Apple is set to unveil its latest iPad Pro and iPad Air models in early May, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The expected launch date is May 6.

According to the latest report on the Bloomberg Newsletter Power On, Gurman explains that the upcoming launch follows a delay from the initially anticipated March or April release. The delay was due to software updates and manufacturing challenges with the OLED display technology.

      Launch Details and Expectations

Unlike previous launches, Apple reportedly will not host an event for the new iPads. Official information on the launch will be disseminated via a press release announcement on the Apple Newsroom website. This approach mirrors the recent unveiling of the MacBook Air models equipped with the M3 chip.

      iPad Pro Expected Features

The upcoming iPad Pro models will feature the powerful M3 chip, an OLED display, and a redesigned rear camera bump. Additional enhancements may include MagSafe wireless charging. The 12.9-inch version, specifically the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, will receive its OLED screens from Samsung exclusively. The 11.1-inch model will source its displays from both Samsung and LG.

      iPad Air Expected Features

Apple also plans to introduce two new iPad Air models, including a larger 12.9-inch iPad Air. This marks the first instance of such a size in the iPad Air series. These devices will incorporate the M2 chip and a landscape-oriented front camera, aligning with features in the new iPad Pro versions.

Upcoming Apple Accessories Accompanying the Launch

Accompanying the hardware releases, Apple is expected to launch a new Magic Keyboard and a new Apple Pencil. The keyboard will boast a larger trackpad and a partially aluminum enclosure. These accessories aim to complement the iPad lineup and enhance user interaction.

Expected Price of the New iPad Pro, iPad Air Models

A notable aspect of the upcoming release is the price increase for the new iPad Pro models, attributed to the costlier OLED technology. Although initial speculation suggested a starting price near $2,000 for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, more recent estimates adjust this figure to approximately $1,500. The new 12.9-inch iPad Air, featuring the M2 chip but with a conventional display, will offer a more budget-friendly option compared to the Pro models.

      Future plans

Despite the excitement surrounding the new releases, Gurman notes in his report how the iPad faces challenges in differentiating itself within Apple's product ecosystem. They suggest that improvements in iPadOS could potentially elevate the iPad as a viable alternative to Macs for daily tasks. Additionally, Apple is also reportedly exploring the development of foldable iPads, though this initiative is in its early stages.
