India's space agency ISRO on September 4 announced yet another achievement by Chandrayaan-3, with the Moon mission going beyond its mission objectives this time.
ISRO said that the Vikram lander performed a "hop" experiment on the Moon's surface. The Vikram lander module fired its engines, rose 40 cm above the lunar surface, and landed around 30-40 cm away from its original position.
ISRO said that this manoeuvre was important because it makes it seem possible to bring back lunar samples, and even send Indian astronauts to the Moon.

Notably, Shaji was also the Associate Project Director of Resourcesat-2A.

Following the successful launch of India's solar mission amid cheers and claps, Shaji said, it's a dream come true.

Basking in the glory of the success of its moon mission, India is now ready with its maiden mission to the Sun.
According to ISRO, Aditya-L1 will be placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 or L1 of the Sun-Earth system, which is about 1.5 million km from the Earth.
Placing the spacecraft in a halo orbit around the L1 point of the Earth-Sun system will mean that it will be able to continuously view the sun, without any disruption.
Equipped with seven payloads, Aditya L1 will study the Sun&rsquo;s corona, solar emissions, solar winds and flares, and will carry out round-the-clock imaging of the star.

After the lift-off at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre here, the scientists would be involved in placing the spacecraft at Low Earth Orbit initially, and later it will be more elliptical.

ISRO on Saturday launched the country's ambitious Solar mission, Aditya L1 eyeing history again after its successful lunar expedition, Chandrayan 3 a few days ago.
As the 23.40-hour countdown concluded, the 44.4-meter-tall Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) soared majestically at the prefixed time of 11.50 am from this spaceport, located on the Eastern coast about 135 km from Chennai.
It will be PSLV's "longest flight" for about 63 minutes.
According to ISRO, Aditya-L1 is the first space-based observatory to study the Sun. The spacecraft, after travelling about 1.5 million km from the Earth over 125 days, is expected to be placed in a Halo orbit around the Lagrangian point L1 which is considered closest to the Sun.
Among others, it will send pictures of the sun for scientific experiments.

&nbsp;Lunar mission Chandrayaan 3's rover and lander are functioning well and they would be put to "sleep" soon to withstand the night on the Moon, ISRO Chairman S Somanath said on Saturday.
The lander and rover, 'Vikram' and 'Pragyaan', respectively, were still functioning and "our team with scientific instruments are doing a lot of work now," he said.
"The good news is that the rover has moved almost 100 metres from the lander and we are going to start the process of making both of them sleep in the coming one or two days because they have to withstand the night," he said.

After the launch of Chandrayaan-3 Moon lander and Aditya-L1 ventures, ISRO has readied a mission aimed at enhancing cutting edge scientific understanding in Astronomy.
XPoSat (X-ray Polarimeter Satellite) is India's first dedicated polarimetry mission to study various dynamics of bright astronomical X-ray sources in extreme conditions.
The spacecraft will carry two scientific payloads in a low earth orbit.
The primary payload POLIX (Polarimeter Instrument in X-rays) will measure the polarimetry parameters (degree and angle of polarization) in medium X-ray energy range of 8-30 keV photons of astronomical origin. The XSPECT (X-ray Spectroscopy and Timing) payload will give spectroscopic information in the energy range of 0.8-15 keV, according to ISRO.
"XPoSat is ready for launch," an official of the national space agency headquartered in Bengaluru said on Saturday. According to ISRO, the emission mechanism from various astronomical sources such as blackholes, neutron stars, active galactic nuclei, pulsar wind nebulae originates from complex physical processes and are challenging to understand.
While the spectroscopic and timing information by various space-based observatories provide a wealth of information, the exact nature of the emission from such sources still poses deeper challenges to astronomers, ISRO officials say.

Earlier, the rover confirmed the presence of Sulphur on the lunar surface.

The ILSA payload on the Chandrayaan 3 lander to study lunar seismic activity has not only recorded the movements of the rover and other payloads but also has recorded an event, appearing to be a natural one, on August 26.
&ldquo;The source of this event is under investigation,&rdquo; ISRO said.
These quantitative measurements potentially assist in mitigating the noise that Lunar plasma introduces into radio wave communication. Also, they could contribute to the enhanced designs for upcoming lunar visitors, ISRO said.

ISRO has released a video of the rover rotating in search of a safe route. The rotation was captured by a lander imager camera.
"It feels as though a child is playfully frolicking in the yards of Chandamama, while the mother watches affectionately.
Isn't it?" ISRO quipped in the social media post.
The space agency released a video showing an automated hinge mechanism rotating the 18 cm tall APXS, aligning the detector head to be approximately five centimetres in proximity to the lunar surface.
The 26-kg, six-wheeled, solar-powered Pragyan rover is equipped to use its scientific instruments to record what the lunar soil and rocks are made of in the south polar region where Chandrayaan-3 landed and it would also show how the readings contrast with that of the highland regions.
APXS instrument is best suited for in-situ analysis of the elemental composition of soil and rocks on the surface of planetary bodies having little atmosphere, such as the Moon, an ISRO statement said.

India's Aditya-L1 solar mission spacecraft has commenced collecting scientific data to help scientists analyse particles surrounding Earth, ISRO said on Monday.
The sensors onboard India's first solar observatory have begun measuring ions and electrons at distances greater than 50,000 km from Earth, ISRO announced in a post on X.
The National Space Agency said that the sensors on STEPS or the Supra Thermal &amp; Energetic Particle Spectrometer instrument began measuring supra-thermal and energetic ions and electrons at distances greater than 50,000 km from Earth.
The instrument is a part of the Aditya Solar Wind Particle EXperiment (ASPEX) payload of Aditya L1.
STEPS comprises six sensors, each observing in different directions and measuring supra-thermal and energetic ions ranging from 20 keV/nucleon to 5 MeV/nucleon, in addition to electrons exceeding 1 MeV. These measurements are conducted using low and high-energy particle spectrometers.
The data collected during Earth's orbits helps scientists to analyse the behaviour of particles surrounding the Earth, especially in the presence of its magnetic field.
STEPS was activated on September 10 at a distance greater than 50,000 km from Earth. This distance is equivalent to more than eight times the Earth's radius, placing it well beyond Earth's radiation belt region.

Doctors were seen lining up hospital corridors as the brain-dead patient's body was brought out of the operation theatre. Surgeons had removed the pig&rsquo;s kidney after the experiment concluded.
The body of Maurice &ldquo;Mo&rdquo; Miller was donated to the hospital after he was declared brain-dead. He was reportedly suffering from a brain tumour previously.&nbsp;
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s a combination of excitement and relief,&rdquo; Dr. Robert Montgomery, the transplant surgeon who led the experiment, told The Associated Press.

A yearlong NASA probe into hundreds of UFO sightings has found there was no evidence aliens were behind the unexplained phenomena, but the American space agency also could not rule out that possibility. Aditya L1 completes third Earth-bound manoeuvre

The manoeuvres are required to be performed during the spacecraft's 16-day journey around the earth, during which it will gain the velocity necessary for its onward journey to L1.

Aditya L1 spacecraft, India's first space-based mission to study the Sun, successfully underwent its third earth-bound manoeuvre in the early hours of Sunday, ISRO said.
The space agency's Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) carried out the operation.
"The third Earth-bound manoeuvre (EBN#3) is performed successfully from ISTRAC, Bengaluru. ISRO's ground stations at Mauritius, Bengaluru, SDSC-SHAR and Port Blair tracked the satellite during this operation," the Indian Space Research Organisation ISRO) said in a post on social media platform X.
The new orbit attained is 296 km x 71767 km, it said, adding the next manoeuvre is scheduled on September 15, around 2 am.
Aditya-L1 is the first Indian space-based observatory that will study the Sun from a halo orbit around the first Sun-Earth Lagrangian point (L1), which is located roughly 1.5 million km from the Earth.
The first and second earth-bound manoeuvres were successfully performed on September 3 and 5, respectively. The spacecraft will undergo one more earth-bound orbital manoeuvres before it is placed in the transfer orbit towards the Lagrange point L1.

The Aditya L-1 will take 125 days to reach the Sun-Earth L1 point.

ISRO on Thursday released a "selfie" and images of the Earth and the Moon taken by the camera on-board Aditya-L1 solar mission spacecraft.
"Aditya-L1, destined for the Sun-Earth L1 point, takes a selfie and images of the Earth and the Moon," the Bengaluru-headquartered national space agency said on 'X'.
The images show VELC (Visible Emission Line Coronagraph) and SUIT (Solar Ultraviolet Imager) instruments as seen by the camera on-board Aditya-L1 on September 2, 2023.
ISRO also shared the images of the Earth and Moon as seen by the camera.

The spacecraft is currently near the moon’s south pole since its successful soft landing on August 23.

5. Asteroid 2020 RT2: Lastly, on September 12, 2020 RT2, a bus-sized asteroid measuring approximately 25 feet, will pass at a distance of around 2,620,000 miles from Earth.
