"This activity bears a closer resemblance to what you might see from a spammer's playbook rather than the more stealthy and sophisticated Russian influence operations we have disrupted in the past," Meta head of security policy Nathaniel Gleicher said in a briefing.
Meta shares what it finds with researchers and other social networks to expose deception campaigns, he added.
After Russia invaded Ukraine a year ago this week, Meta took measures to prevent state news outlets from using its platform to spread misinformation or make money from bogus reports about the war, Gleicher recounted.
User engagement with Russian state news outlet misinformation dropped more than 80 percent, according to Meta.
"While overt activity by Russian state controlled media on our platforms has decreased, attempts at covert activity have increased sharply," said Meta president of global affairs Nick Clegg.
Last year, Meta took down two Russian covert influence campaigns that tried to hijack online exchanges about the war with comment from armies of fake accounts, according to Clegg.

Both operations targeted many social media platforms, including Telegram, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn, Meta reported.

The overstaffing was due to the expectation that the shift towards remote work would become permanent, however, a lot of companies found this to be unfeasible. As a result, these companies are now finding that they don't need as many employees as they had initially hired.
Additionally, as the economy has been affected by the pandemic, companies are now facing a softening of advertising revenue, as well as a potential recession, which has led many tech firms to cut back on spending, resulting in layoffs.

This means that companies often imitate what others are doing.&nbsp;
So, if a few major companies in a sector announce large-scale layoffs, the trend is likely to spread, like we&rsquo;re seeing in the tech industry right now.
Pfeffer supports his argument by giving an example from 2001, when after the 9/11 attacks in the USA, every airline except Southwest Airlines laid off employees.&nbsp;
Southwest Airlines, as a result, gained market share by not doing layoffs.
Even though there are various causes for the chain of mass layoffs in an industry - &nbsp;covid miscalculations, an imminent recession, and copycat behaviour appear to be the primary culprits in the current scenario.
As it turns out, economists predict that 2023 will be characterised by a modest recession and decelerating growth. This may result in companies decreasing their rate of employee additions.
So, if 2022 was bad, the new year doesn't look much better.

"She will move back to India to lead the India org and strategy. Communities lets users connect multiple groups together under one umbrella. Once you&rsquo;re in a community, you can easily switch between available groups to get the information you need, when you need it, and admins can send important updates to everyone in the Community.
Alongside communities, Whatsapp is also getting three more updates: the ability to create in-chat polls, 32 person video calling, and groups with up to 1024 users.&nbsp;
In the next few months, everyone will have access to WhatsApp's Communities feature, which is designed to assist employers, schools, local groups, and non-profit organisations.
On Android, the new Communities tab will appear at the top of users' chats, whereas on iOS, it will be at the bottom.
Communities would compete with WhatsApp's most formidable competitor, Telegram, and other private messaging apps, such as iMessage.&nbsp;
