Alyssa Healy, one of the finest cricketers to have played for Australia, will retire from the game following the home series against India in March. The 35-year-old will lead the Australian team one final time in the three ODIs and the one-off women's Test in Perth.
Healy won't be part of the T20s against India as she will not be around for the T20 World Cup in the UK later this year.
&ldquo;It's with mixed emotions that the upcoming India series will be my last for Australia," Healy, one of the most destructive batters in the women's game, said in a statement. "I'm still passionate about playing for Australia but I've somewhat lost that competitive edge that's kept me driven since the start, so the time feels right to call it a day.
&ldquo;Knowing I won't be going to the T20 World Cup this year and the limited preparation time the team has, I won't be part of the T20s against India, but I'm excited to have the opportunity to finish my career and captain the ODI and Test side at home against India &mdash; one of the biggest series on the calendar for us."
Healy has played an integral role in Australia's domination over the past decade. Considering she has won eight world titles, six in the T20 format and two in one-day cricket, losing the semifinals to eventual winners in the ODI World Cup last year was a disappointing outcome for Healy and her team.
The wicket-keeper batter has represented Australia in 10 Tests, 123 ODIs and 162 T20 Internationals. She has so far scored 489 Test runs at an average of 30.56, 3563 ODI runs at 35.98 with seven hundreds, and 3054 T20I runs at 25.45 with one century.
"I'll genuinely miss my teammates, singing the team song and walking out to open the batting for Australia. Representing my country has been an incredible honour and I'm grateful for one last series in the green and gold," said Healy.
In a podcast on Tuesday, Healy said dealing with injuries over the past few years took a mental toll on her. "A few injuries, (I had) to dive into the well a couple of times and that well was getting less and less full of water, so it was getting harder to dive back in there.
"I've always felt like I've had a competitive edge in that I want to compete, I want to win and I want to challenge myself on the park. I've felt as I've got a little bit older, I've not necessarily lost all of it, but I've lost some of that."
"I think the WBBL (last year) was probably a bit of a wake-up call. Not being able to hold the bat with two hands didn't help either, but waking up and going, 'just another day of cricket,' really surprised myself because I still thought I loved playing the game," said the cricketer married to Australia pacer Mitchell Starc.
Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg called Healy one of the all-time greats of the game. "Alyssa is one of the all-time greats of the game and has made an immeasurable contribution both on and off the field over her 15-year career.
"On behalf of Australian cricket, I'd like to thank Alyssa and congratulate her on an incredible career that has inspired so many and changed the game for the better. We look forward to celebrating her achievements throughout the series against India," said Greenberg.

"Washington has been ruled out due to onset on discomfort in his left lower rib area," a BCCI official told PTI.&nbsp;
Washington is the third Indian player to pick up an injury, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the ongoing series after suffering a side strain last week while Tilak Varma is unavailable for the first three T20Is against New Zealand due to a groin injury which required surgery.&nbsp;
India ODI captain Shubman Gill had given a an update on Washington following India's win on Sunday.&nbsp;

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has an affinity for all-rounders and fast bowler Harshit Rana has confirmed that the team management has asked him to work on improving his batting skills.
Rana played a vital role in India's four-wicket victory in the opening ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara on Sunday, taking a couple of wickets at the top to derail the Kiwis' progress and chipped in with a vital 29 off 23 late in the chase.
Rana batted ahead of an injured Washington Sundar, who suffered from a side strain, putting his availability in doubt for the second ODI on Wednesday.
"The team management wants to groom me as an all-rounder and it is my task to keep working on it," Rana told reporters here. "I am working on it in the nets as well, and it was a matter of confidence which KL (Rahul) bhai helped me with when I went in (to bat). I kept my focus on it and made the runs," he added.
With premier all-rounder Hardik Pandya not available for the ODI series, India's playing eleven featured both Ravindra Jadeja and Washington in the opening ODI, whereas the team combinations in other formats now regularly feature more than one all-rounder.
Both Pandya and Shivam Dube played four games each in India's five-match T20I series against South Africa last month, whereas the playing elevens for the two-Test series which the hosts lost 0-2, featured at least three all-rounders each in both matches including Jadeja, Washington, Axar Patel and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Playing multiple all-rounders in the Test side following the crushing loss was criticised heavily by former Indian pacer and KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad, who had expressed that "the all-rounder obsession is absolute brain-fade".
The idea of having so many all-round players as possible can be gauged with the fact that specialist batters Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma and even Abhishek Sharma have rolled their arms over for India and they bowl in their domestic appearances as well.
In the build-up to the second ODI against South Africa last month, both Jaiswal and Tilak were seen putting in equal time in the nets to hone their skills as a batter and a bowler.
After he helped India win the Asia Cup T20, the world No 1 T20I bowler Varun Chakravarthy had told the media that the head coach has asked him to work on his batting skills, for bolstering his chances for selection in ODI team where he gets picked on as-per-need basis.
"My team wants me to bat at No 8 as an all-rounder and whatever time I can give to it in the nets, I focus on that. I believe I can score 30-40 runs for the team lower down the order whenever needed and that&rsquo;s what the team management believes that I can do as well," Rana added.
Rana put on 37 runs for the sixth wicket to stabilise India's innings in the chase with Rahul, after they lost Virat Kohli (93), Jadeja (4) and Shreyas Iyer (49) in quick succession.
"Till Virat bhai was there it felt that the match would end early, maybe with 5-6 overs to spare but a game of cricket can change anytime and you cannot predict it."
When asked if the Indian bowlers struggle to take wickets upfront with the new ball in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Rana retorted by saying the troika of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and he bowled well.
"I don&rsquo;t know what cricket you are watching, even today if we did not get the (early) wickets, Siraj bhai bowled really well. We did not give away a lot of runs either with the new ball," he said.
"But these things happen, if you do not get wickets early on then you will get them later, which is what we did. There are different phases in ODI cricket."
"I felt that the pitch was slow, there wasn&rsquo;t much bounce either,&rdquo; Rana added.

Virat Kohli reigned supreme once again with a 91-ball 93 and skipper Shubman Gill hit 56 but India huffed and puffed before completing a nervy four-wicket win against New Zealand in the opening ODI of the three-match series in Vadodara on Sunday.
In pursuit of 301, India were in complete control when Kohli departed in the 40th over but a flurry of wickets saw the home side going over the line with 306 for six in 49 overs.
Kohli fell a few runs short of what could have been his 54th ODI century when India needed 67 from 66 balls with seven wickets in hand. Ravindra Jadeja (4) and Shreyas Iyer (49) followed him soon in the dressing room, giving New Zealand a real chance to clinch the game.
However, KL Rahul (29 not out) put on 37 runs with Harshit Rana (29), and the remaining runs came in company of an injury-hit Washington Sundar (7 not out), aided by a few uncharacteristic dropped catches by the Kiwis towards the end.
It was Kyle Jamieson (4/41) who dragged New Zealand back in the game when all seemed lost, getting Kohli caught at mid-on to deny the India batting stalwart a deserving ton. He also cleaned up Iyer with an off-cutter and got rid of Jadeja.
Even as he fell a few runs short of a century, Kohli became the quickest to reach 28,000 runs in international cricket and now only the second behind the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, going past Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara.
New Zealand had posed an at-par 300/8 but with Kohli in such imperious form, it never was enough especially with a depleted bowling attack.
If he didn&rsquo;t refrain from hitting over the top early on against South Africa, Kohli pulverised the Kiwis from the moment he arrived on the crease with a flurry of fours. There was that trademark planted front foot for a majestical on-drive to pull behind the short fine leg for a four.
And if the 23-year-old Adithya Ashok was star-struck, Kohli pummelled boundaries off the leg-spinner to make another brisk start. There was a stroke of luck involved too.
Batting on a &lsquo;different level&rsquo; by his own admission, Kohli went hard on a full delivery from debutant Kristian Clarke and an inside edge missed the leg stump.
Kohli added 118 runs off 102 balls for the second wicket with Gill, and the pair went nonchalantly about their task even if no boundary was found for 52 balls at a stretch.
The drought was ended by Gill when he hit one down the ground, which almost cleared the ropes. The Indian skipper took time to find his groove to bring up his 16th half-century in ODIs but as the innings progressed, Gill also struggled, possibly with cramps.
Having stretched his legs a few times, he called the team physiotherapist for some on-field treatment. But the break seemed to have broken the momentum at least for Gill, who hit a googly from rookie leg-spinner Adithya straight to mid-off, walking away for a 71-ball 56 with three fours and two sixes.
The right-handed opener, who had missed the majority of the home series against South Africa, would&rsquo;ve been pleased with his returns which included a spectacular straight drive and a powerful sweep for a six over deep square leg.
The chase began with a few tight overs before Rohit Sharma (26) took the initiative as Gill showed no intention to attack early on.
Having put away a wide ball for a four past point, Rohit picked one off Zakary Foulkes over square leg, and danced down to hit Jamieson over mid-on for another, taking his tally to 650 sixes in international cricket.
However, Jamieson appeared to have followed Rohit who moved away from wickets to clear the infield, but his bat twisted inside at the time of connection and he was dismissed in the ninth over.
Earlier, Daryl Mitchell stood tall with a stroke-filled half-century to help New Zealand post 300 for eight.
Mitchell, ranked world No. 3 behind India superstars Kohli and Rohit, lived up to expectations with a gritty knock which gave New Zealand a much-needed impetus amid middle order collapse.
Mitchell clobbered five fours and three sixes to make 84 off 71 balls after New Zealand middle order failed to build on an ideal start given by Devon Conway (56 off 67 balls; 6 fours, 1 six) and Henry Nicholls (62 off 69 balls; 8 fours).
Openers Conway and Nicholls had put on 117 runs to defy India for the first 21 overs, but Harshit Rana&rsquo;s (2/65) second spell of 2-0-13-2 turned the tables and the home side chipped away with regular strikes.
New Zealand skidded from 117 for no loss in the 22nd over to 198 for five in the 38th.
But Mitchell forged vital stands to come to their rescue, while debutant Kristian Clarke struck three late fours to make 17-ball 24 not out.

Former Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal has urged the country's Cricket Board to avoid being driven by "public emotion" while deciding the national team's participation in next month's T20 World Cup in India as any such call would have an "impact 10 years down the line".&nbsp;
Bangladesh have expressed reluctance to tour India for the event starting February 7 and want their matches to be shifted to co-host Sri Lanka, citing security concerns.
This was after Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was released from IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders on instructions of the BCCI for unspecified reasons amid attacks on Hindus in the country.&nbsp;
"The situation is a bit critical at the moment, and making a sudden comment right now is difficult. But one thing you must keep in mind is that many issues can often be resolved through dialogue if everyone comes together," Tamim was quoted as saying by 'Cricbuzz'. "You have to consider where Bangladesh stands in world cricket and what the future of Bangladesh cricket could be and then make decisions accordingly," he said.&nbsp;
Bangladesh sports ministry advisor Asif Nazrul has taken a hard-line position on the change of venue, citing national pride and continuing a rising anti-India sentiment in the government corridors. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has mostly seconded the view amid murmurs that the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led BCB is not fully aligned with that approach.&nbsp;
"We consider the Bangladesh Cricket Board an independent body. Of course, the government plays a very big role, and discussions with the government are necessary. But if we consider the BCB an independent body, then it must also have the authority to make its own decisions," said Tamim.
"If the board feels a certain decision is right, then it should take that decision. Public opinion will always vary. When we play, spectators say many things driven by emotion. But if you start making decisions based on all that, you cannot run such a big organization. "Today's decisions will have an impact ten years down the line, so decisions should be taken by considering what is best for Bangladesh cricket and for Bangladeshi players - that is what I personally believe," he added.&nbsp;
No need for daily statements&nbsp;
The 36-year-old Tamim, who has played 70 Tests, 243 ODIs and 78 T20 Internationals for his country in a fairly accomplished career, was also critical of the daily statements that have been coming from the BCB and the Bangladesh government.&nbsp;
"After taking a final decision and completing internal discussions, that decision should then be communicated publicly. If you announce every step publicly, it creates unnecessary uncertainty, which is what has happened now," he said.
"If a decision changes tomorrow, or a week later, and becomes something else, then how will you explain your initial comment?" he asked. "Whatever the final decision is, I only hope that Bangladesh cricket's interests are prioritized above everything else, and that the future of Bangladesh cricket is carefully considered before taking that decision," he concluded.&nbsp;

"Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of former India Batting Coach Vikram Rathour as the Batting Coach of the Sri Lanka National Team. "He has been appointed on a consultancy basis, with a primary focus on the team&rsquo;s preparation for the ICC Men's T20I World Cup 2026," Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.&nbsp;
Rathour will assume charge on January 18 and will remain with the team until March 10.&nbsp;
Rathour is also a former India international who represented the country in six Tests and seven ODIs.&nbsp;
The 56-year-old served as the India batting coach from September 2019 to July 2024. He is a BCCI level 3 coach. In the IPL, he is part of Rajasthan Royals' support staff.&nbsp;

The England and Wales Cricket Board said it had launched an immediate and "thorough" review following the tourists' defeat in the fifth and final Ashes Test on Thursday.
England's preparations, coaching and off-field behaviour all came under the microscope during a demoralising series in Australia which they lost 4-1.
As soon as the series was over, ECB chief executive Richard Gould released a statement calling the team's failure to regain the Ashes "deeply disappointing".
Gould said there were "moments of strong performance and resilience", notably victory in the fourth Test in Melbourne, which saved England from a humiliating series whitewash.
But he said: "We were not consistent enough across all conditions and phases of the contest and Australia ultimately deserved to retain the Ashes.
"We will take many lessons from this tour and are determined to improve quickly. Our focus is on regaining the Ashes in 2027.
"A thorough review of the campaign is already under way.
"This will cover tour planning and preparation, individual performance and behaviours, and our ability to adapt and respond effectively as circumstances require."
While captain Ben Stokes appears safe from the axe, the roles of head of cricket Rob Key and coach Brendon McCullum are set to come under the microscope.
British media, including the BBC, have reported that Key and McCullum are likely to survive to show they can make improvements to the England set-up.
"We will implement the necessary changes over the coming months," Gould added.
England's next Test assignment is not until June, at home to New Zealand.
Coming up fast is the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next month when McCullum will expect to be in charge of the squad, which will be captained by Harry Brook.

England arrived for their long tour in November confident of a first series win in Australia since 2010-11.
But they quickly imploded, despite facing a depleted attack missing key quicks Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins.
A two-day defeat in Perth by eight wickets and another by the same margin at the pink-ball clash in Brisbane left them reeling and in the firing line at home.
An 82-run loss in Adelaide meant the Ashes were over within three Tests, with England's ultra-aggressive "Bazball" style ruthlessly exposed by the Australian conditions.
Stokes, who was a rare bright spot for England, intends to continue as captain.
"Definitely, I'm as keen as anything to carry on," he said after defeat in the fifth and final Test in Sydney by five wickets.
England at least won the fourth Test in Melbourne to avoid a whitewash.
"I've loved having a challenge thrown at me," said Stokes.
"And at the moment the challenge is getting the team back to where we once were in terms of the performances that we were delivering."
They will face an inquisition when they get home with the England Cricket Board under pressure to act.
Stokes said he expected New Zealander McCullum to still be in the job when they next play a Test in June.
"I do expect him to be, but that's not my decision. If I'm asked my opinion, he'll be getting my full support and backing," he said.
"I absolutely love working with Baz. He's a great man and he's a very, very, very good coach."
McCullum agreed there were "areas to improve" but said he won't be told what to do.
"I will look at it individually and say, 'What could I have done better?'," he told the BBC.
"Am I for being told what to do? Of course I am not."
 - Glimpse of hope -
Whoever remains in the fallout, Stokes acknowledged they had a lot of work ahead of them.
"We could have played much better than what we did," he said.
"The time for reflection is not right now. We've got a long time away to reflect on it. Come June when we next play, hopefully we can put the wrongs right."
Despite the heavy series defeat there were a few plus points for England, who lost fast bowlers Mark Wood, Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson to injury at various points.
Seamer Josh Tongue came in and was admirable while 22-year-old Jacob Bethell produced a magnificent 154 in Sydney after replacing the out-of-form Ollie Pope.
"Incredible for Beth to get his opportunity in the last game of the series," said Stokes.
"To come out in the fifth game of the series and the way he batted was a terrific effort.
"Josh also put in his best and bowled really well so we have good talents coming through."

Royal Challengers Bengaluru has proposed installing AI-enabled cameras at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium at its own cost to improve crowd management and retain IPL matches in Bengaluru.

Desperate to ensure that IPL matches are not taken away from the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise has proposed the installation of 300-350 AI-enabled cameras at the venue and offered to bear the estimated cost of Rs 4.50 crore for this crowd management initiative.
RCB has made the proposal in an official communication to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
&ldquo;RCB has proposed the installation of 300 to 350 AI-enabled cameras at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. RCB has further committed to bearing the entire one-time cost of this initiative, estimated at approximately Rs 4.5 crore,&rdquo; the franchise said in a release.
&ldquo;The advanced surveillance technology will empower the KSCA and law enforcement agencies to efficiently manage crowd movement, ensure disciplined queueing, monitor unauthorised access through real-time tracking of entries and exits, and significantly enhance overall fan safety,&rdquo; the franchise added.
All cricket was halted at the Chinnaswamy after 11 fans were killed in a stampede outside the venue during RCB's IPL trophy celebrations last year.
A state government-constituted task force is scheduled to submit its report on Saturday after monitoring the safety enhancement work currently in progress at the stadium premises.
The investigation had blamed the lack of crowd management measures for the deadly stampede on June 4 when lakhs thronged the venue to take part in RCB's celebrations.
It had held RCB responsible for the chaos, saying the franchise encouraged fans to come out in numbers despite not having necessary clearances from civic and law enforcement agencies.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, RCB announced compensation for the families of the victims and set up a foundation to connect with the fans.
For its latest proposal, the franchise said it has partnered with Staqu, a company which it said has a proven track record in enhancing public safety through automation and data-driven intelligence.
Staqu has listed Bihar Police and the Election Commission of India as its clients on its official website.
The success stories that the company has posted include a past collaboration with Uttar Pradesh Prison and Administrative Reform Services to centralise the video feeds from over 3000 CCTV cameras in more than 60 jails at a command centre for review of security breaches, violence, overcrowding and unauthorised access.
&ldquo;Staqu's state-of-the-art facial recognition technology and intelligent monitoring of objects, crowd, perimeters and vehicles has assisted many State Police forces in their regular monitoring and investigations,&rdquo; said RCB.
&ldquo;The integration of this advanced technology will elevate crowd management standards and reinforce a safe, secure and seamless matchday experience for all fans,&rdquo; the team asserted.
The AI-driven real-time camera system relies on video, audio and text data, enabling match-day security forces to detect unauthorised access and intrusion to take preventive measures well in advance.
If the venue does not receive essential permission from government agencies to hold IPL 2026 matches, the RCB management is thinking of taking its home matches to Raipur and Pune.
A venue is required to be handed over to the authorities at least a month before the start of the IPL, and this edition of the league is tentatively scheduled to start March 26.
Before that, the country would be hosting the T20 World Cup from February 7 and the Chinnaswamy has not been able to bag a single game for that either after failing to obtain necessary NOCs.
The global event's final is scheduled for March 8.

Bangladesh's aggrieved cricketers called off their boycott "in the greater interest of the game" after the country's Cricket Board (BCB) and the players' welfare association arrived at a consensus, leading to the resumption of the scheduled BPL T20 matches on Friday.
The BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) on Thursday stared at the prospect of its flagship T20 league coming to a halt after senior national players revolted against director Najmul Islam for his disparaging comments against them.
The BCB went on damage control mode and removed Najmul as head of its finance committee, a move that may have helped bring the situation under control for the time being.
Bangladesh's Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) president Mohammad Mithun said they had to "compromise on some things" for the sake of the players.
Mithun, who was flanked by BCB director Iftekhar Rahman at a press conference at the board premises late Thursday night, said, "Keeping the greater interest of cricket in mind, we will resume playing tomorrow (on Friday).
"They (the BCB) have assured us that they will reach out to him (BCB director M Nazmul Islam) and fulfil our demands as early as possible."
The two BPL matches which were abandoned on Thursday -- Chattogram Royals vs Noakhali Express and Rajshahi Warriors vs Sylhet Titans in Dhaka -- are now being played on Friday.
The match between Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express is in progress.
Earlier on Thursday, despite the removal of Najmul from the key BCB post, two matches of the BPL scheduled on the day were postponed.
The furore started after Najmul, while reiterating Bangladesh's refusal to travel to India for next month's T20 World Cup on account of "security worries", rejected concerns surrounding players' remuneration should the country withdraw.
He stated that the players would not be compensated as they have not justified the support so far, having failed to win a single ICC event.
The comments caused an outrage with CWAB calling for his immediate ouster from BCB.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday issued a showcause notice to its director M Najmul Islam for his remarks against the country's players amid an ongoing standoff with India and expressed hope that the outraged cricketers would withdraw their boycott threat that might disrupt its flagship T20 league.
Toss has been delayed in Thursday's Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) game between Naokhali Express and Chattogram Royals here and media reports said it was because neither of the two teams have reached the venue. The players have threatened to boycott all cricket unless Islam resigns.
"The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) reiterates its regret over the recent objectionable comments made by a member of the Board. The BCB acknowledges the concern caused by the remarks and wishes to reaffirm its commitment to professionalism, respect for cricketers and the values that nurture the game of cricket," the BCB stated in a press release.
"...the Board has already initiated formal disciplinary proceedings against the Board member concerned. A show-cause letter has been issued, and the individual has been instructed to submit a written response within 48 hours," it added.

Najmul had earlier described former captain Tamim Iqbal as an "agent of India" after he called for a restrained handling of the standoff with India, warning that decisions taken today would have impact 10 years down the line.
The Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) had stated that the statement from Najmul was "utterly condemnable".

Indian spinners were out-bowled on home turf once again and KL Rahul&rsquo;s unbeaten ton was eclipsed by Daryl Mitchell&rsquo;s splendid 131 not out as New Zealand levelled the three-match series 1-1 with a seven-wicket win in the second ODI in Rajkot on Wednesday.
New Zealand not only adapted but also executed better than India on a sluggish wicket here at the Niranjan Shah Stadium to keep the hosts to 284/7 despite Rahul&rsquo;s 91-ball 112 not out (9 fours, 1 six), and overhauled the target in 47.3 overs to end at 286 for three.
The series-deciding third ODI will be played in Indore on Sunday.
Young and Mitchell, among the architects of New Zealand&rsquo;s 3-0 Test series win over India on their previous visit, batted with poise and control even as the asking rate hovered over six an over.
They cruised at a little above five during their second-wicket association which consumed 152 balls for 162 runs, and there wasn&rsquo;t any late hiccup to prevent a turnaround.
Young&rsquo;s (87 from 98 balls; 7 fours) solidity in the middle was complemented by the adroitness of Mitchell, who brought out almost all kinds of sweep shots to notch up his third ton against India and overall eighth, finishing at 131 not out from 117 balls (11 fours, 2 sixes).
New Zealand&rsquo;s triumph in a 50-overs match also took the spotlight back onto a problem which India have faced in Tests for about two years now, with the home team&rsquo;s spin attack being outmatched by that of the visitors, albeit that's been mostly in red-ball cricket.
Debutant left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox, summoned on this trip as replacement of Mitchell Santner, kept a tight leash on Indian batters returning 10-0-42-1 while Kuldeep Yadav (10-0-82-1) kept bowling short and failed to give the ball a flight despite repeated messages from Rahul behind the wickets.
And when Kuldeep did give it a flight and forced a mishit, Prasidh Krishna dropped a regulation chance at long-on in the 36th over to give Mitchell a lifeline on 80.
Kuldeep finally broke the third-wicket stand dismissing Young and Mohammed Siraj pinned Mitchell leg-before soon after, but the decision was overturned via DRS as there was an inside edge.
With Michael Bracewell also returning a tidy 1/34 from his 10 overs earlier, the collective return from visiting spinners was of 89 runs for two wickets in 23 overs including Glenn Phillips&rsquo; 3-0-13-0.
On their part, Kuldeep and Ravindra Jadeja (8-0-44-0) gave away 1/126 from their collective 18 overs.
New Zealand also held their ground firm when Harshit Rana (1/52) and Siraj steamed in with the new ball to create immense pressure, reaching 34/1 after the powerplay.
In particular, Rana asked the Kiwis a lot of questions and also dismantled Devon Conway&rsquo;s off-stump, who had cracked three fours early on for a positive start.
Earlier, KL Rahul held a faltering innings together on a sluggish surface with a gutsy hundred.
Rahul produced a gritty unbeaten 112 off 92 balls which included 11 fours and two sixes, forging vital partnerships in the second half and snatching control from the Kiwis who had ran through India&rsquo;s formidable batting line-up earlier.
New Zealand had seized control with discipline and some stroke of luck as India had slipped from 99 for one to 118 for four before the halfway mark.
The other major contribution from captain Shubman Gill (56 off 53), who collected his second half-century in as many games.
A mishit each proved to be costly for the Indian leadership pair of Gill and Shreyas Iyer (8).
Gill had adjusted well to the nature of the pitch to gain pace, striking nine fours and a six over fine leg with a short-arm jab.
But he failed to read a slow and short ball rammed into the pitch by Kyle Jamieson and meekly pulled it straight to Mitchell for an easy grab at midwicket.
Iyer fell cheaply when he hit one straight off Clarke to Bracewell at mid-off.
However, silence befell on the festive crowd at the Niranjan Shah Stadium when an innocuous delivery outside the off-stump took a thick inside edge and left Virat Kohli&rsquo;s (23) middle stump flattened.
Kohli had begun with a first-ball four but regular wickets at the other end perhaps affected the rhythm with which he has been batting of late, as he had tried to guide the ball behind the wickets but played it on.
With India in need of stability, local hero Ravindra Jadeja (27) walked out amid loud cheers and played his part well in a 73-run stand for the fifth wicket with Rahul.

At 37, this marks his return to number one position for the first time since July 2021, while former India skipper Rohit has slipped to third spot.
India defeated the Black Caps by four wickets on Sunday with Kohli scoring a 91-ball 93, which also made him the second-highest run-getter in men's international cricket behind Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli's recent performances in ODIs have been nothing short of phenomenal. He scored an unbeaten 74 against Australia, 135, 102 and 65 not out against the visiting South Africans, and 93 against New Zealand in his last five outings.
Kohli had gained the top ranking for the first time in October 2013, and it is his 11th different spell in the top spot. As of today, he has been at the top for a total of 825 days &ndash; 10th most by any player, and the most by an Indian batter.
India's ODI skipper Shubman Gill has maintained his fifth spot, while Shreyas Iyer is the other Indian batter in the top-10.
New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell has gained a spot following his blazing 84 off 71 in the first ODI, and is just one rating point behind Kohli, who is on 785. Mitchell's teammate Devon Conway climbed three spots to secure the 29th position as he continues to score runs at the top.
India pacer Mohammed Siraj has risen five spots to sit in 15th position along with Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the ODI bowler rankings.
New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson, following a career-best performance of 4 for 41 runs, has jumped 27 places &ndash; moving up to joint 69th position, where he shares the spot with Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh.

The ICC has asked the Bangladesh Cricket Board to reconsider its demand to relocate its T20 World Cup matches from India, but the BCB has reiterated its security concerns and refused to back down.

The ICC on Tuesday "requested" the Bangladesh Cricket Board to reconsider its demand of shifting the country's T20 World Cup matches out of India but the BCB has refused to back down, reiterating its security concerns.
In a statement, the BCB said the board's position remains unchanged despite the ICC's reluctance to entertain its request and both parties will continue to "explore possible solutions".
BCB has written to the ICC multiple times demanding that its World Cup games be shifted out of India due to security concerns but considering that the schedule for the T20 showpiece beginning February 7 is finalised, the world body is unlikely to relent.
"While the ICC highlighted that the tournament itinerary has already been announced and requested the BCB to reconsider its stance, the Board's position remains unchanged. Both parties agreed that discussions will continue to explore possible solutions," the BCB said.
"The BCB remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of its players, officials and staff while engaging constructively with the ICC to address the matter," said the BCB after its officials attended the video conference with ICC," it added.
While the BCB considers it unsafe for its players to travel to India, ICC's risk assessment report does not flag any specific or direct threat to the team if it participates in the tournament.
In Tuesday's video conference with the ICC, the BCB was represented by its president Aminul Islam and CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury among other senior officials.
"During the discussions, the BCB reaffirmed its position regarding the decision not to travel to India, citing security concerns. The Board also reiterated its request for the ICC to consider relocating Bangladesh's matches outside India," the BCB added.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play three games in Kolkata and one in Mumbai during the league stage.
BCB asked for a relocation after the BCCI instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to release pacer Mustafizur Rahman from its IPL 2026 roster amid violence against Hindus here.
Following Mustafizur's removal, an irate Bangladesh government banned IPL's broadcast in the country.
Former captain Tamim Iqbal and current Test skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto have cautioned against a very hard-line approach with the former saying that decisions taken today would have repercussions 10 years down the line.
Shanto has voiced the psychological stress that the players are feeling at the prospect of missing a World Cup.
However, sports ministry advisor Asif Nazrul has taken an unyielding position, repeatedly stating that Bangladesh will not budge from its demand for relocation of its games to co-host Sri Lanka.

Virat Kohli's imperious form has managed to offset mounting injury concerns around some key players and India would hope that the list doesn't get any longer as they close in on sealing the ODI series against New Zealand in the second game in Rajkot on Wednesday.
India made a winning start defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the series opener in Vadodara, but the hosts lost Washington Sundar for the remainder of the series due to a side strain.
The selectors have roped in Delhi's Ayush Badoni but in all likelihood, India would bring in another all-rounder in Nitish Kumar Reddy into the eleven given head coach Gautam Gambhir's preference for multi-skilled players.
On the eve of the first ODI, Rishabh Pant had copped a blow while batting against Indian throw-down staff and was ruled out of the series. His ouster had prompted the selectors to draft in Dhruv Jurel, who can be another option for a specialist batter if the team management decides to go that way.
Despite the available options, India's white-ball set up would not want to see more injuries with the T20 World Cup less than a month away. That squad would feature an entirely different batting line-up from the one in the ODIs.
But some names are common to both sides and an important one, all-rounder Tilak Varma, is out of at least the first three T20Is against the Kiwis due to a groin injury.
However, all of these concerns are for later as the ongoing series continues to be about the two veterans, who have served Indian cricket with distinction. Kohli and Rohit Sharma are clearly enjoying themselves in what is the final leg of a glittering international run.
Kohli narrowly missed his 54th ODI ton in the first ODI but his stroke-filled 91-ball 93 set up India's win even though a mini collapse created a few nervous moments.
However, none of that would worry the think-tank given the chasm between the two sides since New Zealand are also heavily depleted for the ODIs.
Skipper Shubman Gill hit a measured half-century and his deputy Shreyas Iyer missed his by one run in the series opener. But a robust batting show heralded by a dazzling start from Rohit Sharma would keep India assured of going full throttle once again.
For someone who has been batting in the nets with the same intensity as in the game, Kohli is riding high on confidence and performing at a different level. It certainly seems to be a case of him being seemingly free of the burden of expectations and criticism.
There have been additional colours to his batting as neither has Kohli refrained from attacking from the start, nor has he left out any runs out on the park. This is perhaps the reason why he became the fastest to 28,000 runs across formats in Vadodara.
However, India would still like to see a significant improvement in their bowling performance, especially that of spinners, who had to deal with lack of grip and turn in Vadodara.
It was the fast bowlers' improvisation of taking the pace off the ball which resulted in a few breakthroughs in the last game and spinners would hope for better surface support here at the Niranjan Shah Stadium.
Despite the loss in the opening ODI, New Zealand will take a lot of heart in running India close in the first game despite Kohli's exploits.
The equation had remained run-a-ball throughout India's chase of 301 before a three-wicket burst from Kyle Jamieson (4/41) opened up the game. But the Kiwis stuttered with a few late dropped catches and lost the game.
A 117-run opening partnership between southpaws Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls set up the platform which was squandered by the middle-order. But world No.3 Daryl Mitchell's explosive 84 gave New Zealand just about enough runs on the board.
Mitchell Hay and Kristian Clarke's late exploits were another set of positives for the Kiwis, who certainly would hope that rookie leg-spinner Adithya Ashok is better after the experience in Vadodara.
