Ashes 2023: Nathan Lyon slams Kevin Pietersen after 'concussion substitute' remark | ENG vs AUS

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon spoke to the media after he helped his team eke out an extra 15 runs against England despite tearing his calf earlier in the game on Day 4 of the 2nd Ashes Test on July 1.

In the post-match presentation, the 35-year-old dismissed the suggestions made about him that he walked out to bat in order to possibly avail a concussion substitute if he gets hit during the innings.

Match commentator and former England skipper Kevin Pietersen had earlier made the remark. He said he wondered if Lyon had walked out so that Australia could get a substitute bowler like Todd Murphy in the fourth innings later in the game.

Responding to which, an emotional Lyon said, 'I have heard comments that I only went out there to get hit in the head but I'm really against that. I have lost one of my mates due to being hit in the head so I think that's a really poor conversation being had, if I'm honest with you'
