Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested two RTA officials, Jatinder Kumar and Mukesh, for accepting a Rs 5500 bribe in Pathankot. The arrest followed a complaint from Surjit Kumar about a vehicle registration transfer.

Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests two RTA officials for accepting Rs 5500 bribe in Pathankot

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) apprehended two officials of the Registration and Transport Authority (RTA) in Pathankot on Monday for accepting a bribe of Rs 5500.

Jatinder Kumar, a data entry operator, and Mukesh, both posted at the RTA office, were arrested after a complaint was lodged by Surjit Kumar, a resident of Manwal village in Pathankot. Kumar alleged that the accused demanded a bribe for transferring his vehicle's registration from Himachal Pradesh to Punjab.

An official spokesperson of the state Vigilance Bureau also added that after a preliminary enquiry into this complaint the VB team laid a trap during which both the aforementioned accused were caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5500 from the complainant in the presence of official witnesses.


He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both the accused at VB Police Station, Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigations into this case was under progress. - change the tense of the article, the event happened on Monday
