Vivo X Fold 5 Unboxing & First Impressions: Slimmer & Sharper

The Vivo X Fold 5 is here with an ultra-slim design, stunning displays, and Zeiss-powered triple camera set up. At ₹1,49,999, it’s aiming to be the most refined foldable of 2025—and it’s off to a strong start.

Foldables might no longer be a novelty, but let’s be real—most of them still feel like work-in-progress. Not this one. The Vivo X Fold 5 doesn’t just look the part—it feels like a foldable that finally gets it. It’s slick, confident, and surprisingly practical.

Priced at ₹1,49,999 for the 16GB + 512GB variant, the X Fold 5 is clearly aimed at the premium crowd. It’s available in just one colour—Titanium Grey—but don’t let that name fool you. This thing looks like stunning, something straight out of a sci-fi flick.

      A premium unboxing experience

The box sets the tone before you even see the phone. Vivo’s gone for a bold, square black box with a raised circular design right at the centre—mirroring that massive rear camera module. There's some tasteful Zeiss branding, too, giving you a little heads-up that this phone’s camera game isn’t messing around.

Inside, you get the phone itself, an 80W fast charger, USB-A to USB-C cable, SIM ejector tool, documentation, and a surprisingly nice snap-on case with a faux-leather finish. No extra fluff, but nothing’s missing either. It's a clean, premium unboxing that doesn't overdo it—but still makes you feel like you just bought something special.

Design: Foldable, but make it finesse

Here’s where Vivo really flexes. Foldables are usually chonky, but the X Fold 5 is rewriting the rules. When folded, it’s 9.2mm thick. Unfold it, and you're holding a slab that’s just 4.3mm thin—skinnier than most regular phones. And weighing just 217g, it’s also one of the lightest foldables around.

That Titanium Grey back panel catches the light in all the right ways, and the subtle gold ring around the camera module adds a touch of class. The frame is crafted from Armor Aluminium, there’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, and Vivo even added Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the cover display.

      Display: Ultra-bright, ultra-smooth

When it comes to screens, Vivo isn’t playing around. The main display is an 8.03-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision support. It hits an insane 4500 nits of local peak brightness. You also get a 6.53-inch cover display with 120Hz refresh and 5500 nits brightness, so even outdoors in blinding sunlight, this phone’s readable. Both panels are TÜV Rheinland-certified for eye comfort and come with Zeiss Master Colour calibration out of the box.

The bezels are practically invisible, and the resolution, tack sharp. This is flagship display tech with foldable flair—and we’re here for it.

      Performance: Flagship muscle

Under the hood, the Vivo X Fold 5 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It’s still a powerhouse, but worth noting—it’s the same chip Vivo used in last year’s X Fold 3 Pro. That said, paired with 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of superfast UFS 4.1 storage, there’s no shortage of speed. Whether it’s multitasking, editing videos, or running multiple apps on split-screen, this phone handles it all like a boss.

Vivo’s Funtouch OS 15, layered on top of Android 15, also feels more refined than ever. It’s smoother, better optimised, and a lot less clunky than earlier versions. With foldable-friendly tweaks built in, this software finally feels like it belongs on a premium device.

      Cameras: Zeiss-powered triple threat

This is where Vivo goes full beast mode. The X Fold 5 packs three 50MP sensors on the back—main, ultrawide, and 3X periscope telephoto. All three come with OIS, and thanks to Zeiss optics, image quality is sharp, detailed, and punchy. Whether you're zooming in or going wide, the colours pop and the detail holds up.

For selfies, you get 20MP shooters on both the inner and outer screens, so whether you’re snapping pics open or closed, you're covered.

Bottom line? The X Fold 5’s camera setup isn’t just “good for a foldable”—it’s solid across the board.

Battery + durability: All-day champ with serious protection

Battery life comes from a hefty 6,000mAh setup, and it charges fast—80W wired and 40W wireless.

Vivo’s not holding back when it comes to durability. The X Fold 5 is IPX8, IPX9, IPX9+ rated for water and also comes with IP5X-like rating for dust, so it can take on splashes, rain, and dust without flinching.

      Early verdict

Most foldables still come with asterisks—great screens but bulky, strong cameras but average battery, flagship design but clunky software. The Vivo X Fold 5 feels like it’s checked off all the boxes. It's lightweight, powerful, and camera-savvy.

It’s definitely not cheap, but if you're in the market for a premium foldable that feels future-ready, this might be a solid and promising option.
