R Ashwin: First Indian to complete double of 100 wickets and 1000 runs against an opponent in Tests

R Ashwin: First Indian to complete double of 100 wickets and 1000 runs against an opponent in Tests

In the landscape of international cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin continues to etch his name into the record books with every game he plays. The celebrated Indian off-spinner, who recently joined the elite club of bowlers with over 500 Test wickets, has now crossed another monumental milestone during the 4th Test in Ranchi.

Ashwin has distinguished himself as the first Indian bowler to amass 100 Test wickets against England, a feat that underscores his dominance in the longest format of the game. This remarkable achievement came when Jonny Bairstow was adjudged lbw, failing to connect with a sweep shot against Ashwin's cunning spin.

But Ashwin's record-setting spree didn't stop there. He has also become the inaugural Asian cricketer to accomplish the formidable double of securing 100 wickets and scoring over 1000 runs against a single opponent in Test cricket. This achievement places Ashwin in the company of cricketing giants, making him the fourth player globally to achieve this historic double against England, alongside legends such as George Giffen, Monty Noble, and Garfield Sobers.

Ashwin's journey in cricket has been marked by relentless pursuit and excellence, setting him apart as a player of exceptional skill and determination. His latest milestones not only celebrate his individual success but also highlight the significant contributions he has made to Indian cricket.
