Affidavit says Nayanthara-Vignesh Shivan registered marriage 6 years ago, surrogate is a relative: Report

Actor Nayanthara and her husband-filmmaker Vignesh Shivan have been embroiled in a controversy ever since they announced the birth of their twin sons on social media. Many people raised questions if the surrogacy laws applicable in the country were followed by the couple. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian is conducting an inquiry into the matter.

Now, a new report has surfaced which claimed that in an affidavit submitted by Nayathara and Vignesh, they have mentioned that the surrogate through which the twins were born is a relative, which is in accordance with the law.

For the unversed, commercial surrogacy is banned in India, and the surrogate should be at least married once and should have her own child. A couple is deemed 'eligible' for surrogacy if they have been married for five years, the wife is aged between 25-50 years and the husband is between 26-55 years.

According to India TV News report, Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivam submitted an affidavit to the Tamil Nadu health department in which they revealed that the surrogate is a relative of the actor, based out of Dubai and handles her business in the country. It is also reported that Nayanthara and Vignesh registered their marriage six years ago.

Nayanthara and Vignesh tied the knot in June this year, and announced the birth of their twins on October 9.

On the work front, Nayanthara will soon feature in ‘Jawan’, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan.
