Two Camera Beasts: iPhone 17 vs Pixel 10: Who Takes the Crown?

The iPhone 17 and Pixel 10 go head-to-head in a camera battle. The iPhone impresses with balanced shots, selfies & video, while the Pixel dominates zoom with its 5× telephoto. The winner? Depends on what you shoot most.

Two Camera Beasts: iPhone 17 vs Pixel 10: Who Takes the Crown?

But which one really delivers when you switch between ultra-wide, main, zoom, portrait, and selfie modes? Let’s dig in. If you’re into smartphone photography, there is a big showdown for you. Apple’s iPhone 17 and Google’s Pixel 10 both come loaded with serious camera hardware, these two are the best options out there. But which one really delivers when you switch between ultra-wide, main, zoom, portrait and selfie modes? Let’s dive in.

Core Specs: What’s Under the Hood

Before we get into the photos, here’s what each phone is packing.
iPhone comes with a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with silky smooth 120Hz ProMotion. The iPhone 17 is also equipped with a 48MP fusion main camera paired with a 48MP ultra wide that also doubles as a 2× optical-quality zoom lens. On the front, there’s an 18MP selfie camera with auto focus and for video, you can also shoot upto 4K Dolby Vision at 60FPS.
Pixel 10: Google went with a triple-lens setup—48 MP main with macro focus, 13 MP ultra-wide, and a dedicated 10.8 MP telephoto lens capable of 5× optical zoom. On the front, there’s a 10.5 MP selfie shooter. Powering it all is the new Tensor G5 chip paired with 12 GB RAM, starting at 128 GB storage.

Mode by Mode: How They Stack Up

Ultra-Wide / 0.5×

Both phones deliver wide shots with solid depth of field and good dynamic range. The Pixel captures plenty of area, but the iPhone pulls ahead with cleaner distortion correction and more consistent colors.

Main Camera / 1×
This is the sweet spot for both. The iPhone 17’s 48 MP main sensor nails detail and adds a touch of boosted color thanks to Smart HDR. The Pixel 10 counters with equally sharp results but stays closer to natural tones.

Zoom / Telephoto
At 2×, the Pixel 10 produces crisp, detailed shots, though colors can sometimes drift. The iPhone’s 2× is vibrant and lively, but it doesn’t have true optical zoom beyond that. If zooming past 2× matters to you, the Pixel’s 5× telephoto lens is the clear winner.

Portrait Mode & Bokeh
Edge detection is always the test, and both phones handle it really well. The iPhone 17 does a great job keeping hair, ears, and shoulders sharp with a smooth blur behind. The Pixel’s portraits look slightly more natural, with less of that “digitally processed” feel.

Selfies & Front Camera
The iPhone’s 18 MP selfie camera consistently delivers great skin tones and reliable HDR, even in tricky lighting. The Pixel 10’s 10.5 MP front camera is strong too, but it struggles a bit more in harsh contrast situations.

Verdict: The Camera Crown

Both phones are seriously good no question about it. If zoom lens is your top priority, the Pixel 10’s telephoto lens gives it a big advantage. But for balanced everyday portraits, selfies, and especially video, the iPhone 17 feels like the more polished all-rounder.
At the end of the day, it comes down to what you shoot most: Pixel 10 for zoom lovers, iPhone 17 for everyone else.
