The festival is observed through prayers, rituals, and expressions of gratitude toward gurus, teachers, and mentors. Following Sonbhadra's exemplary lead were Jhansi (99.51 lakh), Lakhimpur Kheri (96.75 lakh), Jalaun (95.66 lakh) and Mirzapur (70 lakh), securing the subsequent top positions.
Among government departments, the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change spearheaded the drive, planting a remarkable 14.05 crore saplings. The Rural Development Department also made a substantial impact, securing second place with over 13.12 crore saplings, largely contributing to rural greening efforts.
The Agriculture Department (4.15 crore), Horticulture Department (1.55 crore) and Panchayati Raj Department (1.16 crore) rounded out the top five departmental contributors.
The species primarily chosen for this extensive plantation drive included Sheesham with 4.45 crore saplings, followed closely by teak (4.32 crore), jamun (1.84 crore), Arjun (1.61 crore) and guava (1.53 crore).
In addition to these, a significant number of medicinal and fruit-bearing plants, such as mango, guava, jamun, drumstick and neem, were also widely planted, aiming to enhance both ecological and economic sustainability.
This unparalleled drive marks a pivotal step in realising the dream of a "Green UP", fostering not only environmental conservation but also contributing to the state's long-term ecological and economic well-being.
The massive public participation and the record-breaking numbers signify a growing environmental consciousness across UP, the statement said.&nbsp;

The WWE index assesses the reach of government schemes among women and drives gender-inclusive, evidence-based policymaking.
Calling it a &ldquo;historic step,&rdquo; the chief minister highlighted its role in promoting dignity and self-reliance for women across Uttar Pradesh, an official statement said.
The index evaluates all 75 districts across five core parameters: entrepreneurship, employment, education and skill development, livelihood, and safety and transportation infrastructure.
It provides insights into which districts are effectively extending benefits to women and where targeted interventions are required.
Adityanath directed that the WEE Index be integrated with the CM's control room to ensure real-time monitoring.
"All departments must treat the index as a foundational tool for policymaking and tracking outcomes. Departments should formulate actionable plans based on the index, prioritising women&rsquo;s empowerment in their respective areas. District-level strategies must be developed to localise the impact of state schemes," he said.
The presentation highlighted districts such as Lucknow, Kanpur Nagar and Varanasi, where women notably benefited from government initiatives.
In contrast, districts such as Shravasti, Sambhal, Mahoba, Balrampur, and Siddharthnagar were flagged for urgent intervention.
Adityanath directed that targeted campaigns be launched under the ODOP Margin Money Scheme in Banda, Jalaun, Jaunpur, Mahoba, Shravasti, and Sitapur to ensure greater inclusion of women.
He also stressed the need to expand women&rsquo;s participation in the workforce and governance.
Calling on the need for prioritising women in the recruitment of home guards and teachers, similar to the policy followed in police hiring, the chief minister also directed special efforts to increase women&rsquo;s enrollment in technical institutes, vocational programs, and skill training centres.
Every district, he said, should set up a &lsquo;re-enrolment unit&rsquo; to bring back women who had dropped out of skill courses.
The chief minister highlighted the importance of ensuring paramedical institutes are available to support women&rsquo;s advancement in healthcare and service sectors.
The meeting also discussed strategies to enhance women's participation in the public transport system. Adityanath advocated for providing women with opportunities as drivers and conductors, along with specialised training and support facilities.
The chief minister urged all departments to treat the WEE Index not as a mere report, but as a mission-critical framework.

Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directive, several such labs, developed on the public-private partnership (PPP) model, are now operational in various districts, the UP government said in a statement here on Monday.
These labs allow students to explore the mysteries of space not just through textbooks but also through hands-on experience with telescopes, VR (virtual reality) headsets and microscopes. The day is not far when every child in the state can dream of reaching the stars like Shubhanshu Shukla and soar toward their aspirations, the statement said.
Named as Amrit Kaal Learning Centres, these astro labs provide rural students the opportunity to understand complex concepts like space, light and gravity through real-time experimentation.
Developed under the PPP model, the labs are equipped with state-of-the-art tools like Dobsonian telescopes, VR headsets and other equipment. The programme also includes orientation sessions, video guides and mentorship initiatives for teachers to support effective teaching.
Ballia District Magistrate Mangla Prasad Singh said in line with the chief minister's vision, science and astronomy labs have been set up in all 17 blocks of the district to promote scientific thinking. "These labs are designed to foster experiential and inquiry-based learning," Singh said.
Ballia Chief Development Officer (CDO) Aojaswi Raj explained that the cost of setting up each astro lab ranges from Rs 2.5 to Rs 3 lakh, covering both equipment and teacher training.
"The labs have Dobsonian telescopes, VR headsets, light experiment kits, anatomical models, microscopes and other practical tools," Raj said.
He added that these labs have significantly increased students' curiosity and conceptual clarity.
"Children are now asking questions, gazing at the sky with wonder and yearning to explore the secrets of the universe. Thanks to CM Yogi Adityanath's visionary leadership, knowledge of science, sociology and economics is no longer limited to urban areas.
"With access to such resources, children in the state's villages are now dreaming of careers at NASA and ISRO, and beginning to believe that those dreams can come true," he said.&nbsp;

Citing the views of eminent socialist leader Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, he said that as long as Indians continue to worship Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram, Leela Purushottam Murli Manohar Shri Krishna and Devadhidev Mahadev Shankar, no force in the world can harm the nation.
"It's unfortunate that today, those who claim to follow Lohia's ideology no longer heed his words," said Adityanath, according to a press statement issued here.
"But one thing is certain, anyone who opposes Lord Ram is bound to face ruin," he added.
The chief minister was addressing the concluding session of the Shri Ram Katha and Guru Purnima Mahotsav held at the Digvijaynath Smriti Bhavan in Gorakhnath Temple.
After offering floral tributes to the portraits of the late Mahants Digvijaynath and Avaidyanath and worshipping the Vyaspeeth, Adityanath emphasized that the stories of Shri Ram and other deities are integral to India's cultural fabric.
The chief minister reminded the audience that Dr Lohia, a staunch socialist, freedom fighter and fierce critic of the Congress Party had initiated Ramayana Melas and stood firmly for Sanatan Dharma, the statement said.
He recalled that in the years following Independence, "when doubts were raised about India's unity, Dr Lohia had affirmed that as long as Ram, Krishna and Shiva are worshipped, there can be no disunity".
Expressing regret, Adityanath said that today's so-called socialists have strayed from Dr Lohia's path and now "even open fire" on Ram devotees.
Referring to the fate of the demon Maricha from the Ramayana, the chief minister said that despite being born into a noble lineage, the former met a tragic end.
"Though born human, he died like an animal. This is the consequence of betraying righteousness," he said.
Adityanath stressed the importance of aligning one's actions and thoughts, saying that even an illiterate person can recite the Hanuman Chalisa with devotion and Hanuman became revered just by serving Lord Ram with unwavering faith.
"Shri Ram, Shri Krishna, Lord Shankar and the epics associated with them are not just stories, they are symbols of our faith, heritage and the highest ideals of a civilised culture. It is the duty of every Indian to safeguard and uphold these legacies. Ram, Krishna and Shiva are living embodiments of Sanatan Dharma," he said.
The chief minister called Sanatan Dharma the soul of India.
Citing a Muslim woman lawyer who once said, "We are also Sanatanis. India has only one religion. Sanatan Dharma. My mode of worship may be Islam, but my religion is Sanatan", he urged people to understand the difference between dharma, sect and faith.
Adityanath explained that Sanatan Dharma is not merely a method of worship, but a way of life that embraces various forms of devotion.
The chief minister said that Shri Ram Katha has been an intrinsic part of the Indian tradition for thousands of years.
"There is no Sanatani in the world who is unfamiliar with the episodes of Shri Ram Katha. Ramayana remains the most watched television serial even today. When India had a population of 100 crore and only half had access to television, 66 crore people still watched the serial," he added.
Adityanath said that Ramayana was the most viewed programme on Doordarshan during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Describing Guru Purnima as a glorious occasion, the chief minister said it offers an opportunity to express gratitude toward one's teacher.
"India is the only country that has taught the world how to express gratitude," he added.
The chief minister further said that the birth anniversary of Maharishi Ved Vyas is celebrated as Guru Purnima and it is through Ved Vyas that the Indian tradition of knowledge was codified for future generations.
He asserted that it is untrue to claim Indians failed to preserve their heritage or lacked scientific and modern knowledge.
"Such claims were made to malign Indians through intellectual deceit. In reality, the Vedas, the world's most ancient texts, were composed in India when the rest of the world lived in darkness," said Adityanath.
The chief minister also reminded the audience of Naimisharanya, where 3,500 years ago, thousands of sages gathered in a grand workshop to shape the Indian tradition of knowledge.
Expressing delight over the plantation of over 37 crore saplings in a single day across the state, he said that such large-scale afforestation can give development a more sustainable form.
Adityanath noted that the state has witnessed significant improvement in forest cover due to the plantation of 241 crore saplings in the past nine years under his government's efforts.
Emphasizing the importance of plantation along rivers and water bodies, he said that rivers are to mother earth what arteries are to the human body.
"Rivers are considered the cradle of civilization, but we are facing pollution and numerous health challenges due to the disappearance of riverine culture," said Adityanath.

According to a statement issued by the government, as part of this "green revolution", the flagship mega-plantation campaign -- "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0" -- has set a new record in 2025 by planting more than 37.21 crore saplings in a single year.
This contributes to the more than 240 crore saplings planted across the state over the last eight years.
According to the forest department, the overall survival rate for the saplings planted between 2021-22 and 2024-25 is 86.67 per cent. This figure has shown a consistent improvement annually, rising from 76.87 per cent in 2021-22 to a remarkable 96.06 per cent in 2024-25.
Since 2017, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed an increase of approximately 5 lakh acres (about 2,023 sq. km) in its green cover. The combined forest and tree cover has expanded from 9.18 per cent to nearly 10 per cent of the state's geographical area. Specifically, the tree cover increased by roughly 2 lakh acres between 2017 and 2021, with an additional 1.38 lakh acres added from 2021 to 2023, totalling nearly 3.38 lakh acres to date, the statement read.
Furthermore, a Forest Survey of India (FSI) report from Dehradun reveals Uttar Pradesh's contribution to climate action. By 2023, the state's tree cover outside designated forest areas increased by 3.72 per cent, surpassing the national average of 3.41 per cent. The state also recorded a 2.46-per cent rise in the forest carbon stock, which is almost double the national average of 1.13 per cent, the statement added.&nbsp;

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow will host a two-day event 'Yuva Kaushal Chaupal' beginning July 15 on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day.
The two-day event is being organized under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Skill India, Super Power India' mission and the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The event will celebrate the transformational journeys of youth, who have become self-reliant through skill training.
Hundreds of youth trained by the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission will participate in the event, said a press statement.
Out of these, 11 outstanding individuals, who have not only secured employment through their skills but also created job opportunities for others, will be featured as "Skill Youth Icons" and allowed to share their inspirational stories on stage.
Minister of State for Skill Development (Independent Charge) Kapil Dev Agarwal said the 'Yuva Kaushal Chaupal' aims to amplify the message of Skill India and demonstrate that skill is true power.
He emphasised that this platform would inspire young people across villages and towns to pursue self-reliance through skill development.
From launching mobile repair shops, beauty parlours and digital studios to starting cafe chains or securing hotel jobs, these young achievers demonstrate how skills can transform lives.
Their stories will serve as a powerful source of motivation, proving that unemployed youth can become job creators with the right training.

Uttar Pradesh distributes ₹49.55 lakh to 244 farmers under its pioneering Carbon Credit Finance Scheme; next phase to benefit 401 more farmers.

The Uttar Pradesh government is implementing the Carbon Credit Finance Scheme to promote environmental protection and strengthen the economic well-being of farmers.
So far, Rs 49.55 lakh has already been distributed to 244 farmers under the scheme, said a press statement.
In the next phase, the government is set to disburse Rs 25.45 lakh to 401 more farmers, with the process officially initiated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the state-wide plantation drive in Ayodhya Dham.
Uttar Pradesh is the first state in the country to implement such a model.
The farmers from Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Lucknow, Meerut, Moradabad and Saharanpur divisions have been included in the first phase.
Through agroforestry, these farmers have collectively generated an estimated 42.19 lakh carbon credits. At the rate of $6 per carbon credit, the distribution takes place every five years, said the statement.
The farmers selected under this phase include those from Badaun, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, and Bareilly (Bareilly division); Bijnor, Najibabad, Sambhal, Rampur (Moradabad division); Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Hapur and rural areas of Rampur (Meerut division).
In Gorakhpur division, the districts of Deoria, Kushinagar and Gorakhpur are included, while the districts of Hardoi, South Kheri , Raebareli, Sitapur and Unnao are covered in Lucknow division.
In the second phase, the scheme will be extended to Devi Patan, Ayodhya, Jhansi, Mirzapur, Kanpur, Varanasi and Aligarh divisions, and eventually rolled out across the entire state in phase three.
The scheme is being implemented in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
Under this model, one carbon credit is issued for every metric ton of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases absorbed from the atmosphere. The scheme not only supports India's climate goals, but it also enhances farmers' income.
By participating in this programme, the farmers can earn Rs 250 to Rs 350 per tree apart from the standard market price of the tree.
The scheme aligns with the Government of India's goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2070 and stands as a landmark step toward that vision.&nbsp;

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the situation at the MahaKumbh following a stampede-like incident early in the morning.&nbsp;
He remains in constant communication with the state government and has spoken with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath three times this morning, providing directives to help normalize the situation and facilitate relief efforts.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also reached out to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the wake of the incident at the Sangam during the Mauni Amavasya celebrations at the Mahakumbh Mela. Shah assured Adityanath of the Centre&rsquo;s full support in handling the situation.
After the Akharas initially called off the Holy Dip for the day, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Ravindra Puri, confirmed that the Akharas will now resume their 'snan' today.&nbsp;
He emphasized that they are maintaining continuous communication with the Mela administration. Speaking to ANI, Puri said, "Our snan was postponed in the morning after a massive crowd gathered at the ghats. We tried to postpone our plan. Now that the crowd has reduced and the ghats meant for our snan are being vacated, it seems that all Akharas will be able to do snan today... We all, our all Mahamandaleshwars, Mandaleshwars, Naga Sadhus and devotees, will take a holy dip today..."
Puri further stated that the Akharas would still hold their traditional procession, albeit on a smaller scale. He also mentioned that the holy dip could take place even at night. "Our processions will be carried out as usual according to our tradition but will be on a smaller scale... We are in regular contact with the Mela administration... We have a lot of time and we are in no hurry. We can do snan even at night, as it is Mauni Amavasya today..." he added.
Following the stampede-like situation at Mahakumbh, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad attributed the incident to the "spread of misinformation."&nbsp;
He remarked, "In the morning, misinformation was spread to create fear in the minds of people. And they succeeded. In the morning when we talked to everyone, we found that the reality was different and a lot of rumours were spread... I want to urge people to not run towards Sangam and take a dip wherever they find Ganga ji..."
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged devotees to take their holy dip at the nearest available ghat instead of converging at a single location.&nbsp;
He posted on X, "Dear devotees, come to Prayagraj. Take a bath at the ghat of Mother Ganga near which you are; do not try to go towards Sangam Nose. All of you should follow the instructions of the administration and cooperate in making arrangements. People are bathing peacefully at all the ghats of Sangam. Do not pay any attention to any rumours."
The incident occurred as an enormous gathering of devotees assembled at the Sangam Ghats for the 'Amrit Snan' on the occasion of 'Mauni Amavasya.'&nbsp;
This event marks the second Shahi Snan and is expected to attract between 80 to 100 million pilgrims. Other significant bathing dates during the Maha Kumbh include February 3 (Basant Panchami&mdash;Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).

UP Police has deployed over 66,000 personnel, drones, and surveillance teams to ensure a safe and peaceful Kanwar Yatra starting July 11.

The Uttar Pradesh Police have put in place extensive security arrangements for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, which begins on July 11.&nbsp;
The deployment includes the Rapid Action Force (RAF), Quick Response Teams (QRT), Anti-Terror Squad (ATS), and other specialised units to ensure a peaceful and safe pilgrimage.
According to guidelines issued by Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna, the deployment includes 587 gazetted officers, 2,040 inspectors, 13,520 sub-inspectors, 39,965 head constables and constables, 1,486 women sub-inspectors, 8,541 women head constables and constables, 50 companies of Central Police Force and Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC), and 1,424 home guards.
For round-the-clock vigilance, UP-112 teams have been briefed and provided with vehicles. Local divers have been stationed on riverbanks after undergoing proper training. Danger signs and barricading are being installed near water bodies for additional safety.
A total of 395 drones will be used for aerial surveillance, and 29,454 CCTV cameras have been installed along the Kanwar route and camps after anti-sabotage checks. Real-time monitoring will be conducted through these surveillance systems.
To assist devotees, the administration has set up 1,845 water service centres, 829 medical camps, and 1,222 police help centres and control rooms. Information such as mobile numbers of police officers, traffic diversion schemes, and emergency contacts will be shared via barcodes in newspapers, hoardings, and social media.
An eight-member team has been constituted at the Social Media Centre of DGP Headquarters to track misinformation related to the Yatra and take action against rumour-mongers. Another eight-member team will monitor inputs from media, UP-112, and other sources 24x7.
To streamline coordination, an inter-state WhatsApp group has been formed with officials from UP, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Rajasthan to share real-time updates on routes, crowd management, and security.
For traffic regulation, highways have been identified for diversions, and arrangements such as lighting, digital signboards, and indicator signs are in place. Rehearsals for route diversion schemes are being carried out, and updates will be shared through press releases and social media.
Devotees are being advised to avoid speeding. Bhandaara and camp setups will only be allowed on the left side of highways, at least 20 feet from the road.
Special arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of women Kanwariyas. Immediate action will be taken against any incident of misbehaviour. Hotels and dhabas along the route will be monitored in coordination with the food department to maintain hygiene standards, and rate lists will be displayed to prevent overcharging.
