CM Mann lays foundation for 23 rural link roads in Majitha, names Talbir Singh Gill AAP 2027 candidate

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann visited Majitha on Sunday to lay the foundation stone for 23 rural link roads worth ₹11.32 crore, highlighting the government’s focus on infrastructure and public welfare.

During the function, Mann also announced that AAP leader Talbir Singh Gill will be the party’s candidate from Majitha in the 2027 Assembly elections.

Addressing the gathering, CM Mann emphasized development, governance, and accountability as key priorities for the constituency. He said the people of Majitha would not allow the recurrence of past practices of intimidation and misconduct, asserting that public participation would remain central to local decision-making.

Mann referred to historical and contemporary political dynamics in Majitha, highlighting the role of the Majithia and Badal families in the area’s politics. He said that earlier, local residents lived under fear due to alleged misuse of authority by political figures connected with previous governments. He cited historical events, including the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, to contextualize past betrayals in the region, and said such acts are not forgotten.

The Chief Minister warned that bringing back previous political parties, including the Akali Dal led by Sukhbir Singh Badal, could reverse the progress made in the region. He raised concerns about issues such as sacrilege (beadbi) incidents, attacks on protestors, and administrative lapses, suggesting that the current government is focused on addressing such challenges.

Mann also addressed matters related to the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), stating that the committee’s leadership should prioritize institutional responsibilities over political activities. He said the government’s investigations into missing religious texts from the SGPC are aimed solely at recovery and not at interfering in religious affairs.

The Chief Minister highlighted several ongoing development initiatives in Punjab. These include providing free electricity to 90 percent of households, improving power supply for farmers, and promoting education and healthcare through programs such as Aam Aadmi Clinics and Schools of Eminence. He also mentioned welfare measures for border residents, including efforts to adjust the border fence to allow cultivation of farmland near the International Border.

Regarding local infrastructure, Mann said that ₹9.94 crore will be spent on renovating 23 rural link roads in Majitha, with ₹1.38 crore allocated for their maintenance over the next five years. He noted that these roads are essential for commuting and transporting agricultural produce, and that improvements will benefit residents across the constituency. He added that the government has undertaken a statewide program to repair and maintain Punjab’s 43,000 kilometres of link roads, using AI surveys and a CM Flying Squad to ensure quality and prevent fund mismanagement.

The function was attended by Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, MLA Sarwan Singh Dhunn, senior AAP leader Talbir Singh Gill, and other local dignitaries.
