'Parasite' fame Park So-dam opens up on her cancer diagnosis; says she almost lost her voice

South Korean star Park So-dam, known for her Oscar-winning film ‘Parasite,’ has opened up about her cancer diagnosis. The actor was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer while filming 'Phantom', but she continued working through 2021.

According to Soompi, she said, ‘While filming, I didn’t know my body was in pain. I just thought it was burnout. It was the first time I felt afraid to go on set. I think my body was sending me a signal, but I just thought of it as a mental issue. I felt so apologetic towards the director and my seniors. After filming, I even cried because I felt apologetic.’

She also recalled, ‘While waiting for my biopsy results, I did my dubbing for Phantom. I was in a bad state, to the point where I almost lost my voice, so if I was just a little bit late. I almost would’ve been unable to do the recordings.’

The actor said she has recovered now and is thankful to get her voice back. She also revealed that her skin has been affected due to hormonal imbalances yet she can only focus on how happy she is now.

So-dam's upcoming film ‘Phantom' is set in 1933, during the Japanese colonisation of Korea.
