'Need to have long term plans'; Misbah-ul-Haq raises concern over PCB's short-sighted policies

Misbah-ul-Haq, the former skipper of the Pakistan cricket team, voiced concerns about the PCB's lack of clarity and short-term goals, claiming that it forbids both foreign and domestic coaches from collaborating with the nation's cricket body.

In a media interaction in Karachi, Misbah, who served as the head coach and chief selector of the Pakistan team from 2019 to 2021, criticized the PCB for dismissing players and coaches based on one or two series or due to changes in the board's top management.

"I believe you can't make a good team or groom quality players if proper time is not given for this process. We need to look at the systems of some other countries who are successful, If you look at the policies of the board, leave alone foreign coaches I don’t think even our local coaches want to work with the PCB," Misbah told reporters," Misbah said during a media interaction in Karachi.

Misbah said that how can players feel secure and establish themselves in the national team if they are not sure about what is happening in the board.

On Pakistan's hopes for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, he said they should be "front-runners".

"Our players are also used to conditions in the West Indies so we should be among the front-runners."
He also spoke about the raging debate on the importance of the Test format.

"You can say the popularity of T20 cricket has affected ODI cricket but Test format will go on," he said.
