OnePlus OxygenOS 14 based on Android 14 announced: Check new features, supported devices

OnePlus has announced OxygenOS 14, a major software update based on the upcoming Android 14.

This move puts OnePlus ahead of Google itself, as the tech giant is yet to officially release the next major version of Android.

With OxygenOS 14, select OnePlus phones will be the first to receive Android 14 features, including the highly anticipated Security Center and numerous other proprietary enhancements.

OxygenOS 14 Trinity Engine

At the heart of OxygenOS 14 lies the Trinity Engine, a proprietary software platform that embodies the synergy between powerful hardware, intelligent software, and an optimal user experience.

The Trinity Engine introduces six key optimiSations:

  • CPU Vitalization: Prioritises CPU resource scheduling to strike the ideal balance between performance and efficiency.
  • ROM Vitalization: Maximises storage lifespan with compression algorithms, file defragmentation, and memory acceleration techniques.
  • RAM Vitalization: Enhances boot times, app startups, and app switching while providing up to 10% overall UI smoothness through various technological advancements.
  • HyperTouch: Delivers improved touch response times and helps prevent mistouches.
  • HyperBoost: Enhances gaming experiences by minimising power consumption and heat dissipation through adaptive performance mode and other techniques.
  • HyperRendering: Utilises frame interpolation to enhance picture quality in games, surpassing hardware limitations.

OxygenOS 14 Other New Features

OxygenOS 14 introduces several features designed to enhance productivity and elevate user experiences:

  1. File Dock: A versatile sidebar accessible system-wide, allowing users to effortlessly save and access text, images, links, and files. It can be accessed not only on OnePlus phones but also on tablets and PCs.
  2. Notes 2.0: Upgraded with customizable features such as background colour, fonts, and font sizes, alongside additional functionalities like image insertion, underlining, strikethrough, split lines, and improved find and search capabilities.
  3. Smart Cutout: A feature reminiscent of the Cutout Tool on iOS, Smart Cutout enables users to isolate and cut out subjects from images. These elements can then be easily copy-pasted or shared.
  4. Multi-screen Connect 2.0: Seamlessly connects OnePlus phones and tablets with OxygenOS 14, allowing users to share items and work across devices. It can even automatically reconnect previously-paired devices.
  5. Clone Phone 2.0: Streamlines the transfer of network and account settings, as well as data from apps like the Wallet app and OnePlus watch settings, from older OnePlus devices to new ones.

OxygenOS 14 also prioritises user security and privacy with Android 14's Security & Privacy Center. This comprehensive hub offers a centralised location for managing all related settings.

Additionally, the update provides protection against illegal attacks and introduces an "Ask every time" permission pop-up for photos and videos.

It includes the Auto Pixelate feature, which automatically pixelates sensitive information like personal images, contact details, and credit card numbers, ensuring privacy. The built-in chip enables password management through NFC and encryption.

Refined Aquamorphic Design

With OxygenOS 14, OnePlus introduces the Aquamorphic UI's Fluid Cloud feature, which displays notifications in a fluid and merging manner through bubbles, capsules, and panels.

The UI also incorporates new nature sounds, three Earth-related AOD (Always-on Display) modes, and dynamically changing background colours to enhance user interactions and overall visual appeal.
