K-beauty is definitely the buzzword of today’s world. Porcelain or glass-like skin is a dream of every woman and man (yes men want good skin too!) and Korean skincare routines promise the same. In fact, Koreans spend on skincare more than any other population in the world.

Korean skincare claims to be all about using skin suitable products that nourish and protect the skin in a slow and steady manner rather than using harsh ingredients that damage the skin’s natural barrier and leave it vulnerable. K-beauty is known for nourishing, hydrating, and protecting the skin.

We all have heard about Korean sheet masks for instant pick me up for the skin, but in reality, it is a multi-step routine that one needs to follow regularly because all Korean skincare products are designed to work for the long term.

A basic 10 step K-beauty routine includes:

• Double cleansing using an oil-based and then a water-based cleanser which will clean all the impurities from the skin.

• Exfoliation using both physical and chemical exfoliators remove the dead skin cells.

• Korean toners are milder and pH balanced and they act as the first hydrators for the skin.

• Essences are the crux of Korean skincare. They are a blend of hydrating and skin-boosting ingredients.

• Sheet masks are the soul of K-beauty, as they relax the skin, moisturise and revitalise it.

• Eye creams in K-beauty take care of the intensive deep circles & puffiness.

• SPF is a must whether you are inside or outside. It is the most effective way to prevent premature ageing.

The important thing to remember about Korean skincare is to modify according to your skin type. Your routine need not be complicated; take a close look at your skin or enlist the help of your skin specialist to know what ingredients are in what product and what will suit you.

Here are some myths associated with K-beauty skincare:

• It is not suitable for Indian skin: the fact is that Korean skincare is suitable for all skin types.

• Anti-ageing treatments should come in later: In Korean routine anti-aging routines can start when you want.

• Facial oils cannot be used for oily skin: K-beauty includes oils like grapeseed, sunflower, hempseed which are actually beneficial for the oily skin.
