WhatsApp working on new privacy feature to lock chats in linked devices, disable link preview and more

WhatsApp is expanding its privacy measures by introducing chat lock features in linked devices. We can expect the initial roll out phase to happen for WhatsApp Beta users. Here's all you need to know about this latest update from WhatsApp.

WhatsApp working on new privacy feature to lock chats in linked devices, disable link preview and more

WhatsApp is rolling out a significant privacy update. This improvement allows for enhanced security across devices. Particularly, it introduces a chat lock feature for linked devices. It comes as a part of Whatsapp’s latest focus on improving privacy measures for its users.

In the past couple of months, the application has been working on features like full encryption label, display screenshot restrictions, amongst others. Introducing chat lock feature in linked devices is their latest addition.

Enhancing Privacy Across Devices with Chat Lock

The upcoming update focuses on user privacy and is yet to roll out as a part of Whatsapp beta for Android 2.24.8.4. WhatsApp will soon let users secure their chats on all devices connected to their account.

This is done through a chat lock feature. A secret code is required to access locked chats. This code ensures that chats remain private and secure, even on devices other than the primary one.

Initially, the chat lock was only for the main device. Now, it extends to any device linked to the user's WhatsApp account.

WaBetaInfo reports that this move aims to provide comprehensive privacy. Users can feel safer knowing their conversations are protected everywhere.

The secret code for WhatsApp chats is central to this privacy feature. It prevents unauthorized access to sensitive conversations. Whether on a phone, tablet, or PC, the chats stay locked. Only the user, with their code, can unlock and read them.

In other news, WhatsApp is also making moves in financial services. The platform is introducing international payments. This will be made possible through UPI integration.

Users in India will soon be able to send money abroad directly through WhatsApp. This feature, however, is limited to countries where international UPI services are available.

Furthermore, WhatsApp plans to disable link previews on iOS. This aims to protect users' IP addresses from third-party websites. By turning off automatic link previews, WhatsApp enhances user privacy. It keeps the IP address hidden when sharing links. This addition is part of WhatsApp's efforts to make messaging safer and more private.

These updates and features outline WhatsApp's commitment to user privacy and security. The chat lock for linked devices enhances safety across all user devices. Meanwhile, UPI integration for international payments adds a new layer of utility to the app. And with the option to disable link previews, WhatsApp continues to prioritize the privacy of its users. Together, these updates contribute to a more secure and convenient WhatsApp experience.
