Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Review: Hello, my familiar friend!

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is a familiar phone which inherits the iconic S Pen from the retired Galaxy Note range while still retaining the powerful cameras of the flagship Galaxy S line-up. Is it worth upgrading from the S21 Ultra?

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Review: Hello, my familiar friend!

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra inherits the iconic S Pen from the retired Galaxy Note range while still retaining the powerful cameras of the flagship Galaxy S line-up. If you've used a Note phone in the recent past then you know what to expect - from the rectangular shape to the squared-off corners and curved edges, this phone looks a lot like the Note 20 Ultra that was launched nearly two years ago. The design has been somewhat updated though, with the camera bump being banished in favour of individual lenses that are more flush with the back of the handset. Galaxy S22 Ultra flaunts a huge 6.8-inch WQHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display with 120Hz Adaptive refresh rate. The display also gets a notable brightness upgrade with the S22 Ultra capable of reaching 1,750 nits in direct sunlight.

Galaxy S22 Ultra specs include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, coupled with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. On the back, the Galaxy S22 Ultra features a 108MP main sensor, a 12-MP ultra-wide option, and a pair of 10MP telephoto lenses with 3x and 10x optical zoom respectively. The front camera is a 40MP high resolution sensor. This year’s improvements are mostly software-based with a particular emphasis on low light and portrait photography. Video recording capabilities still max out at 8K/24fps for the main camera and 4K/60p for the front camera. S22 Ultra battery is a large 5,000mAh unit with support for 45W wired fast charging. The phone ships with Android 12 and the latest One UI 4.1. Samsung promises the S22 series will support up to four generations of Android OS updates. S22 Ultra price in India starts at ₹1,09,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant, while the 12GB + 512GB variant costs ₹1,18,999. Watch how the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra performed in our review on Editorji.
