Covishield not part of ‘vaccine passport’; Govt to take up issue

Covishield may not be part of the 'green pass' the 'vaccine passport' list for the European Union as per reports. The govt is likely to take up the issue with EU that is sighting technical specification that the pass will be limited to “vaccines that have received EU-wide marketing authorization”, which Covishield does not have.
AstraZeneca-manufactured Vaxzevria vaccine has been approved by EMA, but Covishield which is manufactured by SII does not have EMA approval.

Reports indicate that ministry of external affairs (MEA) has already raised the matter with the EU drug regulator - the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla also tweeted to reassure Covishield-vaccinated Indians that he has "taken this up at the highest levels, with regulators and at a diplomatic level with countries."
