Veteran actor R Subbalakshmi passes away at 87 in Kochi

Veteran actor R Subbalakshmi passed away on November 30 in Kochi at the age of 87. The cause of her death remains undisclosed. Further information about her funeral arrangements is awaited.

R Subbalakshmi is the mother of actor Thara Kalyan, who is known for her appearances in Malayalam cinema.

Subbalakshmi was married to late Kalyanakrishnan.

According to reports, she is survived by two daughters and a son.

Apart from being an actor, Subbalakshmi was a Carnatic musician and a painter. Some of her famous performances in Malayalam include 'Kalyanaraman, 'Pandippada' and 'Nandanam'. Not just Malayalam, she also appeared in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Sanskrit films. She also played a role in the English film, 'In the Name of God'.

R Subbalakshmi was last seen in Thalapathy Vijay's 'Beast' and in Hindi, she played Sushant Singh Rajput's grandmother in 'Dil Bechara'.

Subbalakshmi was also the first woman composer of All India Radio in South India. She also worked as a dubbing artist and appeared in more than 65 television serials.
