Fans have been comparing the historical show to cult HBO series 'Game of Thrones', saying that the two shows have very similar aesthetics and colour tone, and are also similar in their treatment and cinematography.

Now, actor Kunal Kapoor who plays the role of Mughal emperor Babur on the show, has weighed in on the debate.

In an interview to entertainment portal SpotBoyE, the actor said, that he feels these are unnecessary comparisons. Kunal added that whenever a good period drama comes out, it will be compared to some show or the other.

Kunal went on to say, that some fans will say the show is like Bollywood films Padmaavat, Bajirao [Mastaani] or Game Of Thrones, but 'The Empire' has a completely different story.

Kunal said, if people are comparing the scale of the show to Game of Thrones, then its great, but apart from that, there are no other similarities between the two.

Interestingly, Dino Morea's character on the show, Shehbani Khan, has also been compared to Alauddin Khilji's character from Padmaavat, played by Ranveer Singh.

Earlier, Dino had said that these comparisons don't bother him as Ranveer did a great job as Khilji, but he has brought his own madness to the character in 'The Empire'.

'The Empire' is based on the book series 'Empire of the Moghul' by Alex Rutherford. It traces the life of Mughal emperor Babur and his journey from a child king to the ruler of the Mughal Empire in India.

If you haven't started watching 'The Empire', on Disney + Hotstar, go check it out and decide for yourself.
