Google rebrands AI-powered Bard to Gemini, launches new app

Google has announced a major rebranding and enhancement of its AI-powered tool from Bard to Gemini.

Powered by the advanced Gemini Pro 1.0 model, this technology is now available in over 230 countries and boasts proficiency in over 40 languages.

Users can access Gemini through a web interface and a newly introduced dedicated app, making it compatible with text, voice, and multi-modal interactions that include image input and generation.

Gemini Advanced and Expansion Plans

In addition to the standard free-to-use Gemini model, Google revealed Gemini Advanced, empowered by the cutting-edge Gemini Ultra 1.0 model.

Following a complimentary 2-month trial period, users can access Gemini Advanced for ₹1,950, or the equivalent in other currencies, as part of the Google One AI Premium Plan. This package encompasses 2TB of storage and additional Google One Premium benefits.

Additionally, there are plans for Gemini integration with Gmail, Google Docs, and various other services.

Although Gemini Advanced is currently accessible in English in 150+ countries, expansion into other languages is on the horizon.

Integration with Android Devices

The newly launched Gemini app is available for download on Android and iOS and is integrated into the Google app for Android users.

With Gemini taking the place of Google Assistant on Android devices, users can activate the service easily using the familiar "Hey Google" prompt or other preferred methods.

Gemini offers a diverse set of features, including the continuation of voice-controlled functions for setting timers, making calls, and managing smart home devices, alongside additional capabilities such as article summarisation and image captioning.
