Report: Apple plans to design and use in-house displays for mobile devices starting in 2024

Apple plans to design and use its own custom displays for mobile devices such as iPhones and Apple Watches starting in 2024. According to a Bloomberg report, the move is a part of the company's larger effort to decrease its reliance on third-party component suppliers and increase its use of in-house components.

The transition to using these new displays will begin with the high-end Apple Watch Ultra, which may adopt microLED display technology. Apple plans to eventually expand the use of these custom displays to other devices, including future iPhones.

It is worth noting that while the displays will still be manufactured by outside suppliers, they will be designed by Apple, similar to their approach with chips.

Additionally, this initiative is in line with the company's trend of in-house development, as it has already begun using in-house components for chips and reports suggest that the company is working on in-house modems and wireless components.
