Amazon rolls out Passkey support for easier and safer passwordless sign-In

Amazon unveils Amazon Passkey, a new passwordless sign-in method. Users can set it up to access accounts via face, fingerprint, or PIN. It's available on browsers and rolling out on iOS, ensuring better security against unauthorized access.

Amazon rolls out Passkey support for easier and safer passwordless sign-In

Amazon is making online shopping more secure and user-friendly with its latest feature, the Amazon Passkey. This innovation moves users away from the conventional password system to a more efficient passwordless sign-in.

How to Use Amazon Passkey

Users can now easily set up their Amazon Passkey in their account settings. This setup allows them to access their Amazon account using the same methods they use to unlock their devices - facial recognition, fingerprint, or a PIN.

Thoughts from Amazon's Leadership

Dave Treadwell, Amazon’s Senior Vice President of Ecommerce, expressed his excitement about this new feature. He emphasized that while passwords might still be in use for some time, the Amazon Passkey is a leap towards a more secure online shopping experience.

Where Can You Use Amazon Passkey?

Currently, Amazon Passkey support on browsers is available for every Amazon user. Additionally, Amazon Passkey support on iOS is being rolled out through the Amazon Shopping app. Android users can expect Amazon Passkey support on mobile shopping apps in the near future.

Security Advantages of Amazon Passkey

The Amazon Passkey security features stand out in several ways. First, unlike traditional passwords, passkeys can't be easily guessed or written down, minimizing the risk of unauthorized access.

When users utilize the Amazon Passkey to sign in, it confirms they have the device and can unlock it. This removes the stress of remembering complex passwords or using obvious choices like names or dates of birth.

Furthermore, signing into sites and apps with passkeys is similar to unlocking devices: users can use a fingerprint, face scan, or PIN. Amazon also mentioned that passkeys offer stronger protection against phishing attacks than regular passwords or one-time text codes.

Wrap Up

With the introduction of Amazon Passkey, Amazon is revolutionizing the online shopping experience. Combining ease of use with heightened security, this Amazon authentication method is set to change the way we think about online security.
