The Punjab government inaugurated a modern old age home in Tapa, emphasizing support for the elderly with comprehensive care services.

Punjab has opened a state-of-the-art old age home in Tapa

The Punjab govenrment, under aegis of Chief Minister Punjab Mr Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to the welfare of all sections. The elderly are the pillars of our society and to care for them the government has built an old age home at a cost of Rs 8.21 crores in Tapa.

Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development Punjab Dr. Baljit Kaur said this while inaugurating the government old age home here today. The MP from Sangrur Mr Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer was also present at the occasion.

She said that as per guidance of CM S Bhagwant Singh Mann, the three storeyed old age home has been constructed in an area of 26 kanal and 17 marlas. The elderly here are being given all kinds of facilties and items worth Rs 1 crore have been bought for them.

Dormitory, food, medical facilities, day care, library and game room have been provided free for the convenience of the elderly. 14 staff members have been posted in this old age home that has a capacity of 72 beds.

Speaking on this occasion, MP Sangrur S. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that this old age home is boon for the elderly who have no shelter. He said that all kinds of facilities will be provided by the government free of cost to the destitute elderly.

On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur and Member of Parliament Meet Hayer met the elders and had lunch with them.

On this occasion, elders Balvir Singh, Suresh Rani, Jagwinder Singh, Malkit Kaur narrated their woes and became emotional. They said that the Punjab government has held their hand in times of distress.

Earlier the chief guest visited the state level health checkup camp under the campaign 'Our Seniors, Our Pride' and interacted with the senior citizens from five districts. She distributed spectacles, pension/senior citizen cards to the elderly.

She honored seven senior citizens living in old age homes and three seniors in day care.

Director Social Security, Women and Child Development Department Madam Dr. Shena Agarwal welcomed the chief guest and other guests and attendees. The special chief secretary of the department Madam Raji P Srivastava also addressed and said that this project will prove to be a boon for the needy senior citizens.

MLA Mr Labh Singh Ugoke said that the government has provided all facilities to the elderly in the old age home. He said that he is grateful to Chief Minister Punjab Mr Bhagwant Singh Mann and Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur who have provided shelter to the helpless senior citizens.

On this occasion all guests were honored.

Chairman Improvement Trust Mr Ram Tirath Manna, Chairman Tarsem Singh Kahneke, Harinder Singh Dhaliwal, SSP Sarfaraz Alam, ADC (G) Anuprita Johal, ADC (D) Satwant Singh, SDM Tapa Rishabh Bansal, SDM Barnala Gurbir Singh Kohli and others were present.
