Akshay Kumar to play Major General Ian Cardozo, announces new film 'Gorkha'

Akshay Kumar is clearly on a roll! Basking in the success of his last film, 'Bell Bottom', he has announced yet another interesting project, that has piqued the interet of fans

In a post on Instagram, Akshay shared that he will be playing Major General Ian Cardozo in an upcoming film 'Gorkha'

In his post, the Bollywood star said, sometimes you come across stories so inspiring that you just want to make them. Gorkha is based on the life of legendary war hero, Major General Ian Cardozo and he is honoured to essay the role of the icon.

Major General Ian Cardozo is a former Indian Army officer. He was the first war-disabled officer of the Army to command a battalion and a brigade.

During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, Cardozo stepped on a land mine, and his leg was critically injured. Due to non-availability of morphine and absence of medics, his leg could not be amputated surgically. He subsequently used his khukri to amputate his own leg.

He was popularly named Cartoos sahib by his Gorkha regiment as they found it difficult to pronounce his first name. Cardozo has been conferred the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Sena Medal, for gallantry.

Major General Ian Cardozo is also a marathon runner, and regularly takes part in the Mumbai marathon on his prosthetic limb. He has authored several books on military history of India.

'Gorkha' will be directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan and will be produced by Aanand L Rai & Himanshu Sharma.
