Uttar Pradesh government on Monday launched Electricity Bill Relief Scheme 2025-26, which offers interest waivers on pending electricity bills and rebates on the principal amount.
State Energy Minister A K Sharma inaugurated the scheme from Soraon sub-station in Prayagraj. He also inaugurated mega camps at Kunda sub-station in Pratapgarh and Unchahar sub-station in Raebareli district, according to an official statement.
Speaking after inaugurating the scheme, Sharma said it will provide financial relief to consumers and build their trust in the electricity department.
The minister, who distributed certificates to the first five registered consumers, said, "Today marks a new era of hope for consumers burdened with pending bills for years.&nbsp;
In the first phase of the scheme, registered consumers will receive a 100 per cent interest waiver and an additional 25 per cent rebate on the principal amount, significantly reducing their liabilities."
He said the registration process has been made simple and accessible. Consumers can register through the department's website www.uppcl.org, at the concerned division or sub-division office, Jan Seva Kendra, or any departmental cash counter.
The electricity department is conducting an extensive public awareness campaign to ensure that more people benefit from the scheme, he said.
The scheme will run in three phases: first phase from December 1-31, 2025; second phase from January 1-31, 2026, and the third phase from February 1-28, 2026.
In the first phase, 100 per cent interest waiver will be provided, along with 25 per cent rebate on the principal amount. In the second phase, the rebate on the principal amount will be 15 per cent, and in the third phase, it would be 10 per cent.
This one-time settlement facility is especially useful for consumers whose bills have become excessively high due to interest and surcharges, the statement said.
Sharma added that keeping consumers' financial conditions in mind, the government has provided an option of monthly installments -- of Rs 500 and Rs 750 -- so that they do not feel burdened.
The energy minister also instructed officials to hold camps to inform consumers about the scheme, ensure a smooth and simplified registration process, and make sure that no eligible individual is deprived of the benefits.
Sharma said that due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resolve of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas" and the "consistent consumer-friendly policies of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath", the electricity rates in Uttar Pradesh have not increased in the last six years.
Stating that the new relief scheme will significantly reduce the financial burden on consumers, he appealed to all defaulters not to miss the opportunity and take advantage of the scheme.
MLAs Guru Prasad Maurya, Deepak Patel, and Manoj Pandey, MLC Surendra Chaudhary, Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam MD Shambhu Kumar, Madhyanchal MD Ria Kejriwal, other local public representatives, electrical engineers, and a large number of public were present on the occasion, the statement added.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday directed officials to ensure that every farmer arriving at paddy procurement centres is able to sell his produce without inconvenience and receives timely payment directly into his bank account.
Reviewing the progress of paddy procurement, the chief minister, according to an official statement, said the pace of purchase should be accelerated, and farmers must not face any hardship at any stage of the process.
Officials informed the meeting that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for common paddy this year has been fixed at Rs 2,369 per quintal and for Grade-A at Rs 2,389 per quintal &mdash; an increase of Rs 69 from the previous season.
At present, 4,227 procurement centres are operational. Adityanath instructed that the number of centres be increased to 5,000 so that farmers can access the facility closer to their villages and towns.
According to officials, by November 30, the state had procured 9.02 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from 1,51,030 farmers, and payments over Rs 1,984 crore had been transferred directly to their accounts.
The chief minister also made it clear that delays in payment would not be tolerated at any level.
He also directed that the supply of fortified rice to mid-day meal and anganwadi centres be ensured without interruption. Adequate stock must be maintained, he said, adding that the number of FRK (fortified rice kernel) vendors should be increased to ensure a smooth supply and that technical issues are resolved promptly.
Officials said around 2,130 metric tonnes of FRK have so far cleared quality testing.
The chief minister further asked officials to increase manpower at procurement centres wherever required to prevent crowding and avoid sending farmers back unattended.
He emphasised simplifying paddy lifting, mill mapping and other related processes to keep procurement smooth and continuous.
Availability of fertiliser and seeds was also reviewed. Adityanath directed that no district should face shortages and that farmers should get both inputs easily. Departments concerned must regularly review stock and supply positions, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the "wounds and pain of centuries are healing" as India marked the formal completion of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, and used the occasion to draw a broader national roadmap aimed at achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047.
Addressing a gathering after hoisting a saffron flag atop the Ram temple to mark the ceremonial completion of its construction, Modi said the moment symbolised a cultural resurgence for the nation.
"Today, the entire nation and the world are immersed in Ram. Centuries-old wounds are healing, centuries-long pain is finding closure, as the resolve that burned for 500 years finally reached its fulfilment," Modi said.
Calling the flag-hoisting "a unique and divine moment", the prime minister said the sacred flag atop the Ram temple would stand as a testimony to the fact that "truth ultimately triumphs over falsehood".
Congratulating all the Ram devotees and those who contributed to the temple's construction, Modi said Ayodhya had always been the land where ideals transformed into conduct.
Recalling the journey of Lord Ram, Modi said, "Ram left as a prince but returned as 'Maryada Purushottam'. The wisdom of sages, the guidance of mentors, the friendship of Nishad Raj, the devotion of Shabari, and the commitment of countless others shaped him. A developed India will need this same collective strength too."
The prime minister also said that India must look beyond the present and plan for future generations. "Those who think only of today are unfair to the coming generations. The country existed when we were not here, and it will still remain when we won't be here," Modi said.
The journey to a developed India by 2047 requires awakening the Ram "within us", Modi said. "Ram is not a person but a value, a discipline and a direction," he noted.
Reiterating the need to free the country from the "mentality of slavery", Modi said India must take pride in its civilisational identity. "Macaulay sowed the seeds of uprooting India from its roots 190 years ago. We gained Independence but not freedom from inferiority," he said, adding that the next 10 years should be dedicated to reversing this mindset.
Modi also said that colonial-era distortions led to the belief that India borrowed democracy from abroad. "India is the mother of democracy. It is in our DNA," he said, citing a thousand-year-old inscription in Tamil Nadu that documents democratic practices.
Modi said this mindset influenced even national symbols, prompting the recent redesign of the Navy's flag. "It was not just a design change; it was a change in thinking," he said.
On Ayodhya, Modi said the city is once again emerging as a model blend of antiquity and modernity. "The Ayodhya of the Treta Yuga gave humanity its moral code. The Ayodhya of the 21st century is giving the world a new model of development," Modi said, highlighting the city's new airport, upgraded railway station and improved connectivity.
The prime minister also said that nearly 45 crore devotees have visited the temple since its consecration, bringing "significant economic transformation" to the region.
Pointing to India's economic progress, Modi said: "After 70 years of Independence, India became the world's 11th largest economy. But in the last 11 years, we have become the fifth largest. The day is not far when we will become the third largest."
Invoking the metaphor of Ram's chariot in the battle against Ravan, he said India's development journey too required patience, truth, good conduct, strength and compassion. "We need a similar chariot to accelerate the journey of a developed India," he said.
The vision of Ram Rajya must guide India's future, the prime minister said, adding, "This is possible only when national interest comes before self interest, and remains supreme."

When Narendra Modi assumed leadership in 2014, it ignited a "sunrise of resolve and faith" in the hearts of millions, he said.
"Today, that resolve has been fulfilled in the form of this grand Ram temple," Adityanath said.
He added that the flag atop the Ram temple symbolised truth, justice, dignity and national dharma.
"It also represents the vision of a developed India because there is no alternative to resolve. In the last 11 years, we have all witnessed a transforming India. We now see an India where heritage and development coexist in perfect harmony, taking the nation to new heights," Adityanath said.
The chief minister also said that over the past 500 years, generations and regimes changed but the faith of the people in Lord Ram "neither stopped nor bowed."
The unwavering belief persisted, and when the struggle came under the leadership of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a single resolve echoed across the movement -- "Ramlala hum aayenge, mandir wahin banayenge", "laathi-goli khayenge, par mandir wahin banayenge", he said.
Adityanath also said there was a time when Ayodhya had fallen into neglect and disorder, but under Prime Minister Modi's, it has transformed into a "global spiritual capital".

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday urged people and officials to work with sensitivity and commitment to create a &ldquo;barrier-free India&rdquo; for persons with disabilities.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion of Vishwa Divyang Diwas (International Day of Persons with Disabilities), the chief minister said, " Let us be sensitive, let us be supportive. Let us honestly fulfil our role in building a barrier-free India for 'divyangjan' (persons with disabilities)."&nbsp;
"I want to say only one thing -- every small effort can bring a new change," he added.
Adityanath said 'divyangjan' remain an essential part of the nation's strength.&ldquo;You are no less than anyone. Your courage, talent and success are the strength of a new India. The government and society stand firmly with you. With full confidence, I assure you that every kind of support will be provided,&rdquo; he said.
He added that the state government is committed to ensuring that all schemes and benefits meant for 'divyangjan' reach them without delay.
&ldquo;We will put our full strength behind these efforts, and wherever any facility is required, it will be provided,&rdquo; he said.
Adityanath further said, &ldquo;With the guidance of the honourable Prime Minister, there is no shortage of anything. The government is standing with you on every level.&rdquo;&nbsp;
The chief minister also paid tribute to Dr Rajendra Prasad on his birth anniversary. &ldquo;I offer my humble homage to him as I remember his contributions,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;

The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a major crackdown on alleged Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators across the state, and orders were issued to establish detention centres in every division of the state, a senior official said here on Wednesday.&nbsp;
According to the official, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued directions to 17 urban local bodies to prepare detailed lists of illegal immigrants under their jurisdictions. These lists are to be submitted to the respective Commissioners and Inspectors General for further scrutiny.&nbsp;
In the first phase of the action plan, Commissioners and IGs have been instructed to set up dedicated detention centres to hold individuals identified during the verification process.&nbsp;
The chief minister has also directed that detention centres be established in every division of the state, the official said. "Following the chief minister's instructions, the administrative machinery has swung into action. Verification, documentation and field assessments have begun in several districts," the official said.&nbsp;
On November 22, Adityanath had issued clear instructions to all district magistrates of the state to take prompt and strict action against illegal immigrants and had directed that temporary detention centres be established in each district to house infiltrators.&nbsp;
The chief minister had said that law and order, national security, and social harmony are top priorities, and that any form of illegal activity will not be tolerated.&nbsp;
According to the officials, illegal immigrants with foreign citizenship will be housed in these centres and will be ensured there until the necessary verification process is completed.&nbsp;
Adityanath had said that illegal immigrants held in detention centres will be deported to their countries of origin as per the established procedures.&nbsp;
Uttar Pradesh shares an open border with Nepal, allowing free movement of citizens of both countries, but checks on residents of other nationalities.&nbsp;

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that the state government has included languages such as Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Marathi, and Bengali in its vocational education.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 in Varanasi, Adityanath said, "Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Uttar Pradesh government has included languages like Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Marathi, and Bengali in its vocational education. Students will choose one of these languages according to their interest, and the government will bear the cost," he added.
Adityanath described the Kashi Tamil Sangamam as a step that strengthens and enlivens the resolve of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
Emphasising that a large number of devotees from Uttar Pradesh visit Rameshwaram, Madurai, and Kanyakumari every year, the chief minister announced that the tourism department will organise special travel programmes that will provide pilgrims with access to these holy sites at discounted rates.
Noting that the programme is akin to investing in India's future, Adityanath said that under the prime minister's guidance, the Kashi Tamil Sangamam has become a symbol of India's cultural renaissance.
He said that Lord Shiva is at the centre of the ancient relationship between Kashi and the Tamil tradition, and this connection was furthered by Adi Shankaracharya by establishing holy Peethas in all four corners of India.
The chief minister said that this visit to Uttar Pradesh will provide the unique spiritual privilege of experiencing the divine darshan of Lord Ram after witnessing the Shiva devotion of Kashi, the Sangam (confluence of rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati) in Prayagraj, and the hoisting of the Dharmadhwaja in Ayodhya.
"This event is strengthening the cultural, educational, economic, and spiritual partnership between North and South India, opening new doors to India's bright future," he said.
Adityanath also described the car rally, which began from Tenkasi (Tamil Nadu) this year, as a major attraction of the event. He said that this 2,000-kilometre journey reminds one of the deep connection with Kashi. Referring to Adiveera Parakrama Pandian, the great ruler of the Pandya dynasty, he said that this journey is a remembrance of his ancient route towards the north.
Referring to the Aditya Hridaya Stotra composed by Maharishi Agastya, Adityanath said that this is the same hymn which Maharishi Agastya recited to Lord Ram before the battle with Ravan.
He said that great personalities like Maharishi Agastya, Adi Guru Shankaracharya, Saint Thiruvalluvar, Jagadguru Ramanujacharya, and Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan originated from South India and spread the light of knowledge throughout the country. Shaiva and Vaishnava devotional traditions demonstrate the spiritual richness of Tamil civilisation.
He explained that the Chettiar community has been providing worship materials for the Kashi Vishwanath Temple for the past 200 years. The tradition of anointing Sri Ramanathaswamy of Rameshwaram with water from the Triveni Sangam and Kashi Vishwanath with water from Koditheertham is now continuing every month.
Referring to Kashi's Kedar Ghat, Hanuman Ghat, and Harishchandra Ghat, he said that Tamil culture is still vibrant here.
He described the joint educational projects of IIT Madras and BHU as an inspiring step towards national unity.
Mentioning that visitors will also visit Prayagraj and Ayodhya during their stay, Adityanath said that a temple dedicated to Maharishi Agastya has been built in the Ram Janmabhoomi complex in Ayodhya, and his statue has been installed.
The entrance to the Ram temple is named after Jagadguru Shankaracharya and Jagadguru Ramanujacharya, and statues of South Indian saints Tyagaraja, Purandara Dasa, and Arunachala Kavi are also installed in Ayodhya's Brihaspati Kund, Adityanath said.
He also said that the construction of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham under the leadership of the prime minister has reinvigorated the country's cultural and spiritual energies.
Over 26 crore devotees have visited the temple in the last four years, with the largest number coming from Tamil Nadu, he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the situation at the MahaKumbh following a stampede-like incident early in the morning.&nbsp;
He remains in constant communication with the state government and has spoken with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath three times this morning, providing directives to help normalize the situation and facilitate relief efforts.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also reached out to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the wake of the incident at the Sangam during the Mauni Amavasya celebrations at the Mahakumbh Mela. Shah assured Adityanath of the Centre&rsquo;s full support in handling the situation.
After the Akharas initially called off the Holy Dip for the day, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Ravindra Puri, confirmed that the Akharas will now resume their 'snan' today.&nbsp;
He emphasized that they are maintaining continuous communication with the Mela administration. Speaking to ANI, Puri said, "Our snan was postponed in the morning after a massive crowd gathered at the ghats. We tried to postpone our plan. Now that the crowd has reduced and the ghats meant for our snan are being vacated, it seems that all Akharas will be able to do snan today... We all, our all Mahamandaleshwars, Mandaleshwars, Naga Sadhus and devotees, will take a holy dip today..."
Puri further stated that the Akharas would still hold their traditional procession, albeit on a smaller scale. He also mentioned that the holy dip could take place even at night. "Our processions will be carried out as usual according to our tradition but will be on a smaller scale... We are in regular contact with the Mela administration... We have a lot of time and we are in no hurry. We can do snan even at night, as it is Mauni Amavasya today..." he added.
Following the stampede-like situation at Mahakumbh, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad attributed the incident to the "spread of misinformation."&nbsp;
He remarked, "In the morning, misinformation was spread to create fear in the minds of people. And they succeeded. In the morning when we talked to everyone, we found that the reality was different and a lot of rumours were spread... I want to urge people to not run towards Sangam and take a dip wherever they find Ganga ji..."
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged devotees to take their holy dip at the nearest available ghat instead of converging at a single location.&nbsp;
He posted on X, "Dear devotees, come to Prayagraj. Take a bath at the ghat of Mother Ganga near which you are; do not try to go towards Sangam Nose. All of you should follow the instructions of the administration and cooperate in making arrangements. People are bathing peacefully at all the ghats of Sangam. Do not pay any attention to any rumours."
The incident occurred as an enormous gathering of devotees assembled at the Sangam Ghats for the 'Amrit Snan' on the occasion of 'Mauni Amavasya.'&nbsp;
This event marks the second Shahi Snan and is expected to attract between 80 to 100 million pilgrims. Other significant bathing dates during the Maha Kumbh include February 3 (Basant Panchami&mdash;Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
