Google pauses December 2021 update for Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro over call drop issues

Google has paused December 2021 update for its Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones, after users complained that they were facing frequent call drops after the update. Google says that they have identified a fix for this problem, and that they will roll out a fix in a software update by late January.

The software update in late January, which will come with a fix for the call drop issue, will also include all the fixes and improvements that were originally planned in December. This will bring features digital car key support in certain regions, Quick Tap to Snap, improvements in Now Playing feature and Recorder.

Google Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro call drop issues

Google says that users who are not experiencing any issues related to call drops can continue using their Pixel 6 series devices as-is. However, users who are facing the issue can revert to the previous Android version by using the Android Flash Tool from flash.android.com. Google recommends that users back up their phone before restoring a previous Android version.

Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro specs

Both phones are powered by the Tensor chipset, Google’s first custom chip in a phone. The Pixel 6 features a 6.4-inch FHD+ 90Hz display, while the Pixel 6 Pro gets a 6.7-inch QHD+ 120Hz screen. Both smartphones feature a 50MP primary camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide shooter. The Pixel 6 features an 8MP front camera. The Pixel 6 Pro also gets a 48MP telephoto lens on the back, along with an 11.1MP front camera. In the US, the Pixel 6 starts at $599 for the 8GB + 128GB variant, while the Pixel 6 Pro starts at $899 for the 12GB + 128GB variant.
