Lisa Marie Presley always called her marriage to Michael Jackson ‘unusual,’ but her posthumous memoir spills some wild tea about the King of Pop’s love life.
In From Here To The Great Unknown: A Memoir, Presley reveals that when they first got together in 1994, MJ confessed he was still a virgin!
She says, ‘He kissed Tatum O’Neal, had a thing with Brooke Shields, but it was all PG—just a kiss.’ And wait for it—Madonna even tried to hook up with him, but nada happened.
Presley, fresh off her divorce from Danny Keough (father of her daughter Riley), was taken aback by MJ’s confession.
The couple, who first met as kids, reunited in the '90s, and despite their oddball romance, things heated up after MJ declared his love during a Vegas trip.
In her memoir, Presley opens up about a moment when MJ laid it all out: ‘I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’m completely in love with you. I want us to get married and for you to have my children.’
Naturally, she was speechless at first, but eventually admitted, ‘I was flattered, and I was in love with him too.’
After splitting from Keough, Presley tied the knot with Jackson. But the whirlwind romance lasted just two years before they called it quits in 1996, citing ‘irreconcilable differences.’
Fast forward to 2010, and Presley admitted she never quite understood their relationship, even realizing why some folks saw their marriage as a bit questionable.
‘To some degree, he was a master at manipulating a little bit with the media. I understand that nobody really knew who I was. They just assumed I was going along with something he would be doing,’ she said.
Lisa Marie Presley’s posthumous memoir also reveals the deeply personal way she chose to grieve the loss of her son, Benjamin Keough, who tragically died by suicide at 27 in 2020.
In the book, Lisa Marie shares that after Benjamin’s death, she kept his body on dry ice for two months in a separate bedroom in their Los Angeles home.
‘There is no law in California that says you have to bury someone immediately,’ she explains.
Riley Keough, Benjamin’s sister, writes about how important it was for their mother to have time to process her grief, just as she did after Elvis Presley’s death when Lisa Marie was nine.
The family even got tattoos in Benjamin's honour, with Lisa Marie inviting the tattoo artist into the room with Benjamin’s body to get the details right.
Riley recalls the eerie sensation they all felt after getting their tattoos—Benjamin seemingly communicated from beyond, telling them it was time for his body to leave the house. They eventually held a funeral for him in Malibu, and he was buried next to his grandfather Elvis at Graceland.
After Lisa Marie's own passing in 2023, Riley honoured her mother’s wishes and helped complete the memoir, hoping to reveal the depth of who Lisa Marie truly was.
‘She was more than just Elvis’s daughter,’ Riley said, ‘She was a fierce mother, an underrated artist, and so much more.’
Riley sums it up: ‘I've had an extremely absurd life, but this moment is in the top five.’
