iPadOS 16 release reportedly delayed

According to Bloomberg, Apple has delayed the launch of iPadOS 16. The update is now said to release in October instead of September.

iPadOS 16’s ambitious new Stage Manager feature is reportedly the reason behind this delay. Multiple users who’ve used stage manager in the beta version of iPadOS 16 have complained of it being non-intuitive.

Whether Apple is planning to make last-minute changes to Stage Manager before iPadOS 16’s final release is not yet known.

iPadOS 16 new features

With iPadOS 16, the Weather app has finally been added to the iPad.

The aforementioned Stage Manager window management system, which was first introduced in the new macOS Ventura, is also coming to iPadOS. This shows that iPadOS is putting more emphasis on multitasking. Windows can overlap and be moved into place by dragging and dropping.

With iPadOS 16, any iPad with an M1 chip can connect to an external display with a resolution of up to 6K. This means that up to 8 apps can be shown at the same time.

Apple has also made a new whiteboard app called Freeform. This app is meant to let people work together on a shared canvas. It works with the Apple Pencil and can import many different types of files, like PDFs, images, and web links.

With the new Display Zoom feature, iPads with the M1 chip will also be able to have more pixels per inch.
