Aromatherapy is often used during massages or even at homes in oil diffusers as it influences the brain and nervous system.&nbsp;
For the study, the team included 120 nurses who were divided into three groups based on oil scents: rose, lavender and other nonscented oils like sesame.&nbsp;
Researchers concluded that scented oils reduce sympathetic stimulations that in turn, lower stress. They also noted that rose scent has a positive effect on the nurses&rsquo; job stress as compared to other scents.&nbsp;

Published in the journal Critical Reviews in Food and Nutrition, a recent study suggests, vitamin D supplements could ease symptoms of depression in people.&nbsp;
We are all aware of Vitamin D&rsquo;s role in keeping our bones, teeth and muscles healthy. Now, researchers have also found a connection between vitamin D deficiency and depression.&nbsp;
For the study, researchers analysed data from a total of 53,235 volunteers across 41 studies. These participants included individuals with and without depression and those taking vitamin D supplements.&nbsp;
They noted that vitamin D supplementation has beneficial effects on individuals with depression. However, the data only indicates that vitamin D supplements ease depressive symptoms and don't cure them.&nbsp;
As per WHO, depression affects more than 280 million people every year and having antidepressants can worsen the condition. So, drop that pill and soak in some sunshine for great mental health!&nbsp;

The study found that working with plants twice a week helps to relax and reduce anxiety, stress and depression among healthy women.
None of the participants were involved in gardening before the study which focused women who do not have any pre-existing physical or mental illness.
The research was conducted on thirty-two women aged between 26 and 49. Half of them were assigned to do gardening and the other half were asked to take art-making sessions. Both of the groups met twice in a week for 4 weeks.
The researchers found that both, the gardening and art-making groups, experienced similar improvements in their <a href="https://www.editorji.com/lifestyle-news/health/4-mental-health-tips-for-young-adults-1655378318012" target="_blank">mental health</a>. However, the gardener group showed less anxiety in comparison to the art makers group.

According to a recent study published in Science Advances, the hearts of men and women react differently to the stress hormone noradrenaline. In the research done on rats, it was seen what effect heart failure and drugs can have on different genders.&nbsp;
The team created a new type of fluorescence imaging system that allowed them to use light to see how the rats&rsquo; hearts responded to hormones and neurotransmitters in real time. The rats were exposed to noradrenaline, also known as norepinephrine.&nbsp;
The results revealed that after exposure to noradrenaline, the hearts of male and female rats first reacted similarly. However, some regions of the female heart normalised more quickly than those of the male heart, which creates differences in the heart's electrical activity.&nbsp;

Later, a group of 4 dogs were presented with the samples from both before and after the stress. And they indeed correctly identified each person&rsquo;s stress sample in nearly 94 percent of the 720 trials that were done.
According to the researchers, this ability of dogs can also be beneficial in training and therapy services.

The researchers conducted an online experiment where 295 participants were randomly allotted to one of the four treatments, for 6 minutes: birdsong low, birdsong high, traffic noise low and traffic noise high variety soundscapes.&nbsp;
After this, the participants also completed a few tasks that included answering sadness, anxiety and paranoid questionnaires.&nbsp;
Later, it was observed that birdsongs had a positive impact on feelings of paranoia. However, it did not have any effect on cognitive performance. Study authors also believed that birdsongs could also be applied to prevent mental disorders.&nbsp;

The research by the Centre for Economic and Social Research (CESR) at the University of Southern California recently published a study in the journal PLOS, that stated that the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine resulted in significant improvements in mental health.

The researchers analysed 8,003 adults who were surveyed at regular intervals between March 10, 2020, and March 31, 2021. It was found that people who got vaccinated between December 2020 and March 2021 reported decreased mental distress levels in the surveys conducted after receiving the first dose.
While the Indian doctors affirm that the study is plausible, however, they also&nbsp;emphasised the lack of a similar study in India, that could confirm a correlation between the Indian vaccines and their impact on mental health.

The&nbsp;yearning for calmness and inner peace was most pronounced in East Asia with 85 per cent picking&nbsp;tranquil vibes&nbsp;over excitement, followed by 82&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;in Latin America,&nbsp;75&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;U.S. and Canada&nbsp;and,&nbsp;73 per cent&nbsp;in&nbsp;Australia and New Zealand.&nbsp;While&nbsp;Eastern and Western Europe stood&nbsp;at 71 per cent and 68 per cent respectively.&nbsp;

Interestingly, Indians and South Asians, in general, were not as inclined towards calmness with only 56 per cent preferring&nbsp;tranquillity&nbsp;over excitement.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The findings may come as a surprise to some as a penchant for calm is generally associated&nbsp;with Eastern cultures.&nbsp;But the survey done&nbsp;in partnership with&nbsp;the Wellbeing for Planet Earth (WPE) Foundation&nbsp;proves that&nbsp;at least in 2020, people across the world were seeking&nbsp;a life of calm.&nbsp;
The researchers say the pandemic might have skewed preferences. Faced with unprecedented stress and&nbsp;uncertainty, the&nbsp;notion&nbsp;of going out and trying exciting things poses&nbsp;too much risk for most, at least for now.

In a not-so-surprising revelation, a new global survey of emotions in 2020 says that the pandemic year&nbsp;was a record year for stress,&nbsp;worry, anger and sadness.&nbsp;Stress levels, in particular, skyrocketed in 2020 with 40 per cent of all adults surveyed reporting a significant rise.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The&nbsp;Gallup 2021 Global Emotions Index says that this is the highest in 15 years. But the worst of this brunt was faced by women who were&nbsp;caring for young children at home during the pandemic.

The Gallup survey said that half of all the people who were working during the pandemic earned less money and 32% lost their jobs, all thanks to Covid-19.&nbsp;Overall, 80% of the people from the 116 countries surveyed said Covid-19 affected them in some way or the other.&nbsp;
In the span of a year, the percentage of people who said they smiled or laughed a lot the previous day also dropped from 75% to 70%, which is incidentally the lowest measure Gallup has ever recorded for this&nbsp;question.&nbsp;

Stress and anxiety experienced at work can very often lead to&nbsp;extreme&nbsp;pressure, to a point that workers may begin to feel worn out, empty and exhausted.&nbsp;To tackle exhaustion and to prevent burnout, companies like LinkedIn and Bumble have taken a step towards finding a supposed solution.
In an attempt to avoid a &ldquo;collective breakdown&rdquo; and to fight work-related stress, these organisations have given their working staff a paid week off, known as a &ldquo;burnout break&rdquo;.&nbsp; This break comes as an opportunity to cut off from work and recover from the anxieties and frustration that comes with it. &nbsp;
But will burnout breaks be enough? While some feel that burnout breaks are a decent enough solution, others feel that it is a temporary fix. Because once the break has ended, everything will go back to square one and the endless cycle will begin all over again.&nbsp;
According to Fehmidah Munir, Professor of Health Psychology at Loughborough University, there is a need to come up with a more "systematic and comprehensive approach." The aim is to do away with the problems of extra workload, organise support for the ones who are suffering and also provide rehabilitation for those on long-term leave.
Companies need to look at the bigger and complete picture which includes not just policies but also a comfortable work culture that looks after the well-being of both the employers and the employees.

A new study shows a link between psychological stress and greying hair and claims that hair colour can be restored when stress is eliminated.

A study published in the journal eLife, shows strong evidence that psychological stress is linked to the greying of hair. The team also discovered that hair colour can be restored when stressors are removed.&nbsp;
For the analysis, the researchers asked participants to examine their schedules and rate their stress levels each week. Using a specially developed high-resolution scanning technique, hairs from the volunteers were analysed for signs of pigment loss. The scans revealed very small variations in color, showing that pigment loss doesn't&nbsp;always continue.

To better understand how stress produces grey hair, the team also measured levels of proteins in the hair and how they changed over the length of each hair. Using a mathematical model to expand their results across a greater number of people and ages, the team suggested that gray and white hairs can indeed regain their color in some circumstances.
It should be noted that grey and white hair is typically caused by the pigment cells in our hair follicles slowly dying as we get older, which means there's a lack of the pigment melanin.&nbsp;According to researchers, reducing stress in a 70-year-old whose hair has been grey for years will not darken their hair or increasing stress in a 10-year-old will not be enough to tip their hair over the grey threshold.
