Mumbai, Aug 19 (PTI) Actor Akshay Oberoi is set to appear alongside Kannada superstar Yash in the anticipated film "Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grownups". Initially starstruck, Oberoi found inspiration in Yash's dedication and humility.
"I've had the good fortune to work with Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan before collaborating with Yash. Despite Yash's immense popularity, he remains grounded, soft-spoken, and devoid of arrogance.
His rise from Mysore, with a bus conductor father, to superstardom is truly inspiring. Like everyone else, I was a fan of &lsquo;KGF&rsquo;. He has motivated me to think bigger about my career and aspirations," Oberoi expressed to PTI.
"Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grownups" is directed by esteemed filmmaker Geetu Mohandas, known for her films like &lsquo;Liar&rsquo;s Dice&rsquo; and &lsquo;Moothon&rsquo;. Produced by VN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, the movie is slated for release on March 19, 2026.
"Being directed by Geetu Mohandas is a wonderful experience. I am confident that 'Toxic' will be remarkable," Oberoi noted.
The 40-year-old actor is also anticipating the launch of another project, &ldquo;Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari&rdquo;, directed by Shashank Khaitan. Starring Varun Dhawan and Jahnvi Kapoor, this film will be released later this year on October 2.
Oberoi is optimistic that both &ldquo;Toxic&rdquo; and &ldquo;Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari&rdquo; will successfully engage a wide audience.

Reading his biography recently, I got emotional and became a dedicated fan," he mentioned, encouraging the youth to explore Dutt's outstanding films such as &ldquo;Pyaasa&rdquo;, &ldquo;Chaudhvin Ka Chand&rdquo;, &ldquo;Kaagaz Ke Phool&rdquo;, &ldquo;Aar Paar&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Mr. and Mrs. 55&rdquo;.

Actor Rana Daggubati on Monday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) here in connection with a money laundering case involving illegal online betting and gambling by certain platforms.
The federal agency has issued summons to four actors--Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati and Lakshmi Manchu-- last month, asking them to appear on different dates at the agency's zonal office here for questioning in the case.
Raj and Deverakonda earlier appeared. The actors had "endorsed" online betting apps allegedly involved in generating "illicit" funds, according to official sources.
During their appearance, the agency is expected to record the statements of the actors under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The ED had taken cognisance of as many as five state police FIRs to register its case against these actors and a number of other celebrities and social media influencers.
These individuals are suspected to have "endorsed" online betting apps for a celebrity or endorsement fee, ED sources said.
These platforms are alleged to have generated "illicit" funds through illegal betting and gambling, worth crores of rupees, they said.
Deverakonda, had recently said that he did an endorsement for a gaming app, adding that gaming apps are completely legal and recognised by the government, licensed as a business.

B Unnikrishnan, director, producer, and General Secretary of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), told PTI Videos that while the decision to change a film's title rests with the producer, the protest was aimed at the larger issue of censorship and the violation of filmmakers' creative rights.
"They are raising objections based on the use of certain names and are refusing to issue censorship certificates. Cinema transcends religious or caste considerations, and we cannot allow this to continue," he added.
Unnikrishnan said that although the Malayalam film industry is not very large in terms of numbers, it "will not remain silent in the face of such attacks on creative freedom." CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam, who joined the protest in solidarity, said that Suresh Gopi&mdash;who is also a Minister of State in the Central Government&mdash;should reflect on how his government is "stifling freedom of expression".
Indrans, a National Award-winning actor, expressed his concern over the developments.
"I am scared. I do not know what awaits us when we bring out new films. It is frightening," he claimed.

The 42-year-old star was arrested recently in connection with the stampede at a theatre here screening his latest movie "Pushpa: The Rule" which resulted in the death of a woman on December 4.
Telangana State Film Development Corporation (FDC) chairman and leading producer Dil Raju on Wednesday said a delegation of film personalities would call on state Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy today to foster "healthy relations" between the government and the industry.
The meeting assumes significance amid Cinematography minister Komatireddi Venkat Reddy's statement that the state government, in future, may consider ticket price hikes only for certain categories such as films made on history, freedom struggle or anti-drugs or message-oriented.
The state government's stand came in the wake of the death of a 35-year-old woman at Sandhya Theatre here due to suffocation where the 'Pushpa 2' movie was screened on December 4.
The minister&rsquo;s statement, if really implemented, will have a huge impact on the high budget films such as Ram Charan&rsquo;s "Game Changer", Nandamuri Balakrishna's "Daaku Maharaj" and Venkatesh&rsquo;s "Sankranthiki Vasthunnam" which are slated for release during Sankranti next year.
Directed by popular Director S Shankar, Game Changer was produced by Dil Raju. The film is reportedly made with a budget of nearly Rs 400 crore.
Though the Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce welcomed the government's decision that it will not allow benefit shows of movies in the state and also enhanced ticket prices will be done on a case-to-case basis, the move may not go down well with the production houses as they usually look to reap the benefits during the early day of the film release.
The meeting is being organised on behalf of the FDC, Dil Raju had said, adding, that he would act as a bridge between the government and the film fraternity.
Some ruling Congress leaders have found fault with Allu Arjun's comments last week, describing the stampede incident as purely accidental and denying the allegations made by CM Revanth Reddy on the "roadshow" before the film screening.
Hours after Reddy slammed the actor for holding a roadshow and waving to the crowds at the theatre, without referring to anyone, the 'Pushpa' star refuted the allegations, saying it was not a procession or a roadshow.
Allu Arjun was arrested by the city police in connection with the death of the woman on December 13.
The Telangana High Court granted him a four-week interim bail on the same day and he was released from a prison here on December 14 morning.

Supreme Court turns down plea challenging Madras HC stay on censor certificate for Vijay&rsquo;s Jana Nayagan, delaying the film&rsquo;s Pongal release.

The release of Vijay-starrer "Jana Nayagan" has been pushed further with the Supreme Court on Thursday dismissing the producer's plea for a censor certificate and asking them to go back to the Madras High Court for relief on January 20.
KVN Productions LLP had challenged an interim order of the Madras High Court that stayed a single-judge direction to grant censor board clearance to the Tamil movie, which was slated for a Pongal release on January 9 and is billed to be Vijay's last before his full-fledged entry into politics.
A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih questioned the pace at which the case was dealt with in the Madras High Court and asked the film producers to approach the division bench for relief on January 20.
It said the Madras High Court must decide the plea on January 20 itself after senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the producers, said a film is a perishable item, and it would cause "serious injury" if adjudication of the dispute is delayed.
Rohatgi submitted that it is a long-settled industry practice to announce the release date before Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) clearance, and over 5,000 theatres were booked for the screening of the movie.
Justice Datta questioned the haste with which the single bench disposed of the matter within one day. "We would welcome all judges to dispose of matters within a day or two of their filing. But this should happen in all cases. This is a blistering pace with which the matter was disposed of. The matter was filed on January 6 and decided on 7th. When the matter is fixed for hearing before the division bench on January 20th, they have a right of appeal," he said.
Justice Datta also said that the CBFC chairperson's order dated January 6, referring the matter to the review committee, was not challenged before the single judge. "When the division bench has listed the matter for January 20, then there is no need for the Supreme Court to interfere at this juncture," the bench observed.
Rohatgi said the communication, which was received from the CBFC on January 5, stated that they had referred the film to the review committee. The communication was challenged before the single judge, he clarified and added that this was the same as the January 6 order of the chairperson of the CBFC. "Pending the challenge of the communication, the January 6 order was uploaded," he submitted.
Justice Datta said the writ petition should have been amended to challenge the January 6 order and pointed out that the precedent cited by the single bench was not applicable to the present case, as it is related to a service matter. Rohatgi claimed that the entire exercise of the CBFC was "mala fide".
Justice Datta, however, said, "You go before the division bench; we are not going to entertain this." Rohatgi urged the bench to ask the high court to decide the matter on January 20. "I have lost everything," he said. "We are not inclined to interfere," the bench said and ordered that the division bench of the high court may endeavour to decide the appeal on January 20.

The Karnataka State Women&rsquo;s Commission has written to the CBFC seeking action after AAP lodged a complaint against alleged obscene scenes in the teaser of Yash&rsquo;s upcoming film &lsquo;Toxic&rsquo;, citing harm to women and children.

The KSWC on Monday wrote to the CBFC seeking "appropriate action" after the AAP lodged a complaint objecting to alleged obscene scenes in the teaser of the film 'Toxic', starring actor Yash.
Earlier in the day, leaders of the women&rsquo;s wing of the AAP&rsquo;s state unit met officials of the state women's commission and submitted a complaint, urging action against the teaser.
"It is hereby requested to take further action on the subject mentioned in the petition after verifying it as per rules and to submit an action-taken report in this regard," the commission&rsquo;s secretary said in a letter to the CBFC, citing a petition submitted by AAP state secretary Usha Mohan.
In her petition, Mohan alleged that the "obscene and explicit content" in the teaser was causing serious harm to the social well-being of women and children.
She claimed that the scenes, released in the public domain without any age-related warning, "degrade the dignity of women and insult Kannada culture."
Citing the alleged adverse impact on society, particularly minors, the party urged the commission to intervene immediately and direct the state government authorities to "ban the teaser and remove it from social media platforms."
"On behalf of the women&rsquo;s wing of the Aam Aadmi Party, we urge the commission to treat the matter seriously and take immediate action to uphold the cultural and moral values of the state," the petition said.
The makers of 'Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups' released the first look of Yash on January 8, introducing him as &lsquo;Raya&rsquo; through a brief teaser shared on the actor&rsquo;s 40th birthday.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film marks Yash&rsquo;s first project since the blockbuster success of 'KGF: Chapter 2' in 2022.
It has been shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, with dubbed versions planned in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and other languages.
Following the teaser&rsquo;s release, a section of social media users objected to the visuals, accusing the film of "objectifying women" and questioning the director in light of her past statements critical of such portrayals.
Another section, however, came out strongly in defence of the teaser and the film&rsquo;s team.
Produced by KVN Productions, 'Toxic' is scheduled for release on March 19. The film also stars Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Kiara Advani, and Rukmini Vasanth in pivotal roles.

The producer of the Tamil film Jana Nayagan, starring actor Vijay, approached the Supreme Court on Monday, challenging an interim order of the Madras High Court that stayed a single-judge direction to grant the CBFC clearance to the movie.

Additional Solicitor General ARL Sundaresan and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta (who appeared through video conferencing) outlined the grounds for the appeal before the division bench.
The January 6 letter of CBFC, which was communicated to the producer of the film, informing him that the matter was referred to the revising committee, was not at all under challenge. But the single judge set aside the letter and gave the above direction.
In its order, the division bench said the petition was filed on January 6, and the CBFC was not granted sufficient opportunity to file its reply. There shall be a stay, the bench added and ordered notice to the producer of the movie and posted the matter to January 21.

Allowing the plea of KVN Productions, which has produced the film, seeking a direction to CBFC authorities to issue a censor certificate, Justice PT Asha said that once the board had decided to grant the certificate, the Chairperson had no power to send the matter to a Review Committee.
The film board immediately preferred an appeal and it was allowed by a Division Bench led by Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava.
When the matter came up hearing before the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan, ASG Sundaresan and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta (appearing through video conferencing) outlined the grounds for appeal by the CBFC.
Sundaresan submitted that the single judge has ordered the issuance of a censor certificate forthwith. Although the matter was argued, time was not given for the film board to file a counter-affidavit.
SG Mehta said the chairperson of CBFC had to review the decision to grant the certificate and send the matter to the review panel on the grounds of references to the Army and sentiments related to religion.
The law officers representing the film certification board wanted the appeal to be taken up immediately. Later, the chief justice-led bench agreed to hear the appeal immediately.
Besides 'Jana Nayagan,' which is Vijay's last movie before his full-fledged political plunge, Tamil Nadu eagerly awaits the release of another politically loaded film 'Parasakthi,' which captures the language struggle of the 1960's and said to reflect shades of the Dravidian ideology.
While Parasakthi's screening has been cleared by the censor board, it is not clear if the TVK chief Vijay-starrer movie would hit the screens ahead of the harvest festival Pongal, next week.
In her order, Justice Asha said the censor board had decided to grant a censor certificate to the film, 'Jana Nayagan' and sent a communication to the producer on December 22, 2025.
Once the board has taken a decision and sent a communication, the Chairperson has no power to send the matter to the Review Committee based on a subsequent complaint by one of the panel members. Therefore, the chairperson had exercised his power without jurisdiction, the judge added.
The judge said, exercising powers under Article 226 of the Constitution, the court has powers to mould the relief sought by setting aside the letter dated January 6, by which the matter was referred to the Review Committee.
The judge said the argument of ASG Sundaresan that the petitioner can only challenge the letter dated January 6 and cannot file a petition seeking issuance of mandamus (direction) cannot be sustained.
While the producers had planned to release the movie on January 9, it had to approach the High Court after it was alleged that a complaint had been lodged against the yet-to-be released movie over hurting religious sentiments.
Subsequently, after hearing the matter, the HC had on January 7 reserved its order on the petition seeking a direction to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to give a censor certificate under 'UA 16+' category to the much-anticipated film.
On January 6, when the plea came up for hearing, Justice P T Asha had orally asked the CBFC to produce on January 7, a copy of the "complaint" that claimed the film "hurts religious sentiments."
The filmmakers had submitted that the movie had been referred for "review" after an initial recommendation for U/A certification.
Even though a release date has been fixed for the film as January 9, it can only proceed legally, the Censor Board had told the court.
Directed by H Vinoth, the film "Jana Nayagan" stars actors Vijay, Prakash Raj, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, among others.
The film team, having completed all work, sent it for censorship on December 18.
Subsequently, on December 19, the censor board that viewed the film reportedly advised the removal of some scenes and muting of some dialogues.
Even after changes suggested by the censor board members were made, the censor certificate has still not been issued, the petitioner movie production house had submitted.

The release of the teaser came as a surprise for fans, particularly as Yash did not attend a customary fan meet on his birthday. Addressing this earlier, the actor on Wednesday shared an update on his Instagram Story, explaining that he was busy with work on Toxic. He said he understood how much fans had been looking forward to meeting him and that he missed them as well, adding that he could not step away as he was &ldquo;fully immersed&rdquo; in his work to ensure the film is completed on time. Yash also assured fans that they would meet in a &ldquo;much bigger way&rdquo; soon and said he would personally read all their birthday wishes.
In recent days, the film&rsquo;s team has also released character posters featuring Yash along with the lead actresses &mdash; Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria &mdash; further building anticipation around the project.
Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups is written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas and directed by Mohandas. The film has been shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, with dubbed versions planned in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and other languages.
