IIndia captain Shubman Gill led from the front to help his side win the second Test against England and draw the five-match series level at 1-1.

Shubman Gill, the newly appointed skipper, marked his thrilling debut as Test captain with a resounding win, as India triumphed by a staggering margin of 336 runs.

Gill was at the forefront, amassing a remarkable 430 runs across both innings, the second-highest tally by a player in a single Test.

This stellar performance drew accolades from former India cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri, who lavished praise on the 25-year-old.

"A captain's performance can't get any better. A perfect 10 out of 10. When you're down in the series and you respond with batting reminiscent of Don Bradman, scoring 269 and 161, and clinching a win," Shastri acclaimed.

Gill's explosive start to the series, featuring three major centuries, has rocketed him to the top of the run charts with 585 runs in just two matches.

This remarkable feat has lifted his Test average from just over 35 to nearly 43. Shastri was also captivated by Gill's captaincy and strategic decisions, particularly highlighting his choice to include Akash Deep.

"Your captaincy evolved from reactive in the first Test to proactive in the next. You might have uncovered the best seamer for English conditions in Akash Deep, who could pose significant challenges to England as the series progresses," Shastri said.

In the wake of this victory, Gill announced the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the third Test at Lord's. However, after Akash Deep's remarkable ten-wicket haul, his spot in the team seems secure as India gears up for the next encounter.
