75th Emmy Awards: Christina Applegate tears up after receiving a standing ovation

The 75th Annual Emmy Awards witnessed some emotional moments when Christina Applegate took the stage. She received a heartwarming standing ovation from the audience as she arrived at the stage to present the first award. The actor who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, walked onto the Emmys stage with the help of a cane and holding onto host Anthony Anderson. A visibly emotional Christina broken into tears and paused to collect herself before hugging Anthony and making a joke about the standing ovation. “You’re totally shaming me by standing up!” the actress said and added, “We don’t have to applaud every time I do something.” Referring to the host Anthony Anderson, the actor said humorously, “I actually don’t need him here, he’s just really cute.”

Earlier in 2023, Christina Applegate had hinted at retiring after concluding her Netflix series. The actor revealed that her condition made it hard for her to act. “We don’t know what my future as an actress is going to be,” she told Variety. She shared her battle with ‘multiple sclerosis’ and was often spotted with a cane on the red carpets. Since then, she has been raising awareness about the condition, setting an example herself.

She is known for her role in ‘Dead to me’ which also earned her a nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series at the Emmys. Even though she lost to Quinta Brunson, the nomination, standing ovation at the Awards night marks a milestone in the actor’s journey. She started her career with ‘Married…With Children’. She then moved on to the big screen only to make a big comeback with ‘Dead to Me’ on Netflix. Talking about her future plans, the actor had shared that she would like to take up voiceover roles and explore the possibility of producing and developing projects.
