Alamgir Tareen: PSL franchise Multan Sultans owner dies by suicide

Alamgir Tareen, the owner of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans, has tragically died by suicide at his residence in Lahore. The 63-year-old entrepreneur, an esteemed alumnus of Yale University, had made significant contributions as a prominent businessman in South Punjab. Additionally, he operated one of the country's largest water purification plants.

The exact reasons behind Tareen's untimely decision are yet to be determined, but Pakistani media reports claim Tareen’s suicide note mentioned of an illness.

As per the police report, Tareen shot himself using a pistol.

Multan Sultans CEO Haider Azhar personally confirmed the news, expressing profound grief and extending heartfelt condolences to Tareen's family.

"Alamgir Tareen was a valued member of our team and a well-respected personality. We are deeply saddened by his sudden and untimely demise. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time," Azhar conveyed.

The Lahore Qalandars, another PSL franchise, also expressed their deep sorrow and grief upon hearing the devastating news.

"We stand with Alamgir Tareen's family and Multan Sultans in this difficult time," the franchise stated in a compassionate message.

As stated on the official Multan Sultans' website, Alamgir Tareen was a passionate sports enthusiast committed to establishing a robust platform for aspiring athletes. His vision aimed to provide them with exceptional resources and opportunities for skill development.

In 2021, the Multan Sultans achieved a significant milestone by clinching their first-ever PSL title with a thrilling victory over Peshawar Zalmi in the final. Alamgir Tareen's leadership and dedication played a pivotal role in the franchise's success, leaving an indelible mark on the PSL community.
