Vivo and Transsion to launch world's first rollable phone in 2024: Report

Vivo and Transsion gear up to introduce rollable phones by 2024, marking a significant shift in smartphone innovation. While Samsung remains dominant in the foldable niche, Chinese brands are pioneering the rollable segment.

Vivo and Transsion to launch world's first rollable phone in 2024: Report

Vivo and Transsion have set their sights on unveiling the world's first rollable phone by 2024. While there have been various concept devices showcasing rollable phone technology, a product for the masses hasn't been launched yet. The push for this innovation stems from these brands' aspiration to gain a competitive advantage over tech giants like Samsung.

Anticipated Launch of Rollable Phones by the End of 2024

As per sources from CNMO, both Vivo and Transsion are diligently working on crafting smartphones with rollable displays. The rollable phone launch date for these devices is anticipated to be around the close of 2024.

Although this seems a bit distant, it's rather ambitious given the embryonic stage of the rollable smartphone segment and the ongoing consumer adaptation to foldable phones.

Chinese Companies Aim to Beat Samsung to the Market

The motivation behind the Chinese manufacturers' accelerated push towards rollable tech is largely to outpace Samsung in the market. It's perceived as a considerable challenge to eclipse Samsung in the realm of foldable phones.

Despite Samsung hinting at innovations in the rollable display department, its primary concentration seems to be on foldable technology. This presents an opportunity for Chinese brands to take the lead in the rollable phone segment.

Vivo, not a stranger to the foldable market, released the X Fold2 and X Flip earlier. The former is akin to a book-style device, while the latter stands as Vivo's inaugural clamshell-folding phone.

Speculation is rife regarding Vivo rollable phone specs, particularly its display. It might be sourced from CSOT, Samsung Display, or China Star Optoelectronics. A detailed disclosure is eagerly awaited.

Tecno Phantom Ultimate: A Glimpse into the Rollable Future

Tecno, falling under the Transsion umbrella, showcased a rollable display concept smartphone. The Tecno Phantom Ultimate rollable phone possesses a unique attribute: its screen can be expanded laterally with a simple button press. An engaging live wallpaper can be seen flourishing in unison with the roll-out of the display.

Elaborating on the Tecno Phantom Ultimate specs, the device boasts a 6.55-inch display which can magnify to a 7.11-inch screen upon rolling out. This AMOLED screen offers a resolution of 2,296 x 1,596 pixels and a clarity of 388 PPI. An intriguing feature is the additional display on the back, functioning as an Always On display. To achieve this rollable marvel, Tecno employs a single-drive motor system.

Considering this is Tecno's second foray into conceptual smartphones, it's speculated that Transsion's first rollable phone may debut under this brand, despite having other renowned brands like Infinix and itel in its portfolio.
