‘Shamshera’ failure: Actor Ranbir Kapoor made his comeback to the big screen after a gap of four years with ‘Shamshera’, which tanked at the box office. Many felt that the film flopped as it faced boycott calls. In a recent press conference, Ranbir opened up about the failure of his film for the first time and the ongoing cancel culture.
He attended the media interaction in Delhi along with wife Alia Bhatt and director Ayan Mukerji to promote his forthcoming film ‘Brahmastra’ on Wednesday. At the event, Ranbir was questioned about the general air of negativity about Bollywood and if he felt Hindi films were being targeted unfairly. To this, the actor replied that he didn’t feel any negativity about his film ‘Shamshera’ and said it all boils down to content. ‘If the film didn't run at the box office, it's only because the audience didn't like the film. Eventually, it's about the content.
‘If you make a good film, enertain people, of course they will go to the cinema and watch your films. They want to feel that different emotion, connect with characters and get entertained. So, if a film doesn't work, it is not for any other reason but because the content is not good. That's what I feel is the true answer,’ Ranbir said.
Shamshera’ is one of the biggest failures of Ranbir’s career. Directed by Karan Malhotra, the film also starred Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor,
His next ‘Brahmastra’ will release on Friday, September 9. The Ayan Mukerji-directorial is reportedly one of the biggest Indian films ever made, made on a lavish budget of over ₹400 crore.
