Ranveer Singh’s nude photoshoot: PIL in HC seeks seizure of all printed copies of magazine

Ranveer Singh’s nude photoshoot took the internet by storm last month and the actor has been in news ever since. While many trolled him for his bold move, he also received support from all across the globe. Now, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in Calcutta High Court seeking directives to the West Bengal government and the authorities concerned to remove all printed copies of the current issue of Paper Magazine which was published on July 23, according to Indian Express.

The plea was reportedly filed last week by advocate Nazia Ilahi Khan, who alleged that Raveer's image is ‘obscene as per the opinion of the public at large’. It also seeks to block the magazine’s website within West Bengal.

As per Indian Express, the petitioner submitted that the picture of Ranveer would ‘deprave the mind of the public at large in West Bengal, especially of minors’ and therefore the circulation of the related magazine needs to be stopped immediately.

The matter is likely to be heard later this week.

For the unversed, an FIR has already been filed against the ‘Gully Boy’ actor in Maharashtra for posing nude and publishing the pictures on various social media pages. The FIR has been lodged under Sections 292, 293, and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and Section 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
