'Padmaavat' to make a grand return to cinemas on its 7th anniversary

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's epic film "Padmaavat" (2018) is set to make its return to theatres on its seventh anniversary, the makers announced on Wednesday.

The movie, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles, will be re-released for audiences to experience the grand tale once again on the big screen.

Viacom 18 Studios shared the news on Instagram: "Witness the epic tale on the big screen again. #Padmaavat in cinemas on 24th January."

"Padmaavat" is a 13th-century saga about Queen Padmavati (Padukone), known for her beauty and wisdom, and her husband, Maharawal Ratan Singh (Kapoor) of Mewar. The film’s plot unfolds with Sultan Alauddin Khilji’s obsessive pursuit of Padmavati, leading to an invasion of Chittor, where the queen takes extreme measures to protect her kingdom.

Based on the epic poem "Padmavat" by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi, the film sparked significant controversy upon its original release, particularly due to protests from Rajput groups over its portrayal of Queen Padmavati.

"Padmaavat" joins the list of older films being re-released in theatres. Other titles like "Laila Majnu", "Rockstar", "Gangs of Wasseypur", "Karan Arjun", "Tumbbad", and "Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai" have also made their way back to the big screen in recent months.
