Dyson has introduced the V16 Piston Animal cordless vacuum cleaner in India for ₹79,900. The company is calling it its most powerful anti-tangle cordless vacuum so far, with a 900W Hyperdymium motor that produces up to 315AW of suction in Boost mode.
It sits at the top of Dyson’s vacuum line-up and brings a new floor-sensing cleaner head, a debris-compressing bin, LED illumination and sealed five-stage HEPA filtration. The V16 also supports the MyDyson app for filter-care alerts and maintenance guidance.
Speaking to Editorji, Tim Hare from Dyson’s team said its development focused on common household complaints, rather than merely chasing a larger suction figure. “We wanted to solve three major frustrations,” he said. “The first was hair. The second was the need to change heads between surfaces. The third was bin capacity and messy emptying.”
Dyson is targeting dust that hides in plain sight
Dust is an obvious concern in Indian homes, even when a floor looks clean at a glance. Dyson says its “How India Cleans” study found that 51.6 per cent of respondents regularly miss spaces beneath beds and furniture, while 47.5 per cent struggle with corners, skirting boards and edges.
That is the backdrop for the V16’s sensing and lighting features. An acoustic piezo sensor monitors dust drawn through the machine, enabling it to react when it encounters very small particles. “A lot of household dust cannot be seen with the naked eye, including pollen, skin cells and microscopic particles,” Hare said. “We have made the machine more intelligent so that it can adapt to this.”
The vacuum can raise suction when it senses superfine dust, while LEDs in the cleaner head are meant to make less visible debris stand out on the floor. The feature is aimed at areas that often get only a quick clean, including under furniture and along room edges.
Filtration forms the second part of the pitch. “You can have the most powerful machine in the world, but if it is ejecting dust back into the room for it to settle again, it is no good,” Hare said.
Dyson claims the fully sealed, five-stage HEPA system captures 99.99 per cent of particles down to 0.1 microns. That claim is based on laboratory testing.
A single cleaner head for floors, rugs and hair
The All Floor Cones Sense cleaner head is designed to eliminate attachment changes between different surfaces. It identifies the type of floor beneath it and alters both suction and brush-bar behaviour automatically.
On marble, granite and tile, the brush bar runs more slowly for quieter, gentler cleaning. Once it is pushed onto a rug or carpet, the machine raises brush-bar speed to disturb dirt trapped deeper in the fibres, while increasing suction.
“The machine detects when it is on a hard floor and reduces the brush-bar speed, making it quieter while adjusting suction for the surface,” Hare said. “When it moves onto a rug, it increases the brush-bar speed to agitate embedded dust and raises suction power.”
The cleaner head uses two conical brush bars rather than one cylindrical roller. Their shape shifts hair from the centre towards the outer edges before it is pulled into the bin. Dyson says it can remove hair as long as 25 inches without it tangling around the brush bars.
The V16 includes a Hair Screw tool 2.0 for pet hair and a crevice tool for narrow, awkward spaces. Its CleanCompaktor bin compresses debris to hold three times more than a similarly sized bin without compression, according to Dyson. The bin’s internal surfaces wipe as it empties, which is meant to reduce residue and hair left behind.
More power, but Dyson says the focus is efficiency
At the centre of the V16 Piston Animal is Dyson’s new Hyperdymium 900W motor. The company says it is 50 per cent more powerful than the motor inside the Gen5 and can generate 315AW of suction.
Hare said the target was not simply to run a more demanding motor and compensate with a larger battery. “It is not simply about delivering the highest possible suction. It is about balancing power and runtime,” he said.
Dynamic Cyclone technology is meant to manage that balance. Dyson says that in Boost mode, five additional cyclones are activated to lift airflow and suction. In Eco mode, energy use is reduced to prioritise battery life. The company rates the vacuum for up to 70 minutes of fade-free runtime in Eco mode on hard flooring, and a swappable battery is available for extended use.
“That gives us longer runtime, but also the highest suction of any Dyson machine, even compared with our corded models,” Hare said.
Dyson says it did not increase battery weight for the V16. “The focus is on sensing,” Hare said. “We did not want to add weight, so we are deploying that power more intelligently.”
More than 1,000 digital design iterations and around 26,000 individual simulations covering robustness, thermals and airflow went into developing the machine, according to the company.
The Dyson V16 Piston Animal is available now on Dyson.in and at Dyson stores across India. It is an expensive proposition, but the V16’s upgrades are aimed at the parts of vacuuming that usually become a hassle long before the battery runs out.
