Punjab Vigilance Bureau nabs two PSPCL officials in bribery case

n a major crackdown on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested two Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) officials red-handed while accepting a bribe in Ludhiana. The accused, Kamalpreet Singh (Lineman) and Kuldip Singh (Meter Reader), were caught taking ₹5,000—the second installment of a ₹30,000 bribe—at the PSPCL office in Focal Point, Ludhiana.

According to an official VB spokesperson, the arrests followed a complaint by Sandeep Singh, a resident of Jamalpur, Ludhiana. He alleged that Kamalpreet Singh had demanded ₹30,000 to install a new electricity meter, replacing a burnt one at his showroom. The accused had already taken ₹20,000 and was insisting on the remaining ₹10,000.

Following a preliminary inquiry, a VB team from the Ludhiana unit set up a trap and apprehended the lineman and meter reader while accepting ₹5,000 at the complainant's showroom, with two official witnesses present. A case has been registered against both officials under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Ludhiana Range, and further investigation is underway.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau continues its stringent campaign against corruption, vowing to take strict action against officials engaging in unethical practices.
