More than 1,200 celebrities from Hollywood including notable Oscar, BAFTA, Emmy and Palme d&rsquo;Or winners like Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo have signed a pledge refusing to work with Israeli institutions and companies implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people.
The list of celebrities which have signed the pledge include prominent names such as filmmakers Yorgos Lanthimos, Ava DuVernay, Adam McKay, Boots Riley, Emma Seligman, Joshua Oppenheimer and Mike Leigh, and actors like Ayo Edebiri, Lily Gladstone, Hannah Einbinder, Peter Sarsgaard, Aimee Lou Wood, Paapa Essiedu, Gael Garcia Bernal, Riz Ahmed, Melissa Barrera, Cynthia Nixon, Tilda Swinton, Javier Bardem, Joe Alwyn and Josh O&rsquo;Connor.
The pledge statement was published by the organisation Film Workers for Palestine which unites film workers to "stand for an end to genocide, and for a free Palestine." The pledge includes not complying with the "whitewashing or justifying genocide and apartheid, and/or partnering with the government committing them." "As filmmakers, actors, film industry workers, and institutions, we recognize the power of cinema to shape perceptions. In this urgent moment of crisis, where many of our governments are enabling the carnage in Gaza, we must do everything we can to address complicity in that unrelenting horror," the statement read.
"Standing for equality, justice, and freedom for all people is a profound moral duty that none of us can ignore. So too, we must speak out now against the harm done to the Palestinian people," it added.
The pledge further requested the international film industry to stand against racism and dehumanisation and to do "everything humanly possible" to end the complicity in the oppression of the Palestinian people.
In 2024, a similar pledge was signed by over 7000 authors and book workers to boycott "complicit" Israeli publishing houses. Some of the signatories included winners of the Nobel Prize, Booker Prize, Pulitzer Prize, Giller Prize, MacArthur Fellowship, Miles Franklin Award, and National Book Award, including three winners, Percival Everett, Lena Khalaf Tuffaha, and Shifa Saltagi Safadi. Other authors included Khaled Hosseini, Piper Kerman and Ling Ma.

Hollywood star Mark Ruffalo is in talks to return for the role of Hulk in the upcoming installment of the "Spider-Man" franchise.
According to the entertainment news outlet The Hollywood Reporter, Ruffalo will reprise the role of Bruce Banner/ Hulk in the film.
The 57-year-old actor, also known for starring in projects such as "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", "Rumor Has It", and "13 Going on 30", essayed the role of Hulk for the first time in the 2012 Marvel film "The Avengers".
He went on to reprise the role in several projects, including "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (2015), "Thor: Ragnarok" (2017), and "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018), among others.
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" stars Tom Holland in the titular role alongside Zendaya. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. It is set to release in theatres on July 31, 2026.
The plot details are being kept under wraps.
Actors Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, and Liza Colon-Zayas round off the cast of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day".
Ruffalo's latest work is "Mickey 17", which released in March. Headlined by Robert Pattinson, the film was directed by an Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon Ho. The actor portrayed the role of Kenneth Marshall in the film.
It also starred Anamaria Vartolomei and Naomi Ackie in pivotal roles.&nbsp;

It has been almost six decades for Hollywood star Harrison Ford in the industry, but he has no plans to retire and believes there are parts for all ages to play when it comes to acting.
The 83-year-old actor made his debut in 1966 with "Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round" and has numerous projects to his credit, including "Blade Runner", "The Fugitive", "Star Wars", "Indiana Jones", and "American Graffiti", among others.
Asked if he has plans to retire anytime soon, Ford simply said "No".
"No. That&rsquo;s one of the things I thought was attractive about the job of an actor, was that they need old people, too, to play old people&rsquo;s parts," he told entertainment news outlet Variety in an interview.
The actor also discussed receiving his first Emmy nomination for the performance in the drama series "Shrinking".
He has been nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.
"I don&rsquo;t think there&rsquo;s anything competitive about creativity, and I don&rsquo;t understand the need to compare and contrast one person&rsquo;s work to another&rsquo;s. If you like it, you like it; if you don&rsquo;t like it, look at something else," Ford said.
"I&rsquo;m grateful, but I would have done what I did &mdash; and I&rsquo;ll do what I&rsquo;m doing &mdash; regardless of whether it&rsquo;s deemed worthy of mention or not. Because it&rsquo;s what I do. It&rsquo;s what I love doing. I love telling stories. I love pretending to be somebody else," he added.

I'm so glad I kept going.&rdquo; Lyme disease is transmitted by Ixodes ticks, also known as deer ticks. It can cause flu-like conditions, neurological problems, joint paint and other symptoms. In the vast majority of cases, Lyme disease is successfully treated with antibiotics.
&ldquo;I honestly don't know what my future is onstage, but I'll always cherish this run! And all of them before! It's been the stuff of legend for me,&rdquo; Timberlake wrote.
Timberlake cancelled and postponed multiple shows throughout the tour's run, citing health issues including bronchitis and laryngitis.
Six of his US shows were postponed from October and November to February, the singer announced on Instagram. Timberlake ultimately cancelled the last show of the US leg of the tour in Ohio due to the flu in February.
Representatives for Timberlake did not immediately respond to The Associated Press' request for comment.

Legendary Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, known for shaping heavy metal and shocking the world with his wild antics, has died at 76, just weeks after his final performance.

Ozzy Osbourne, the gloomy, demon-invoking lead singer of the pioneering band Black Sabbath who became the throaty, growling voice &mdash; and drug-and-alcohol ravaged id &mdash; of heavy metal, died Tuesday, just weeks after his farewell show. He was 76.
&ldquo;It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time,&rdquo; a family statement said. In 2020, he revealed he had Parkinson's disease after suffering a fall.
Either clad in black or bare-chested, the singer was often the target of parents' groups for his imagery and once caused an uproar for biting the head off a bat. Later, he would reveal himself to be a doddering and sweet father on the reality TV show &ldquo;The Osbournes.&rdquo; Black Sabbath's 1969 self-titled debut LP has been likened to the Big Bang of heavy metal. It came during the height of the Vietnam War and crashed the hippie party, dripping menace and foreboding. The cover of the record was of a spooky figure against a stark landscape. The music was loud, dense and angry, and marked a shift in rock 'n' roll.
The band's second album, &ldquo;Paranoid,&rdquo; included such classic metal tunes as &ldquo;War Pigs,&rdquo; &ldquo;Iron Man&rdquo; and &ldquo;Fairies Wear Boots.&rdquo; The song &ldquo;Paranoid&rdquo; only reached No. 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 but became in many ways the band's signature song. Both albums were voted among the top 10 greatest heavy metal albums of all time by readers of Rolling Stone magazine.
&ldquo;Black Sabbath are the Beatles of heavy metal. Anybody who's serious about metal will tell you it all comes down to Sabbath,&rdquo; Dave Navarro of the band Jane's Addiction wrote in a 2010 tribute in Rolling Stone. &ldquo;There's a direct line you can draw back from today's metal, through Eighties bands like Iron Maiden, back to Sabbath.&rdquo; Sabbath fired Osbourne in 1979 for his legendary excesses, like showing up late for rehearsals and missing gigs. &ldquo;We knew we didn't really have a choice but to sack him because he was just so out of control. The original Sabbath lineup reunited for the first time in 20 years in July 2025 in the UK for what Osborne said would be his final concert. &ldquo;Let the madness begin!&rdquo; he told 42,000 fans.
Metallica, Guns N Roses, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, Gojira, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Halestorm, Anthrax, Rival Sons and Mastodon did sets. Tom Morello, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Billy Corgan, Ronnie Wood, Travis Barker, Sammy Hagar, Andrew Watt, Yungblud, Korn's Jonathan Davis, Nuno Bettencourt, Chad Smith and Vernon Reid made appearances. Actor Jason Momoa was the host for the festivities.
&ldquo;Black Sabbath: we'd all be different people without them, that's the truth,&rdquo; said Pantera singer Phil Anselmo. &ldquo;I know I wouldn't be up here with a microphone in my hand without Black Sabbath.&rdquo; Osbourne embodied the excesses of metal. His outlandish exploits included relieving himself on the Alamo, snorting a line of ants off a sidewalk and, most memorably, biting the head off a live bat that a fan threw onstage during a 1981 concert. (He said he thought it was rubber.) Osbourne was sued in 1987 by parents of a 19-year-old teen who died by suicide while listening to his song &ldquo;Suicide Solution.&rdquo; The lawsuit was dismissed. Osbourne said the song was really about the dangers of alcohol, which caused the death of his friend Bon Scott, lead singer of AC/DC.
Then-Cardinal John J. O'Connor of New York claimed in 1990 that Osbourne's songs led to demonic possession and even suicide. &ldquo;You are ignorant about the true meaning of my songs,&rdquo; the singer wrote back. &ldquo;You have also insulted the intelligence of rock fans all over the world.&rdquo; Audiences at Osbourne shows could be mooned or spit on by the singer. They would often be hectored to scream along with the song, but the Satan-invoking Osbourne would usually send the crowds home with their ears ringing and a hearty &ldquo;God bless!&rdquo; He started an annual tour &mdash; Ozzfest &mdash; in 1996 after he was rejected from the lineup of what was then the top touring music festival, Lollapalooza. Ozzfest has gone on to host such bands as Slipknot, Tool, Megadeth, Rob Zombie, System of a Down, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park.
Osbourne's look changed little over his life. He wore his long hair flat, heavy black eye makeup and round glasses, often wearing a cross around his neck. In 2013, he reunited with Black Sabbath for the dour, raw &ldquo;13,&rdquo; which reached No. 1 on the U.K. Albums Chart and peaked at No. 86 on the U.S. Billboard 200. In 2019, he had a Top 10 hit when featured on Post Malone's &ldquo;Take What You Want,&rdquo; Osbourne's first song in the Top 10 since 1989.
In 2020, he released the album &ldquo;Ordinary Man,&rdquo; which had as its title song a duet with Elton John. &ldquo;I've been a bad guy, been higher than the blue sky/And the truth is I don't wanna die an ordinary man,&rdquo; he sang. In 2022, he landed his first career back-to-back No. 1 rock radio singles from his album &ldquo;Patient Number 9,&rdquo; which featured collaborations with Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Mike McCready, Chad Smith, Robert Trujillo and Duff McKagan. It earned four Grammy nominations.
At the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2024, Jack Black called him &ldquo;greatest frontman in the history of rock and roll&rdquo; and &ldquo;the Jack Nicholson of rock.&rdquo; Osbourne thanked his fans, his guitarist Randy Rhoads and his longtime wife, Sharon.
John Michael Osbourne was raised in the gritty city of Birmingham, England. Kids in school nicknamed him Ozzy, short for his surname. As a boy, he loved the Four Seasons, Chuck Berry and Little Richard. The Beatles made a huge impression.
&ldquo;They came from Liverpool, which was approximately 60 miles north of where I come from,&rdquo; he told Billboard. &ldquo;So all of a sudden it was in my grasp, but I never thought it would be as successful as it became.&rdquo; In the late 1960s, Osbourne had teamed up with Butler, guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward as the Polka Tulk Blues Band. They decided to rename the band Earth, but found to their dismay there was another band with that name. So they changed the name to the American title of the classic Italian horror movie &ldquo;I Tre Volti Della Paura,&rdquo; starring Boris Karloff: Black Sabbath.
Once they found their sludgy, ominous groove, the band was productive, putting out their self-titled debut and &ldquo;Paranoid&rdquo; in 1970, &ldquo;Master of Reality&rdquo; in 1971, &ldquo;Vol. 4&rdquo; in 1972 and &ldquo;Sabbath Bloody Sabbath&rdquo; in 1973.
The music was all about industrial guitar riffs and disorienting changes in time signatures, along with lyrics that spoke of alienation and doom. &ldquo;People think I'm insane because I am frowning all the time,&rdquo; Osbourne sang in one song. &ldquo;All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy/Think I'll lose my mind if I don't find something to pacify.&rdquo; The Guardian newspaper in 2009 said the band &ldquo;introduced working-class anger, stoner sludge grooves and witchy horror-rock to flower power. Black Sabbath confronted the empty platitudes of the 1960s and, along with Altamont and Charles Manson, almost certainly helped kill off the hippy counterculture.&rdquo; After Sabbath, Osbourne had an uncanny knack for calling some of the most creative young guitarists to his side. When he went solo, he hired the brilliant innovator Rhoads, who played on two of Osbourne's finest solo albums, &ldquo;Blizzard of Ozz&rdquo; and &ldquo;Diary of a Madman.&rdquo; Rhoads was killed in a freak plane accident in 1982; Osbourne released the live album &ldquo;Tribute&rdquo; in 1987 in his memory.
Osbourne then signed Jake E. Lee, who lent his talents to the platinum albums &ldquo;Bark at the Moon&rdquo; and &ldquo;The Ultimate Sin.&rdquo; Hotshot Zakk Wylde joined Osbourne's band for &ldquo;No Rest for the Wicked&rdquo; and the multiplatinum &ldquo;No More Tears.&rdquo; &ldquo;They come along, they sprout wings, they blossom, and they fly off,&rdquo; Osbourne said of his players in 1995 to The Associated Press. &ldquo;But I have to move on. To get a new player now and again boosts me on.&rdquo; Whomever he was playing with, Osbourne wasn't likely to back down from controversy. He had the last laugh when the TV evangelist the Rev. Jimmy Swaggart in 1986 lambasted various rock groups and rock magazines as &ldquo;the new pornography,&rdquo; prompting some retailers to pull Osbourne's album.
When Swaggart later was caught with a sex worker in 1988, Osbourne put out the song &ldquo;Miracle Man&rdquo; about his foe: &ldquo;Miracle man got busted/miracle man got busted,&rdquo; he sang. &ldquo;Today I saw a Miracle Man, on TV cryin'/Such a hypocritical man, born again, dying.&rdquo; Much later, a whole new Osbourne would be revealed when &ldquo;The Osbournes,&rdquo; which ran on MTV from 2002-2005, showed this one-time self-proclaimed madman drinking Diet Cokes as he struggled to find the History Channel on his new satellite television or warning his kids not to smoke or drink before they embarked on a night on the town.
Later, he and his son Jack toured America on the travel show &ldquo;Ozzy &amp; Jack's World Detour,&rdquo; where the pair visited such places as Mount Rushmore and the Space Center Houston. Kevin Feige, chief of Marvel Studios, has confirmed that the company has decided to recast the actors following the events in the &ldquo;Avengers: Secret Wars", slated to release in December 2027.
Many actors from the previous "X-Men" films, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Kelsey Grammer, are, however, reprising their roles in "Avengers: Doomsday". It will release in 2026.
"We&rsquo;re utilizing that not just to round out the stories we&rsquo;ve been telling post-&lsquo;Endgame (2019),&rsquo; just as importantly &mdash; and you can look at the &lsquo;Secret Wars&rsquo; comics for where that takes you &mdash; it very, very much sets us up for the future. &lsquo;Endgame,&rsquo; literally, was about endings. &lsquo;Secret Wars&rsquo; is about beginnings," he told reporters, according to Variety.
Feige said the MCU&rsquo;s first X-Men movie, to be directed by "Thunderbolts" director Jake Schreier, will be a &ldquo;reset,&rdquo; not a &ldquo;reboot&rdquo; of the MCU.
"Reboot is a scary word. Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline &mdash; we&rsquo;re thinking along those lines. &lsquo;X-Men&rsquo; is where that will happen next," he said.
He gave a reference of Amazon MGM&rsquo;s film producers searching for new actors to essay the role of James Bond and the recently released "Superman", as he spoke of replacement.

Madsen's career spanned more than 300 credits stretching back to the early 1980s, many in low-budget and independent films. He often played low-level thugs, gangsters and shady cops in small roles. Tarantino would use that identity, but make him a main character.
His torture of a captured police officer in Tarantino's 1992 directorial debut &ldquo;Reservoir Dogs&rdquo;, in which Madsen's black-suited bank robber Vic &ldquo;Mr Blonde&rdquo; Vega severs the man's ear while dancing to Stealers Wheel's "Stuck in the Middle with You&rdquo; was an early career-defining moment for both director and actor.
Madsen told the Associated Press in 2012 that he hated having to do the scene, especially after the actor playing the officer, Kirk Baltz, ad-libbed a line where he begged for his life because he had children.

He had previously been arrested twice on suspicion of DUI, most recently in 2019, when he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanour.

&ldquo;I have no illusions about changing anyone's mind, but I do want to make something clear, because it's important to me as a human and that is, you understand that it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man," Kimmel said on Tuesday night. He added that he wasn't trying to blame any specific group "for the actions of what ... was obviously a deeply disturbed individual. That was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make.&rdquo;&nbsp;

A relentless Trump critic in his comedy, Kimmel suggested that many Trump supporters were trying to capitalize on Kirk's death and were &ldquo;desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.&rdquo; Trump-appointed Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr last week said it appeared that Kimmel was trying to &ldquo;directly mislead the American public&rdquo; with his remarks about Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old Utah man charged with Kirk's killing, and his motives. Those motives remain unclear.
Authorities say Robinson grew up in a conservative family, but his mother told investigators his son had turned left politically in the last year.

The sudden suspension by ABC, which is owned by Disney, came after conservative complaints about comments Kimmel had made in the wake of the shooting of Christian activist Charlie Kirk.
"Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country," said a company statement.
"It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive.
"We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday."
Kimmel's abrupt disappearance from the airwaves, apparently after government pressure on broadcasters who distribute ABC, sparked fury in liberal America, with opponents saying Kimmel had been targeted because he is a frequent critic of President Donald Trump.
Trump had celebrated Kimmel's removal, calling it "Great News for America."
Opponents saw it as the latest step in creeping government control of free speech, which is an article of faith for many Americans as well as a right enshrined in the country's constitution.
Some on the political right were also uneasy, including people who regularly count themselves as Trump allies, like Ted Cruz, the conservative senator from Texas, and firebrand broadcaster Tucker Carlson.
Trump has repeatedly complained about negative media coverage of him, and last week said he thought it was "illegal."

The Kimmel episode unfolded a week after Kirk, a close Trump ally, was shot dead on a Utah university campus, setting off a bitter battle over responsibility in deeply polarized America, with conservatives -- including Trump -- blaming "the radical left."
Authorities have charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson and have not indicated they are looking for anyone else.
In his show-opening monologue last Monday, Kimmel said "the MAGA gang" was "desperately trying to characterize this kid... as anything other than one of them."
He then showed footage of Trump pivoting from a question about how he had been affected by Kirk's death to boasting about the new ballroom he is building at the White House, prompting laughter from the studio audience.
"This is not how an adult grieves the murder of somebody called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish," Kimmel said.
Two days later, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr threatened the licenses of ABC affiliates that broadcast Kimmel's show.
"I think it's past time these (affiliates) themselves push back... and say, 'Listen, we're not going to run Kimmel anymore until you straighten this out, because we're running the possibility of license revocation from the FCC,'" he told right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson.
Nexstar -- one of the country's biggest owners of ABC affiliate stations, which is in the middle of a multi-billion-dollar merger requiring FCC approval -- then announced it would be removing the show from its stations.
Sinclair, another media group that also yanked the show, said Monday it would not return it to the airwaves, despite Disney's announcement.
"Sinclair will be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming," the company said on social media, using an industry term for removing a show.
"Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show&rsquo;s potential return."

Before Disney's about-face was announced on Monday, a constellation of Hollywood stars signed an open letter calling the decision to pull the show "a dark moment for freedom of speech in our nation (that is) unconstitutional and un-American."
"The government is threatening private companies and individuals that the President disagrees with. We can't let this threat to our freedom of speech go unanswered," said the letter by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
Signatories to the letter included Marvel star Pedro Pascal, Tom Hanks, Jennifer Aniston, Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro.
After Monday's announcement the ACLU welcomed the news, saying: "ABC made the right call."

ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel&rsquo;s late-night show indefinitely after his remarks on Charlie Kirk&rsquo;s killing drew backlash from affiliates and conservatives, with President Trump praising the move.

ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show indefinitely beginning Wednesday after comments that he made about Charlie Kirk's killing led a group of ABC-affiliated stations to say it would not air the show.
Kimmel, the veteran late-night comic, made several comments about the reaction to Kirk's assassination on &ldquo;Jimmy Kimmel Live!&rdquo; Monday and Tuesday nights, including that &ldquo;many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalise on the murder of Charlie Kirk.&rdquo; ABC, which has aired Kimmel's late-night show since 2003, moved swiftly after Nexstar Communications Group said it would pull the show starting Wednesday. Kimmel's comments about Kirk's death &ldquo;are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse,&rdquo; said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar's broadcasting division. Nexstar operates 23 ABC affiliates.
There was no immediate comment from Kimmel, whose contract is up in May 2026. ABC's statement did not cite a reason for why his show was preempted.
President Donald Trump celebrated ABC's move on the social media site Truth Social, writing: &ldquo;Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.&rdquo; He also targeted two other late-night hosts, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, and said they should be cancelled too, calling them &ldquo;two total losers.&rdquo; In July, after CBS cancelled &ldquo;The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,&rdquo; Trump wrote on his social media platform: &ldquo;I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!&rdquo; Like Colbert, Kimmel has been consistently been critical of Trump and many of his policies.
In his monologue on Monday, Kimmel said that &ldquo;we hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.&rdquo; Authorities say Tyler Robinson, 22, who is charged with killing Kirk, grew up in a conservative household in southern Utah but was enmeshed in &ldquo;leftist ideology.&rdquo; His parents told investigators he had turned politically left and pro-LGBTQ rights in the last year.
Utah records show he was registered as a voter, but not affiliated with either political party. His voter status is inactive, meaning he did not vote in two regular general elections. He told his transgender partner that he targeted Kirk because he &ldquo;had enough of his hatred.&rdquo; An audience was lined up outside the theater where &ldquo;Jimmy Kimmel Live!&rdquo; tapes when they were told Wednesday's show was cancelled.
&ldquo;We were just about to walk in &mdash; interestingly enough, they waited to pull the plug on this right as the studio audience was about to walk in,&rdquo; Tommy Williams, a would-be audience member from Jacksonville, Florida, told The Associated Press outside the theater. &ldquo;They didn't tell us what had happened. They just said that the show was cancelled.&rdquo; Williams said he was worried someone had been injured &mdash; until he saw that ABC had announced nearly at the same time online that the preemption was indefinite. Williams hadn't been aware of Kimmel's comments on Kirk, but sought them out after the announcement.
&ldquo;They didn't really seem to justify the means. It seemed to be a bit extreme. And it wasn't like insulting to, it really had nothing to do with Charlie Kirk at all. He didn't even mention anything ill about Charlie Kirk &mdash; it was about the shooter,&rdquo; Williams said.
Kimmel said that Trump's response to Kirk's death &ldquo;is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish, OK?&rdquo; He also said that FBI chief Kash Patel has handled the investigation into the killing &ldquo;like a kid who didn't read the book, BSing his way through an oral report.&rdquo; He returned to the topic on Tuesday night, mocking Vice President JD Vance's performance as guest host for Kirk's podcast.
He said Trump was &ldquo;fanning the flames&rdquo; by attacking people on the left. &ldquo;Which is it, are they a bunch of sissy pickleball players because they're too scared to be hit by tennis balls, or a well-organized deadly team of commandos, because they can't be both of those things.&rdquo; FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, a Trump appointee, called Kimmel's comments on Kirk some of the &ldquo;sickest conduct possible&rdquo; in an interview Wednesday morning with conservative podcaster Benny Johnson.
&ldquo;There are calls for Kimmel to be fired. I think you could certainly see a path forward for suspension over this,&rdquo; Carr said.
Carr said it appeared to be an &ldquo;intentional effort&rdquo; to mislead the public that Charlie Kirk's assassin was a right-wing Trump supporter.
The conservative group interest group Center for American Rights cited Carr's comments in lodging a complaint Wednesday against ABC in addition to a prior complaint from early September accusing ABC of political bias. They wrote in the complaint that Kimmel showed a &ldquo;reckless indifference or willful defiance of facts&rdquo; and asked the commission to take ABC off air, if ABC did not take Kimmel off air first.
FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez criticised the administration for &ldquo;using the weight of government power to suppress lawful expression&rdquo; in a post on X.
The move comes as the president, his administration and political party have stepped up their effort to police speech about Kirk's death. Vance earlier this week urged Americans to turn in fellow citizens who mocked the assassination. It is also the latest effort by the administration to use its power to lean on the media. Carr has launched investigations of outlets that have angered Trump and the president has sued numerous media organisations for negative coverage.
CBS said this past summer that it was cancelling Colbert's show at the end of this season for financial reasons, although some critics have wondered if his stance on Trump played a role. Soon after the cancellation, the FCC approved CBS parent company Paramount's long-pending deal with Skydance. ABC parent company Disney is currently awaiting regulatory approval for ESPN's acquisition of the NFL Network.

Netflix&rsquo;s &ldquo;Adolescence&rdquo; wins 8 Emmys including best limited series, &ldquo;The Pitt&rdquo; takes best drama, and Seth Rogen&rsquo;s &ldquo;The Studio&rdquo; sets a comedy record at the 2025 Emmy Awards.

Searing teen murder saga "Adolescence" was the big winner at Sunday's Emmy Awards, claiming eight prizes including best limited series, while "The Pitt" prevailed in a tight race for best drama at television's equivalent of the Oscars.
Seth Rogen's Hollywood satire "The Studio" dominated the comedy categories, earning best series honors and an overall total of 13 Emmys -- a new record for comedies.
"Adolescence" was arguably 2025's most talked-about TV hit. The British series for Netflix is the grim cautionary tale of a fictional 13-year-old schoolboy arrested on suspicion of murdering a female classmate with a knife.
Its examination of toxic masculinity among young boys, and the horrific messages they are exposed to via smartphones and social media, prompted debate around the world.
"We never expected our little program to have such a big impact," said co-creator Stephen Graham, who plays the teen suspect's father.
The series earned a whopping 140 million views in its first three months on Netflix. Each of its four episodes are shot in a single take.
"Adolescence" won a total of eight Emmys including best limited series -- awarded to shows that end after one season -- as well as prizes for writing, directing, lead actor, supporting actress and supporting actor.
The latter went to 15-year-old Owen Cooper, who became the youngest ever male actor to win an Emmy.
"Honestly, when I started these drama classes a couple years back, I didn't expect to be even in the United States, never mind here," he said.
 - 'The Pitt' triumphs -
"The Pitt" won best drama series -- the night's final prize, and arguably its most surprising moment.
It is a medical drama reminiscent of "ER," with the twist that all 15 episodes are set consecutively during the same unbearably stressful shift at an inner-city Pittsburgh hospital.
Tackling everything from abortion rights to mass shootings, "The Pitt" received little fanfare on its initial release but became a word-of-mouth sensation.
"ER" veteran Noah Wyle won best drama actor for his performance as the emergency room's haunted leader.
"Anybody who is going on shift tonight or coming off shift tonight, thank you for being in that job -- this is for you," he said.
Katherine LaNasa also won best supporting actress.
Pundits had considered the race too close to call, with sci-fi office thriller "Severance" considered difficult to beat.
A psychological drama set largely in the near-future offices of a shadowy corporation, it had the most nominations of any show this year with 27.
The premise: the "innie" employees of Lumon Industries quite literally leave their outside lives, memories and personalities at the door, thanks to a dystopian new mind-splitting technology.
Its star Britt Lower won best actress and Tramell Tillman won for best supporting actor.
 - 'I am paying' -
"The Studio" -- both a love letter to the industry, and a searing send-up of its many hypocrisies, insecurities and moral failings -- was named best comedy series.
Rogen, its co-creator, won best actor for his role as a floundering movie executive. The show also claimed writing and directing prizes Sunday.
It had earned nine statuettes last weekend at a separate ceremony for the more technical Emmy categories.
The best comedy actress Emmy again went to Jean Smart -- her fourth for "Hacks." Hannah Einbinder finally won best supporting actress as the long-suffering assistant to Smart's late-night comedian.
Einbinder used her speech to describe the agency behind most of President Donald Trump's recent immigration raids with an expletive -- muted by broadcasting network CBS -- before adding "Free Palestine."
Television's equivalent of the Oscars had promised to steer clear of politics.
In one of the night's loudest moments, "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" won finally won best variety talk series. A staple of late-night US television, the show will end in 2026.
CBS has denied the cancellation is related to parent company Paramount's $16 million settlement with Trump. Colbert -- a regular critic of the US president -- had dubbed the payment "a big fat bribe."
Emmys host Nate Bargatze spent much of the evening focused on his novel initiative to keep winners' speeches short.
The comedian pledged to donate $100,000 of his own money to the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of America.
The catch? He deducted $1,000 for every second that a winner's acceptance speech exceeds the allotted 45 seconds -- and add money back on for speeches that run short.
"Don't go crazy, because I am paying for this," quipped Bargatze.
A money counter ran on-screen for much of the gala, but was quietly removed as the evening wore on. The show ended with Bargatze and others pledging large donations that more than covered any deductions.
