Elon Musk's Twitter bans CEO of MyPillow Mike Lindell's new account made to avoid 2021 suspension

Mike Lindell was first banned by Twitter in 2021 - a year before Elon Musk's takeover - for claiming Donald Trump won the 2020 US Presidential election.
Elon Musk's Twitter bans CEO of MyPillow Mike Lindell's new account made to avoid 2021 suspension

Days after Elon Musk bought Twitter, the social media giant banned a high-profile account. CEO of the pillow company MyPillow Mike Lindell was banned from Twitter - for the second time - on May 1.

Twitter said that Lindell's new account was permanently suspended for violating the social media platform's rules on ban evasion.

The ban is grabbing headlines since Twitter's new owner Elon Musk has been critical of the company's censorship rules. Musk claimed to be a "free speech absolutist" who would allow all kinds of content on Twitter as long as it wasn't illegal.

Mike Lindell had first been banned by Twitter in January 2021 over his claims on the US Presidential election. Lindell had repeatedly claimed that Donald Trump had won the 2020 election, insinuating that Joe Biden rigged the election. Twitter had banned Lindell for "repeated violations" of its civic integrity policy.

Donald Trump himself was banned by Twitter following the riots at Capitol Hill in January 2021.
