Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana come together for Meghna Gulzar's next: Report

Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana, two of the finest actors Bollywood currently has, will be sharing screen space for the first time in a Meghna Gulzar film. According to a Pinkvilla report, the film will be based on the 2019 Hyderabad rape and murder case. Meghna has a bountiful experience directing projects based on real-life incidents. She is known for films like 'Talwar' (2015), 'Raazi' (2018), 'Chhapaak' (2020), and 'Sam Bahadur' (2023).

Meghna in advance discussion with Kareena-Ayushmann

Meghna is currently in advanced discussion with Ayushmann Khurrana and Kareena Kapoor for the upcoming film, the report added. “It’s a hard-hitting film that warrants the presence of actors with the calibre of Ayushmann Khurrana and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The duo read the script and were shocked by the details of the case. After Talvar, this is another film that could shock the nation and stir a conversation about the case,” the report quoted a source as saying.

While Kareena and Ayushmann have agreed in principle to do the film, the paperwork will be finalised in a fortnight, with an official announcement anticipated soon, the report further mentioned. “Meghna is looking to take the film on floors by the end of 2024. It will arrive in the cinema halls in 2025,” the source informed, adding further that Meghna and the team plan to present the case on the spectacle with utmost sensitivity.

About the event

In November 2019, the gang rape and murder of a 26-year-old veterinary doctor in Shamshabad, near Hyderabad, sparked a massive outrage across the country. Four suspects were arrested and, according to the Cyberabad Metropolitan Police, confessed to having raped and killed the doctor. They were later shot dead by the Hyderabad police while being taken for the reconstruction of the crime scene. Later, the Supreme Court concluded that the encounter was staged.
