With no major new releases this weekend, several Bollywood classics are returning to theatres on August 30.

Following the successful re-release of Laila Majnu (2018) with Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwary, audiences can look forward to screenings of Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), R Madhavan and Dia Mirza’s Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (2001), the critically acclaimed folk horror Tumbbad (2018), and the Kannada film Kariya (2003), featuring the imprisoned actor Darshan.

Gangs of Wasseypur, originally a single film running 321 minutes, was released in two parts in 2012. Both parts received widespread critical acclaim and were commercial successes, with a combined budget of Rs 38 crore and earnings of Rs 33.90 crore and Rs 31.57 crore, respectively, as reported by Sacnilk.

Anurag shared the news on his Instagram handle and wrote, ‘In three days the Gang will be back again, GOW back in cinemas (sic).’

The post also revealed that movie tickets would be priced at Rs 149.

Following the announcement, enthusiastic fans quickly filled the comments section with positive responses.

Tumbbad, which premiered in October 2018, was praised by critics and made on a budget of Rs 5 crore. Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, though initially receiving mixed reviews, has since gained a cult following.

On August 29, Nagarjuna’s film Shiva (1989) will re-release in theaters to celebrate his 65th birthday. Similarly, Pawan Kalyan’s Gabbar Singh (2012) will re-release for his 56th birthday. Nagarjuna’s Mass (2004) re-released on August 28. Previous re-releases such as Indra starring Chiranjeevi and Ghilli (2004) starring Thalapathy Vijay drew packed houses. In Kerala, Malayalam classics Devadoothan (2000) and Manichithrathazhu (1993) are also being re-screened.

Laila Majnu (2018), which originally grossed Rs 3.20 crore in India, earned nearly double its original run with Rs 6.15 crore upon its re-release, according to Sacnilk.
