Google unveils enhanced accessibility features for inclusive digital experiences

Google unveiled new accessibility products and updates on Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) to promote equal access to digital services and products for individuals with disabilities. Live Captions now offer enhanced accessibility, enabling more users to generate real-time captions on Chrome, Android, and Google Meet. Android tablets are undergoing testing for a "caption box" feature.

The Lookout app, designed to aid the visually impaired, has been improved using AI and DeepMind. Users can now add alt text to images and utilize the Image Q&A feature for image descriptions. Collaborating with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), Google plans to expand its testing and launch the updates globally by the end of the year.

Chrome for Android now detects URL typos and provides relevant suggestions. The Google TalkBack feature has been updated to enhance tab management for individuals with disabilities, including grid formats, reordering, bulk tab actions, and tab groups.

Google Maps prominently displays a wheelchair accessibility icon and is working with business owners, local guides, and the Maps community worldwide. Wear OS 4 will integrate a faster and more reliable text-to-speech feature.
