The Netherlands produced a sensational comeback in a fairytale fashion, led by all-rounder Bas de Leede, as they defeated Scotland by four wickets to secure a spot in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. De Leede's remarkable innings of 123 runs off 92 balls, supported by Saqib Zulfiqar's unbeaten 33, paved the way for the Netherlands' qualification within 42.5 overs, surpassing the target of 278 required in 44 overs.

This marks the fifth time that the Netherlands have qualified for the prestigious 50-over global event, having previously participated in the 1996, 2003, 2007, and 2011 editions. The team's captain, Scott Edwards, expressed his amazement at De Leede and Zulfiqar's exceptional performance during the final overs of the match.

"This group is just incredible. We put in the hard work, and the guys enjoy everyone's success. It's a pretty awesome feeling. It was just unbelievable batting by Leede and Saqib in the end," Edwards said emotionally.

Coincidentally, De Leede's father, Tim de Leede, was a vital member of the Netherlands team during the first three world tournaments. With this crucial victory, the Netherlands surpassed Scotland and Zimbabwe in net run-rate to secure their spot as the second qualifying team with a net run-rate of +0.230.

The upcoming final match against Sri Lanka holds little significance, except for determining the Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 classifications. Scotland, initially favored to secure the second spot after Sri Lanka, posted a total of 277 for 9, thanks to an impressive century by Brendon McMullen and a 137-run partnership with skipper Richie Berrington.

In response, the Netherlands showcased an extraordinary performance, with De Leede excelling as a right-arm medium pacer, achieving his maiden five-wicket haul, limiting Scotland to under 300 runs. During the chase, De Leede's arrival in the 15th over proved pivotal, as he played a significant role in guiding his team to victory.

Credit should also be given to Saqib Zulfiqar for his contribution in the successful run chase, forming a dynamic 113-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Throughout the tournament, the Netherlands has displayed resilience, tying a colossal score of 374 and securing a win in the Super Over against the West Indies.

Reflecting on his team's performance, Bas de Leede shared, "The rate was 10 to 11 runs per over, so we had to go into T20 mode, score as many runs as we could, and see where it would take us. It's amazing, can't describe the feeling, it's going to be one big party tonight."

The qualifying matches in Zimbabwe witnessed intense competition, with Sri Lanka standing out as the dominant team. However, the Netherlands defied expectations and emerged victorious, achieving a remarkable milestone in their cricketing journey.
