Samsung One UI 6.0 at SDC23: Check new features, compatible smartphones

Samsung took the stage at the Samsung Developer Conference 2023 (SDC23) to shed light on its One UI 6.0 skin, based on Android 14.

Though the beta version was released in August for select models, this was the company's first official discussion about the software.

New Updates and Functionalities

Even though we've covered significant features of One UI 6 earlier, the brand used the platform to delve deeper into the details.

Key upgrades include a revamped quick panel with more user-friendly options, a visually appealing music widget, and an updated Weather app widget for better future forecast clarity.

Design and Aesthetics

A significant announcement was the introduction of the 'One UI Sans' font, which will be implemented system-wide in devices sporting One UI 6.

This font not only promises a modern appearance but also ensures better readability. Emojis have been redesigned for a more lively feel, differing from the traditional designs.

Additionally, Samsung hinted at increased personalisation options for the lock screen and teased more features arriving in subsequent One UI versions.

Security and Other Announcements

Samsung emphasized its commitment to security by announcing that the Knox Vault feature, initially seen in the Galaxy S21 series, will also be incorporated in upcoming Galaxy A models with One UI 6.

Furthermore, the SDC23 keynote also brought attention to the updates on Samsung’s Tizen OS for TVs, Bixby, SmartThings, and various health-related functionalities.

Anticipating Android 14 and Beyond

Google's Pixel smartphones have already started receiving the stable Android 14 update.

With this, expectations are high for One UI 6 to grace Samsung's flagship devices by the year-end.
