A fatwa has been issued against actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay by a Sunni Muslim body, accusing him of anti-Muslim sentiments and violating Ramadan sanctity.

A fatwa has been issued against Tamil Nadu actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay by a Sunni Muslim body in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, after allegations of anti-Muslim sentiments.
Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilly, the National President of the All India Muslim Jamaat and Chief Mufti of Chashme Darul Ifta, issued the fatwa, condemning Vijay for his alleged negative portrayal of Muslims. The fatwa accuses the actor-politician of using Muslim sentiments to further his political career, citing his past actions and the portrayal of Muslims in his film The Beast as evidence.
&ldquo;Vijay Thalapathy is using Muslim sentiments to make his way into politics from the film world when his history is full of anti-Muslim sentiment,&rdquo; Maulana Razvi said. He pointed out that the film The Beast unfairly linked Muslims to terrorism, portraying them as &ldquo;monsters&rdquo; and &ldquo;devils.&rdquo;
The fatwa also criticized Vijay for inviting &ldquo;alcoholics and gamblers&rdquo; to an Iftar event, calling it a violation of Islamic principles. Maulana Razvi described these actions as illegal and sinful, urging Muslims in Tamil Nadu to avoid involving Vijay in any religious activities. "These people were neither fasting nor following Islamic practices," he added, noting that a police complaint had been filed by Sunni Muslims in Tamil Nadu over the incident.
In his statement, Maulana Razvi urged the Muslim community to &ldquo;distance themselves from Vijay Thalapathy, not attend his programmes, and not invite him to their religious programmes.&rdquo;

The actor who was emotional as he paid last respects to Vijayakanth, was left in shock after the incident. The Vijay starrer is tentatively titled '<a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/sanjay-dutt-comes-onboard-thalapathy-67-says-he-gave-his-nod-after-hearing-the-one-line-story-1675182650992">Thalapathy 67</a>'. The original title will be unveiled on February 3.
'Thalapathy 67' marks the second collaboration between Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj after their 2021 blockbuster 'Master'. Trisha Krishnan will be seen as the female lead of the film. The movie also stars Sanjay Dutt, Mathew Thomas, Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Arjun Sarja, Mansoor Ali Khan, Priya Anand and Sandy.

Thalapathy Vijay's film 'Varisu' has landed in legal trouble as the Animal Welfare Board of India has issued a show cause notice to its producers Venkateswara Creations for using five elephants in the film without seeking permission from officials. They have directed the makers to submit a detailed explanation seeking reasons behind the violations of the law within seven days failing which AWBI will &lsquo;take any or all such action as it may deem to consider proper and necessary for the welfare of the animals.
The statement of the board reads, 'The Board has received a complaint regarding illegal shooting of animals by M/s Venkateswara Creations using Elephants-5 without the pre-shoot permission from the Animal Welfare Board of India in Tamil Film &ldquo;Varisu&rdquo;, which is the violation of Performing Animals (Registration) Rules, 2001 (as amended in 2002). The Board has not received the Pre-shoot application from you for Tamil Film &ldquo;Varisu&rdquo; till date'
The makers of the film are yet to respond to this legal notice.
Directed by Vamsi Paidipally, 'Varisu' is scheduled for the 2023 Pongal release. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna.

Thalapathy Vijay has been fined ₹1 lakh by the Madras High Court for seeking exemption of tax on his imported Rolls-Royce Ghost worth ₹7.95 crore.
Justice SM Subramaniam dismissed Vijay's petition and asked him to deposit the money to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister&rsquo;s Covid-19 Relief Fund within two weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of the order.
The judge also said that the actor has been portrayed as a champion of social justice in films against corruption but failed to pay entry tax.
He further added that payment of tax is the duty of every citizen and is a mandatory contribution rather than a donation.
