura area of Ganderbal; Dr Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie alias Musaib from Koil area of Pulwama; and Dr Adeel from Wanpora area of Kulgam. Dr Shaheen is based in Lucknow.
Several Pakistani numbers were found on the phones of Ganaie and Adeel, officials said. They could be the possible handlers of the network.
On October 19, multiple JeM posters were found pasted at different locations in Bunpora Nowgam area of the city here, threatening and intimidating police and security forces. That was the starting point of the investigation, leading to the unravelling of the inter-state terror network.
"The investigation revealed a white collar terror ecosystem, involving radicalised professionals and students in contact with foreign handlers, operating from Pakistan and other countries," said a statement from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
It said the group has been using encrypted channels for indoctrination, coordination, fund movement and logistics. "Funds were raised through professional and academic networks, under the guise of social/charitable causes. The accused were found involved in identifying persons, to radicalise, initiate and recruit them to terrorist ranks, besides raising funds, arranging logistics, procurement of arms/ammunition and material for preparing IEDs," it said.
According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the sophisticated terror module allegedly used professional and academic networks as a front, collecting funds under the false pretense of supporting social and charitable causes. The accused were allegedly involved in a wide range of illegal activities, including the crucial process of identifying, radicalising, and recruiting new members for terrorist organisations. Their role also involved managing logistics, collecting funds, and securing weapons and materials for IEDs, it said.
"In a major counter-terrorism success, Jammu and Kashmir Police has busted an inter-state and transnational terror module, linked with proscribed terrorist organisations JeM and AGuH. The operation has led to the arrest of key operatives and recovery of a massive cache of arms, ammunition and explosives, during coordinated searches in J-K and other states," a police spokesperson said in Srinagar.
Briefing reporters in Faridabad earlier in the day, Commissioner of Police Satender Kumar Gupta said raids were conducted at Ganaie&rsquo;s premises on Sunday. "I want to clarify it is not RDX," he said.
Besides, other material that can be used in terror activities was also seized from his room. This included 20 timers, four timers with batteries, 5 kg of heavy metal, a walkie-talkie set, batteries, an assault rifle with three magazines and 83 live rounds, one pistol with eight live rounds, two empty cartridges and two additional magazines.
Gupta refused to give any more details. "There are many other operational details and since the operation is ongoing, these cannot be shared at the moment," he said. Asked where the accused were intending to carry out the terror act, Gupta said, "The investigations are on."
"Keeping in view national security, there are many details about this module and it is not appropriate to share these at the moment," he said.
According to police in Srinagar, there could be more arrests in the case. The role of a few more individuals has surfaced who will be traced and apprehended.
During the ongoing investigation, searches were conducted at multiple locations by J-K Police in Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal and Shopian districts. J-K Police also conducted searches at Faridabad, in tandem with Haryana Police, and at Saharanpur, with the UP Police, he added.
Financial investigation, regarding the flow of funds, is on and all linkages are being traced and addressed expeditiously, the police statement said.

The high-octane campaign for the second and final phase of the Bihar assembly elections concluded on Monday, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi among leaders delivering last-day rallies and appeals.
Voting for 122 assembly seats is scheduled for Tuesday, November 11; counting for all 243 seats (including the 121 that voted in Phase-1 on November 6) will be held on November 14.
Phase-1 recorded what officials called the &ldquo;highest ever&rdquo; turnout for a Bihar election. While some reports put first-phase turnout at over 65%, the Election Commission of India put the official figure at 64.66%.
Below is a constituency-by-constituency look at the seats to watch in Phase-2, the candidates in the fray and the local dynamics that could decide results.
Chakai (Kaimur) &mdash; Sumit Kumar Singh (JD(U))

With campaigning complete and troops, police and auxiliary personnel in position, Bihar moves into the final stage of balloting. Voting will be held at 45,399 polling stations, including 40,073 in rural areas, across 122 assembly seats in the second and final round of polling.
&ldquo;More than 4 lakh security personnel have been deployed in Bihar for poll duties to ensure free and fair elections," an Election Commission official said on Monday.
Around 500 companies (around 50,000) of the Central Armed Police Force had been engaged in pre-election duties in Bihar, and subsequently, 500 more companies of CAPF arrived in the state, he said.
"Besides, an additional 500 companies arrived for poll duties in the third week of October. More than 60,000 personnel of the Bihar Police have already been engaged in the election duty," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
Around 2,000 personnel of reserve battalions from other states, 30,000 personnel of the Bihar Special Armed Police, more than 20,000 home guards, around 19,000 newly recruited constables (who are undergoing training), and nearly 1.5 lakh &lsquo;chowkidars&rsquo; (rural police) have also been engaged in the poll duty for both phases, he said.
When asked about the number of sensitive polling centres in the second phase of voting, the officer said, &ldquo;From a security point of view, all booths are equally important."
Bihar recorded the "highest ever" voter turnout of over 65 per cent in the first phase of polling across 121 assembly constituencies.

Officials said approximately 360 kilograms of inflammable material, believed to be ammonium nitrate, was seized during the operation.
Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar, speaking at a press conference, said a doctor named Muzammil was arrested in connection with the case.
&ldquo;It is an ongoing joint operation between Haryana police and J&amp;K police. An accused, Dr Muzammil, was nabbed. 360 kg of inflammable material was recovered yesterday, which is possibly ammonium nitrate. It is not RDX,&rdquo; he clarified.
Kumar added that Muzammil was associated with Al-Falah University, where he served as a faculty member.
Along with the explosive material, police recovered a range of weapons and related equipment, including:
- One assault rifle with three magazines and 83 live rounds
- One pistol with eight live rounds
- Two empty cartridges and two additional magazines
- Eight large suitcases and four small suitcases
- A bucket containing the 360 kg of explosive material
Additional contraband included 20 timers with batteries, 24 remotes, approximately 5 kg of heavy metal, walkie-talkie sets, electric wiring, batteries, and other materials potentially linked to IED-making.
Clarifying details about the weapons, Kumar said, &ldquo;It is not RDX. It is not an AK-47, it is an assault rifle. It is like an AK-47 but slightly smaller, but it is not an AK-47.&rdquo;
The police operation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing investigations into the source and intended use of the materials.

Authorities detained several individuals on Sunday afternoon after a group assembled near India Gate to demand stronger government measures against air pollution.
The participants, calling the situation an &ldquo;air emergency,&rdquo; urged immediate policy action. Some women attended the protest with their children, carrying nebulisers and medical prescriptions to highlight the health impact of pollution.
Videos and posts on social media showed police moving people into buses. A post on X stated, &ldquo;India Gate clean-air protest. We are being taken away, shoved into a bus.&rdquo; A few participants alleged they were manhandled and that some children were also detained. Police, however, rejected these claims.
DCP (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahla said the protesters were repeatedly asked to relocate to Jantar Mantar, the designated site for demonstrations.
&ldquo;When they did not comply and continued blocking Man Singh Road, we intervened and detained them before reopening the road for the public,&rdquo; he said, adding that only those obstructing traffic were held and later released.
In a statement, the group sought &ldquo;urgent, accountable and transparent action&rdquo; from the Delhi government, calling for an independent air regulator, public access to real-time air quality data, clear health advisories during high-pollution days, and accountability in the use of funds allocated to combat pollution.
They described clean air as a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Constitution.
Environmental activist Bhavreen Kandhari, who was part of the gathering, said, &ldquo;It is unfortunate that about a hundred citizens were detained. Ironically, many woman police personnel identified with the protesters as they, too, struggle to breathe the same toxic air. However, we saw many people without masks. That&rsquo;s the real tragedy.&rdquo;
Delhi&rsquo;s Air Quality Worsens
On Monday morning, Delhi woke up to a thick layer of smog as temperatures dropped to 11.6&deg;C and air quality remained in the &ldquo;very poor&rdquo; range. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at 6:05 am showed an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 346.
Several monitoring stations recorded alarming levels &mdash; Bawana (412), Wazirpur (397), Jahangirpuri (394), and Nehru Nagar (386), according to CPCB&rsquo;s Sameer app. This marked the fourth consecutive day of deteriorating air quality, edging closer to the &ldquo;severe&rdquo; category.

The chief minister sought details of the incident from Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna, an official statement issued here said.
Krishna issued a series of instructions to district police chiefs, asking them to stay on the ground and personally supervise security at sensitive and crowded areas. Quick Response Teams (QRT), Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), bomb disposal squads, and dog squads have been kept on standby, while foot patrol has been intensified, he said.
Police have been told to ensure strict checking of vehicles and keep a vigilant eye at metro stations, bus stands, railway stations, malls, and cinemas without causing inconvenience to the public, the DGP said in his directive. Real-time analysis of CCTV feeds and active engagement of intelligence and local information networks have been ordered to ensure prompt reporting of any suspicious persons or activities.
In Ayodhya, Inspector General Praveen Kumar took to street checking vehicles. In Varanasi too, police teams patrolled crowded areas, including Kashi Vishwanath temple, the railway station, and Sankat Mochan temple, officials said.
The police in Lucknow were seen in alert mode with senior officers on the ground. Ghaziabad Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Priyadarshi told PTI that security had been beefed up at railway stations, bus stands, metro stations, and malls.
Police carried out searches of people's luggage, and vehicles parked near Muradnagar ordnance factory, Central Electronics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, Hindan airport, and airforce station in Trans Hindan area, he said.

Police have arrested a Kashmiri doctor here and seized 2,900 kg of explosives and a huge cache of arms and ammunition, officials said on Monday.
Muzammil Ganaie alias Musaib, a native of Koil in J-K&rsquo;s Pulwama working as a doctor at the Al Falah University that also houses a hospital on its campus, was arrested in a joint operation by Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir Police, they said.
The Al Falah University at Dhouj in Haryana&rsquo;s Faridabad district, around 45 km from Delhi, is a private institute recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
In total, eight people, including three doctors, were arrested and 2,900 kg of explosives seized with the uncovering of a white collar terror module involving the Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind and spanning Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, officials said.
Muzammil was arrested on October 30 and was later produced in a court in Faridabad before being taken to Jammu and Kashmir on a three-day transit remand.
On Monday, Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta addressed a press conference and shared details about the doctor's arrest.
Later in the evening, a statement issued by police said, &ldquo;In a joint operation by Faridabad Police and Jammu and Kashmir Police, approximately 2,900 kilograms of inflammable/explosive material was recovered."
Muzammil was arrested after the J-K Police named him as a wanted person in a case involving putting up posters supporting the Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar.
During the investigation, the role of Muzammil was found to be suspicious, following which a team from the Nowgam police station in Kashmir arrested Muzammil with the assistance of the Faridabad Crime Branch, the statement said.
Police said that on Sunday, 358 kg of explosive material suspected to be ammonium nitrate, a Krinkov assault rifle with three magazines, a pistol with 2 cartridges, 91 live rounds and two magazines were recovered from the room of a house in Dhauj, located just 500 metres from the Al Falah University.
The accused doctor rented the room for Rs 1,200 a month one-and-a-half months ago.
Police also seized 20 timers, 4 batteries, 24 remote controls, electrical circuits, batteries, wires, and a metal seat from the room.
On Monday, police recovered 2,550 kg of ammonium nitrate from a room at Fatehpur Taga village, 4 km from Dhauj. The accused doctor had taken both the premises on rent.
Police have also taken a cleric named Ishtaq, who had rented the rooms to Muzammil, into custody for questioning.
&ldquo;Police have taken away my husband, who has been the imam of the local mosque for the past 20 years. The doctors, students and staff of Al Falah University visited the mosque daily to offer namaaz, including Muzzamil,&rdquo; Ishtaq&rsquo;s wife said.
Muzzamil had been working with Al Falah University for the past three-and-a-half years and lived on the varsity premises.
Asked where the accused intended to carry out the terror act, Commissioner Gupta said, "Investigations are underway. In view of national security, it won&rsquo;t be appropriate to share the details at this moment.&rdquo;
Commenting on the police action, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini told mediapersons on the sidelines of an event in Gurugram, "Investigations are going on. Anyone found involved will not be spared."
Speaking to reporters in Ambala, Haryana minister Anil Vij said, &ldquo;Police are probing from where the explosive material was procured, what was the target, who all were involved, etc. No guilty person will be spared.&rdquo;

"While I was standing and talking to someone, a body part... a hand, with the man's shirt still on it, fell right behind me," Amit Mudgal (36) told PTI.
Recalling the terrifying moments following the explosion, he said, "About 20 minutes ago, the situation was unbelievable. There was a huge blast, and within seconds, the sky was covered in red smoke,&rdquo; he said. "Everyone was screaming and running for cover," Mudgal recalled.
He said the impact was so severe that human remains were scattered across the street. &ldquo;As I moved towards the fire, I helped several people get into ambulances.&rdquo;
An injured eyewitness, who had a wound on his forehead, said the explosion appeared to have originated from a car parked nearby. &ldquo;I am an auto rickshaw driver. There was a car in front of my auto, most probably a Maruti Swift. I don&rsquo;t know how it happened, but something in that car suddenly blasted,&rdquo; he said.

"I rushed here and saw people screaming, some lying motionless. There was an autorickshaw driver injured badly; he was taken to hospital."
Another witness, Bhupinder Singh, who was driving a loading vehicle, said the explosion occurred just as the traffic signal turned green. &ldquo;We were moving slowly when the blast happened. The window glass shattered, and we ran towards the market. It was very crowded, nobody knew what was happening,&rdquo; he said.
Recalling the gut-wrenching scenes, Singh said, "We saw the body parts of two or three men blown to pieces.&rdquo;
Irfan, another eyewitness, said the scene was horrific. "We saw severed hands, fingers, and even the steering wheel of a car blown off. There were handcart pullers and taxi drivers caught in the blast, some of them didn't survive," he said.
Videos circulating on social media showed panicked locals shouting "Bomb phat gaya!" (A bomb has exploded!) and "Kata hua haath hai!" (There's a severed hand!) as flames rose from the burning vehicles.
According to officials, the explosion occurred in a car parked near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort metro station. &ldquo;The intensity was quite high. Injuries are feared,&rdquo; said a senior Delhi Fire Service officer.
Ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot with police cordoning off the area, the Delhi Fire Services said. The fire, officials said, was brought under control by 7.29 pm.

"The parking lots are full of illegal hawkers' goods being used as storehouses. Pedestrian corridors are blocked by big stalls, leaving little room for movement or escape during emergencies. We have requested the NDMC enforcement wing and Delhi Police to take immediate action," Atul Bhargav of the NDTA said.

"There was a blast around 6.52 pm in a slow moving vehicle near Red Fort. There were passengers inside the vehicle," Golcha said, adding other vehicles were damaged in the incident.
Earlier, officials said that the explosion happened inside a parked car.
The police commissioner said all agencies, including Delhi Police, forensic team, NIA, NSG, are taking stock of the situation.
"Some deaths happened, few people got injured. The situation is being regularly monitored. The home minister is being regularly briefed," he said.

Videos shared by the Chandni Chowk Traders&rsquo; Association captured the aftermath of the blast, showing charred vehicles and severe damage. A body could be seen lying on a vehicle, while another video showed a mangled body on the road. Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, with body parts scattered near the blast site.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the Delhi Police Commissioner, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, and the Union Home Secretary to take stock of the situation. He also directed the chiefs of the National Security Guard (NSG), the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the Directorate of Forensic Sciences to dispatch expert teams to assist in the probe and collect evidence.
Sources said Shah was briefed on the incident by the top officers. Teams from the NSG, including explosive experts, and the NIA, comprising investigators experienced in terror-related cases, have reached the site. Forensic teams have also joined the investigation.

Addressing a press conference here, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and her Punjab counterpart, Bhagwant Mann, said they have written to the EC demanding "fair grounds" to the AAP in the February 5 Delhi Assembly polls and the restoration of Kejriwal's security cover given by the Punjab Police, along with an audit of "life-threatening" attacks on him.
They alleged that the Delhi Police, which comes under the Centre, has turned a blind eye on the alleged attacks on Kejriwal in accordance with Union Home Minister Amit Shah's order.
"There are two players involved in this conspiracy to kill Kejriwalji -- the BJP and the Delhi Police. They are both conspiring to end Kejriwal's life. Attacks have been attempted on him one after the other. In October (last year), an attack was made on Kejriwal. Upon investigation by us, it was found that the attackers were BJP workers, but police took no action," Atishi alleged.
"We have written to the EC demanding that Kejriwal's security be restored. We do not trust the Delhi Police as it is under Amit Shah's control," she added.
The AAP leaders alleged that resorting to "dirty politics" ahead of the Delhi polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has conspired to get Kejriwal's security removed.

Atishi requested the transfer of the police officers involved, citing their attempts to pressure AAP volunteers into making false statements.
In her letter, Atishi explained that she had filed complaints regarding the intimidation on January 21 and 22. She attached both complaints to her letter, highlighting that on January 21, she received a notice under Section 94 BNSS from the SHO of Govindpuri concerning her complaint.&nbsp;

However, instead of investigating, she claims that police officers began pressuring AAP volunteers to retract their statements.

These officers allegedly met with volunteers such as Vijeta, Rekha Bassi, and Deepa Deol, dictated false statements to them, and then pressured them to sign," the letter said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that her volunteers were willing to give statements in the presence of their legal representatives, but they were being forced to sign incomplete and false documents.&nbsp;
When the volunteers refused, the police allegedly tore up their objections. Atishi expressed concerns over the collusion of the local police officers and called for their immediate transfer, specifically requesting that SHO Dharamveer, Inspector Sushil Sharma, and Constable Jai Bhagwan be reassigned out of the area.
Earlier this week, Atishi had also called for the deployment of paramilitary forces in Kalkaji to ensure the safety of voters and party workers as the Delhi Assembly elections draw near. The elections are set for February 5, with the vote counting scheduled for February 8, amid escalating tensions between the AAP and BJP.

Explaining the rationale behind the move, Singh remarked that the BJP would not voluntarily talk about their achievements, so AAP decided to showcase it for them.&nbsp;
Taking a swipe at the BJP-led Central government, Singh stated that the book contained everything about the unfulfilled promises made by BJP, including commitments on providing permanent housing, doubling minimum support prices (MSPs) for farmers, strengthening the rupee, and ensuring border security.
&ldquo;Modi ji had made many promises after becoming the Prime Minister. He had said that by 15th August 2022, everyone will get a permanent house, farmers will get MSP, the rupee will be strengthened, the border will be protected... Regarding Delhi, he had said that permanent registry will be given to those living in slums. The BJP people could not tell what achievements have been made in those promises, we are releasing those achievements,&rdquo; Singh said.
He further added, &ldquo;We are releasing a book to tell what achievements the BJP has made as they are not ready to tell about it... Everything is written in this book, whether it&rsquo;s about getting Rs 15 lakhs in your account, permanent houses, lowering petrol prices to Rs 40, increasing the MSPs for farmers...&rdquo;
Sanjay Singh also criticized BJP leader Anurag Thakur, accusing him of lacking the moral authority to lecture on patriotism. He alleged that BJP leaders had historically supported divisive forces and made questionable decisions.&nbsp;

Amritpal Singh, the Member of Parliament (MP) representing Khadoor Sahib in Punjab, who is currently imprisoned in Dibrugarh jail in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA), has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court with a petition.&nbsp;
He is requesting permission to attend the ongoing Parliament session and participate in the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.
In his petition, Singh has argued that his extended absence is preventing the voice of his 19 lakh constituents from being heard in Parliament. He has also claimed that his detention is politically motivated, designed to stifle his growing popularity.&nbsp;
Singh's detention order was first issued in March 2023 by the Deputy Magistrate of Amritsar and has since been extended on multiple occasions. A new detention order for March 2024 was issued citing social media activity and alleged contraband found in the jail as justifications. Singh, however, has labelled these reasons as weak and unconstitutional.

Gandhi, addressing an election rally in Banka, also asserted that the Congress produced evidence of &ldquo;vote chori&rdquo; (vote theft) in the Haryana polls, and the Election Commission cannot deny the charges.
The Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha had on Wednesday alleged that the Haryana assembly polls last year were "stolen", citing electoral list data to claim that 25 lakh entries were fake and the Election Commission colluded with the BJP to ensure the party's victory.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I came to know yesterday that BJP leaders who cast votes in Delhi, also voted in the first phase of Bihar polls (on Thursday),&rdquo; the former Congress president said.

At another poll rally in Bhagalpur, the Rae Bareli MP alleged that farmers, labourers and weavers of Bihar neither get loans from banks, nor is their debt waived. The BJP-led government, however, always waives loans of certain corporates, Gandhi claimed. Gandhi also asserted that TV channels get paid by the BJP to show the Prime Minister&rsquo;s face 24 hours.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asserted that the record turnout in first phase of Bihar assembly polls was proof that people have reposed their trust in the "track record of Narendra and Nitish".
Modi made the prediction of the victory of the NDA, led in Bihar by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) president, at a rally in Aurangabad district of the poll-bound state, where he also lauded the Election Commission for successfully conducting elections across 121 constituencies where voting was held.
He cited the examples of construction of Ram temple, abrogation of Article 370 and Operation Sindoor to assert "I do what I promise".
"Yesterday, the voters of Bihar broke all records. Never before in the history of the state has there been such a high poll percentage. Much of the credit goes to mothers and sisters who turned up in large numbers to raise the turnout to nearly 65 per cent. It is evident that they all have trust in the track record of Narendra-Nitish," said Modi.
The people have voted to ensure that an NDA government, which would guarantee good governance, remains in place in Bihar, the PM said.
"They have not been taken in by the false promises of RJD-helmed opposition. Even the Congress, despite being an ally, is not trusting the RJD's promises made in their manifesto," claimed Modi.
The people do not want a return of the 'jungle raj' during which Naxal insurgents ruled the roost and several lives were claimed in violence and bomb explosions that used to take place during elections, he asserted.
Hinting at a poll campaign of the RJD, which has been a matter of controversy, Modi said, "The jungle raj wallahs have taught even children to speak of things like katta (unlicensed country-made handgun) and dunaali (double barrelled gun)".
"The jungle raj wallahs stand for everything that comes in the way of investments and employment generation. They must have tried to create mischief this time as well. But I commend the Election Commission for conducting orderly polls," said Modi.
The Prime Minister alleged that Nitish Kumar, the state's longest serving Chief Minister, whom he credited with having "brought jungle raj to an end", faced non-cooperation from the Centre "in the first nine years of his tenure", when Congress-led UPA was in power.
"People have faith in the track record of Modi and Nitish because I do what I promise. Today a Ram temple is in place at Ayodhya, which has undone 500 years of injustice. Article 370 has been scrapped. And, I had promised on Bihar's soil that perpetrators of Pahalgam terror attack will be punished. You all know what happened in Operation Sindoor," said Modi.
Speaking in an area of Bihar from where a large number of people are known to be in the armed forces, the Prime Minister also spoke of the one rank one pension scheme which has led to Rs one lakh crore being transferred into accounts of ex-servicemen.
"The RJD people might not even know how many zeros are in one lakh crore," chuckled Modi, adding: "They cannot think of providing jobs to the people. They made people do away with their land while promising jobs. Now they are out on bail", said the PM.
The allusion was to land for jobs scam, pertaining to tenure of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad as Railway Minister in the UPA 1 government. Prasad and a number of his family members, including son and heir apparent Tejashwi Yadav, the INDIA bloc's Chief Ministerial candidate, are named in the case.
"Congress and RJD know nothing except a politics of insults. They heaped scorn on Chhathi Maiya by calling it a drama. They had spoken ill of Maha Kumbh. On November 11, when the second phase of polls is scheduled, you must punish them", said Modi.
The allusion was to Lalu Prasad's remarks about the 12 yearly mega congregation held at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh several months ago and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's charge that Modi had enacted a "drama" by declaring that he would take a dip in Yamuna on Chhath but backtracked when the news got leaked that a puddle had been formed close to the river banks with "clean, piped water".

The cause of the fire is reported to be a short circuit in an electric transformer installed on the ground floor of the five-storey hostel building.

A massive fire broke out on Sunday morning in a boys' hostel building injuring eight students here with preliminary reports suggesting that the short circuit led to the blaze, police said.
The incident happened at around 6.15 am in Landmark City under Kunhari police station, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kota City Amrita Duhan said.
According to an initial investigation, a short circuit in an electric transformer installed on the ground floor of the five-storey hostel building led to the fire, the police said. The forensic team, however, is trying to ascertain the exact reason for the incident.
Rakesh Vyas, a fire officer at Kota Municipal Corporation, said the hostel building was not equipped with fire safety measures and did not have a fire NOC. He added that it was alarming that the transformer was installed inside the hostel building.
The police said the six injured students, including one who sustained severe burns, are receiving primary medical treatment at Maharao Bheem Singh (MBS) Hospital here.
One student, who suffered a fracture in his leg after he along with 14 others jumped from the building's first floor to escape the fire, is being treated at a private hospital, they added.
Bhavishya, a NEET aspirant from Bihar's Chindwara who lived in the building, was also injured in the incident. He said he was woken up by a loud noise at around 6.15 am and when he came out of his room, he found thick smoke everywhere.
He said the students decided to jump from the first floor as the staircase was filled with smoke and there was no other way out of the building.
The building had 75 rooms of which 61 were occupied, SP Duhan said.
She added that fire tenders rushed to the spot in time and doused the fire before it could spread to the upper floors.
All the students have been rescued from the building, circle inspector at Kunhari police station Arvind Bhardwaj said.
The parents of the students are being contacted to assure them that their wards are safe, he added.
Bhardwaj said that as most students couldn't carry their mobile phones while they were being rescued, a helpdesk is also being set up for the students and their parents.
The matter is being investigated, the CI said.&nbsp;

The CBI has created a dedicated e-mail ID -- sandeshkhali@cbi.gov.in -- on which victims of land grab in Sandeshkhali, a village in West Bengal, can get their complaints lodged, officials said on Thursday.
The agency has created the e-mail ID in compliance with the orders of the Calcutta High Court passed on Wednesday.
"The District Magistrate, North 24 Parganas has also been requested to give adequate publicity of the said e-mail ID in the locality and also issue a public notice in the vernacular dailies having a wide circulation in the areas as per the Hon'ble High Court's order," a CBI spokesperson said in a statement.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will start registering cases on the basis of the complaints received by it, sources said.
The high court on Wednesday ordered a court-monitored CBI probe into allegations of crimes against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, saying an "impartial inquiry" is required in the interest of justice and fair play.
The court also directed the CBI to file a comprehensive report on the alleged illegal conversion of agricultural land into water bodies for pisciculture, after conducting a thorough inspection of the revenue records and a physical inspection of the land alleged to have been converted.
The court asked the central agency to submit a comprehensive report to it on the next date of hearing on May 2.
The state government was directed to provide the required support to the CBI.
The agency is already probing three cases related to attacks on Enforcement Directorate officials at Sandeshkhali allegedly by a mob instigated by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh.

West Bengal Police on Tuesday issued summons to the NIA officer who was injured in the alleged attack during the central probe agency's raid in Purba Medinipur district last week, to appear before the investigating officer of the Bhupatinagar police station on April 11, an official said.
The Bhupatinagar police station investigating officer has also asked the NIA to bring the vehicle which was damaged allegedly during the attack on Saturday, stating that they want to conduct a forensic test of it, he said.
The police officer has also summoned three villagers from Bhupatinagar for questioning in connection to the attack on NIA officers when they went to arrest the two main conspirators in connection with a blast that took place in 2022 at Bhupatinagar in Purba Medinipur district in which three persons were killed.
"The NIA officer has been asked to appear before our officer on April 11. We have also asked them to send the vehicle which was damaged during the attack. We plan to conduct a forensic test on it," he told PTI.
The villagers have been asked to appear in two to three days, the officer said.
A team of the NIA was allegedly attacked by a mob on Saturday when it went to arrest two main suspects in the 2022 blast case in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district, sparking a political slugfest with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accusing the investigators of assaulting villagers.
One NIA officer was injured and a vehicle was damaged in the attack on Saturday.
The attack on the NIA team happened around three months after villagers and locals assaulted a team of Enforcement Department (ED) officers when they went to raid the residence of, now arrested TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh on January 5 in connection with the alleged ration scam.

She knows the accused. We took her to the hospital and rushed towards the boy&rsquo;s house and handed him over to the police,&rdquo; the father said in the FIR.&nbsp;
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sukanya Sharma told The Indian Express that a case has been registered. &nbsp; &nbsp; &ldquo;The girl&rsquo;s condition is not stable. The accused is at the police station, and he will be produced before the juvenile court. The medical examination of the victim has confirmed rape. The boy has been booked under various sections including under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He will be sent to a juvenile home after being produced in court,&rdquo; Sharma said.&nbsp; Police have also deployed adequate force in the area, as the accused and victim belonged to different communities. &nbsp;
